Brunch café in Tangjeong, Asan with a shop-like hall: When You Bite
In short
When You Bite is a brunch café on Maegokhandeul 8-gil in Tangjeong-myeon, Asan, Chungnam. Wanting brunch first thing in the morning, the writer ordered the egg Benedict and the truffle cream gnocchi, and what stuck was the jambon-and-poached-egg layering on thin bread and the gnocchi seared crisp on the outside. Between a hall you can browse like a curated lifestyle shop, a terrace, baby chairs and a diaper-changing space, When You Bite is an easy recommendation for brunch in Tangjeong.

I was craving a proper brunch from the morning, so I looked up good brunch spots around Tangjeong and ended up at When You Bite 🥐 I always love taking my time over brunch, and that day I really wanted the real deal, so off I went :)
Maybe because the chef has a long cooking career, the food was satisfying overall, and the space was clean with all the amenities I needed, so I could eat comfortably. It also had all kinds of little objects to browse like an editor's shop, plus a terrace, so the mood was great too. Good food, good facilities, good atmosphere — if you're looking for brunch in Tangjeong, I'd recommend this place :)

Outside When You Bite: full-height windows and terrace seats

I checked out the exterior first — clean facade with floor-to-ceiling windows, so it stood out even from a distance. There was terrace seating set up out front too. On a nice day, having brunch out on the terrace and taking your time would be lovely ☀️
Inside When You Bite: lifestyle-shop displays and seating

The moment I walked in, it felt less like a typical brunch restaurant and more like a small curated lifestyle shop. All kinds of objects were displayed throughout the dining area — from kitchen pieces like bowls and cups to interior decor — plenty to browse 👀

Seating was generous too. There were tables for two all the way up to larger tables for groups, so it looked good for friends or family visits, and the tables weren't cramped, so I could eat comfortably. The window seats had nice natural light, and on a sunny day the outdoor terrace would be a great option too :)

Plants were placed here and there, which softened the space so it felt relaxed rather than too stiff for enjoying brunch. 🍀
Visiting When You Bite with a baby: baby chairs and diaper-changing space

They had baby chairs ready, so it looked fine to visit with a child, 🍼 and there was a separate space set up for changing diapers.

Near the restroom they even had mouthwash and hair ties ready, handy for freshening up after eating before heading out. Seeing these small details made it clear they'd thought about making things comfortable for families :)
Egg Benedict: jambon, poached eggs, fries and olives

The egg Benedict I ordered 🥚 came with jambon and poached egg on top of thin, soft bun-like bread. It came with olives and fries on the side too. The fries were crispy outside and soft inside, so they went well with the egg Benedict, and eating olives in between cut through any richness nicely.
Since the bread wasn't thick, I could really taste the jambon and poached egg together, and when I broke the poached egg, the yolk ran out smoothly. The salty jambon, soft poached egg and plain bread all came together well, making it a light, easy brunch dish :)
Truffle cream gnocchi: gnocchi seared crisp on the outside

Then the truffle cream gnocchi I ordered 🍄 The gnocchi wasn't the usual chewy texture you'd expect — instead the outside was seared crisp. It came with mushrooms and whole wheat bread.

Crispy outside, soft inside — it went really well with the creamy truffle sauce. The truffle aroma came through subtly, and the sauce was thick and nutty, great for scooping up plenty on the gnocchi 🤍 The crisped-up gnocchi in particular had such a distinctive texture, giving a different experience from typical gnocchi!
Is When You Bite worth it for brunch in Tangjeong, Asan?

I got to enjoy a good brunch and spend a relaxed, happy stretch of time there :) The atmosphere and facilities were satisfying too, so if you're looking for brunch in Tangjeong, I'd recommend this place 🤍 And they packed the coffee so nicely to go that I enjoyed sipping it on my way out.
