What kind of bar is Saechamjip near Gunja Station?

Saechamjip is a Korean bar on the 2nd floor of the Gunja Station food alley, and it's the first place in Gunja to come with fully private individual rooms. I'd heard there was a private, cozy Korean bar near Gunja Station, so I went to check it out — and it really was a comfortable, quiet spot.

What stood out especially... the food quality was so good it barely felt like a bar, and being able to enjoy a proper meal alongside drinks made it perfect for a casual drink with dinner :)

Inside Saechamjip: atmosphere and private room seating

The interior of Saechamjip has a strong Korean-bar vibe overall, but it feels cozier and calmer than your typical noisy bar. What I loved especially is that Gunja's Saechamjip has private individual rooms, which made comfortable conversation possible!

Saechamjip was great for dates, gatherings with friends, and quiet drinking sessions alike.

Saechamjip menu and what we ordered

Saechamjip's signature dishes include stone-plate bone grill, Jirisan Hanwoo Daechang (Korean beef large intestine) chicken stew, pollack roe mayo giant egg roll, and cream cheese chapssal juak (sweet rice cake). Everything looked so delicious that... choosing was genuinely hard, ugh.

After much deliberation... we picked the Jirisan Hanwoo Daechang chicken stew and octopus-shrimp kimchi pancake!

  • Jirisan Hanwoo Daechang chicken stew ₩29,900 (+udon noodles ₩500) (+rice ₩500)
  • Octopus-shrimp kimchi pancake ₩18,900
  • Terra ₩5,500

Free starters at Saechamjip: nanacone and muksabal, both refillable

Saechamjip's basic side dishes are nanacone and mukbap (acorn jelly salad)! The sweet nanacone was great for light nibbling before the main dishes arrived, and the tangy, clean-tasting mukbap paired perfectly as a drinking snack... (and yes, refills are available).

Instead of plain water, they served nutty hutgae tea (raisin tree water) — such a nice touch! And they even gave us a hangover remedy on top of it...

From the side dishes to the hutgae tea to the hangover remedy, every bit of service at Saechamjip won me over.

Jirisan hanwoo daechang chicken stew, ₩29,900

Saechamjip's Jirisan Hanwoo Daechang chicken stew is ₩29,900, with a spice level you can choose — we went mild :) Piled high with bean sprouts and mung bean sprouts, plus the udon noodles we added, the visual alone was overwhelming.

Even the mild version had a decently spicy broth, combined with boneless chicken thigh meat and Korean beef large intestine.

Just ordering the Jirisan Hanwoo Daechang gopdori-tang with a bowl of rice would be enough for a full meal — the portion was generous and the taste was excellent, and on top of that it worked perfectly as a drinking dish too, which personally won me over. Definitely order the udon noodles and rice add-ons! Because... they're only ₩500 haha.

The Jirisan Hanwoo Daechang chicken stew had a spicy broth with real depth. No gamey smell at all — just a spicy, savory, hearty broth that went great with rice, and it was also a top-notch drinking snack in between. As it kept simmering down, the broth's umami got even richer, and by the end the udon noodles soaked in all that concentrated broth were absolutely delicious...

Octopus and shrimp kimchi pancake, ₩18,900

Saechamjip's octopus-shrimp kimchi pancake is ₩18,900, fried up crispy and generously sized, with octopus and shrimp tucked inside. The crispy, golden-fried texture combined with the springy bite of octopus and shrimp made me think, this is a kimchi pancake specialist — and I devoured it...

If you love kimchi pancake... this octopus-shrimp kimchi pancake comes highly recommended :) The texture and the umami were both out of this world...

Crispy, nutty... salty with the kimchi's umami layered in, it went great with rice and was also a top drinking snack. Every dish we ordered that day was delicious.
