Uijeongbu café for a weekday cake outing with parents: Forerest

In short

Forerest is a large forest-view café on Nogyang-ro in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi, housed in what looks like a converted house with generous outdoor seating and parking. On a weekday afternoon the writer ordered all three Basque cheesecakes at Forerest — plain at 7,500 won, black sesame and chocolate at 8,000 won each — with an iced café latte at 6,500 won, and found each one soft, dense and not overly sweet. With about 70% of the room made up of families and parents' generation, Forerest is an easy pick for a cake outing with older family members.

I recently visited a large café in Uijeongbu with an impressive forest view. It's called Forerest.

The name itself made me think of a forest, so I went in with high expectations — and honestly, the place lived up to its name. I've been to a lot of large cafés lately, but it's been a while since I found one that actually pulled off a real forest view like this. It's supposedly famous for Basque cheesecake, so I mainly ordered cake. Here's my honest review.

Where is Forerest, and what does the building look like?

Forerest is a large café located in Uijeongbu. Right before the entrance, it sits off to one side of the road, so I actually wondered, "Is this really it?" But once I stepped inside, there was an old wooden sign and vintage props covering the walls, giving it more of a small gallery or curated shop vibe than a café. The address is 181 Nogyang-ro, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do.

And there's plenty of parking space. This photo only shows part of it! Easy parking is definitely one of the perks of a café just outside Seoul.

Inside Forerest and the outdoor seating

Forerest's interior with high wood ceiling and large windows

Stepping inside Forerest, the high ceiling and diagonally slanted wood roof are striking. Natural light pours in through a big triangular window, so visiting during the day makes the whole space bright, and with the chandelier lighting on top, it felt luxurious for a café.

The seating area is huge too, living up to the "large café" name — there are long solid-wood table seats alongside individual tables, arranged in a variety of ways to fit any party size. The wood tables themselves are solid wood with the grain left intact, so just sitting there gave the space real character, and there were tons of outdoor seats.

They kept the forest view visible through the windows and made generous outdoor seating to match. Sitting outside on a nice day, sipping coffee while looking at the forest, is healing in itself.

Even from inside, you can see people chatting at the outdoor tables through the big windows, so indoor and outdoor spaces blend naturally. It really feels like they built a café inside an actual forest? This place looks like it used to be a single-family house that was renovated into a café.

Forerest menu and prices

Basque cheesecake served on a wooden plate
Three Basque cheesecakes with an iced café latte

I had the plain Basque cheesecake, the black sesame one, and the chocolate one. They're served on wooden plates, and the plates themselves match the café vibe so well that the plating alone catches your eye. You have to take a photo of this haha.

A generously sized slice of Basque cheesecake

Each slice was generously sized, so it worked whether you're sharing between two people or eating solo as a filling treat. For drinks, I ordered an iced café latte.

Plain vs black sesame vs chocolate Basque cheesecake

Cross-section of the plain Basque cheesecake with a scorched top

Forerest's plain Basque cheesecake had a deep brown, slightly scorched exterior with a soft cream-colored interior. The first bite immediately delivered that soft, dense texture. Cutting it with a fork felt like slicing through cream while still keeping that denseness. The sweetness wasn't overpowering and stopped right at the right point, so it never felt heavy — you just kept eating.

Black sesame Basque cheesecake dotted with black sesame seeds

The black sesame one had black sesame seeds dotted across the surface, which already looked nutty and rich, and eating it, the toasty black sesame aroma came through strongly. This one had the same soft, dense texture as the plain one. The sweetness was subtle rather than sharp, and I thought my parents would definitely love this flavor. It's a taste that works across ages, from young palates to older ones, and paired with the iced latte, the sweetness and bitterness balanced out nicely.

A slice of chocolate Basque cheesecake

The chocolate one — what more is there to say. Whoever thought to put chocolate into a Basque cheesecake is truly a genius..!!!!!!!!!!!! The denseness and softness blended elegantly with that distinct chocolate flavor... I lost myself eating it.

Why is Forerest this busy on a weekday afternoon?

I actually visited on a weekday afternoon, and I was surprised at how many customers there were (I figured it would be quiet on a weekday), and I was doubly surprised that 70% of that crowd was either families or people around my parents' age. This must be one of those places insiders already know about?? Must be a real cake hotspot.

Ttobagi's one-line verdict on Forerest

Forerest is a perfect café for when you want to relax with a forest view just outside Seoul. With so many outdoor seats, it would be even more satisfying on a nice day, and with plenty of parking, it's an easy pick for a family outing too.

Forerest seating with a forest view and cake

The Basque cheesecake was soft and dense with sweetness that never went overboard, making it a menu item people of any age could enjoy together. If you're looking for a good place to take your parents on an outing, this kind of large café is exactly the right choice.
