Sejong Lake Park Thai restaurant: pineapple fried rice at Mekong Thai

In short

Mekong Thai Sejong Lake Park Branch is a Thai restaurant on the 2nd floor of Sejong Machi at 91 Doum8-ro in Sejong. Visiting outside the lunch rush, the writer ordered pad thai, pineapple fried rice, tom yum rice noodle soup and shrimp wonton rice noodle soup, and even a father eating Thai food for the first time finished the tom yum broth happily. Mekong Thai Sejong Lake Park Branch is a crowd-pleasing Thai restaurant that suits a family meal.

Inside Mekong Thai Sejong Lake Park Branch

Exotic-vibed interior of the Mekong Thai restaurant

The place has such an exotic vibe. I went outside lunch hours and snapped these quickly before people came in.

Quiet seating area before lunch rush

Bright, clean atmosphere.

Bright, clean restaurant interior

Sunlight streams in nicely too, which makes it feel even more like a little trip.

Sunlit window seating

There's a variety of seating, so it looks great for gatherings as well as dates.

What comes with the meal

Pickled onions and danmuji basic side dishes

Pickled onions, prettily colored danmuji (pickled radish), and tea come out first.

A cup of complimentary tea

The tea was refreshing — nice alongside the food or just sipped like an appetizer.

Pickled onions mixed with chili and hoisin sauce

I mixed the chili sauce and hoisin sauce at a 7:3 ratio and stirred it with the onions — already delicious.

How the food tasted

What we ordered: pad thai, pineapple fried rice, tom yum pho, and shrimp wonton pho!

Pad thai

Mekong Thai's pad thai served in a large bowl

First up, pad thai! The bowl is huge, so there's quite a lot of it.

Seafood pad thai with squid, shrimp, and mussels

Loaded with seafood — squid, shrimp, mussels, all of it. Big shrimp and small shrimp both, in generous amounts!

But above all, the sauce seasoning was spot on. My dad, trying proper Thai food for the first time, kept exclaiming how it could be this good haha. The sweet-salty sauce soaked into the noodles perfectly, matching my taste exactly. The bean sprouts and shrimp gave it good texture, and the peanuts added a nutty richness that really brought out the dish's signature flavor!

Pineapple fried rice

Next was the pineapple fried rice, which turned out to be so novel and delicious!

Fluffy fried rice with pineapple pieces

Fluffy, well-seasoned, umami-packed meat fried rice with pineapple as a genuinely great highlight. The combo of sweet pineapple and savory fried rice was excellent. The tangy-sweet, nutty flavors blended together so well that I kept reaching for more without feeling weighed down, and there was an exotic flavor to it that made it especially enjoyable! A special menu item I'd never tried before, found at this Sejong Lake Park Thai restaurant. Even family members who hate pineapple on pizza enjoyed this one haha 😆

Shrimp wonton rice noodle soup

A bowl of shrimp wonton pho

The shrimp wonton pho surprised me with how many shrimp balls it had.

Close-up of shrimp wontons with whole shrimp inside

There's plenty of shrimp in it, plus around 8 shrimp balls. Bouncy balls with whole shrimp inside — so tasty. The broth was clean and light, pairing well with the other dishes.

Tom yum rice noodle soup

Mekong Thai's tom yum pho

Tom yum pho, which really captures that Thai atmosphere! The aroma, tanginess, and seasoning were all delicious and well suited to Korean tastes too.

Tangy tom yum broth with pho noodles

Even my dad, trying tom yum broth for the first time, loved this dish haha. It has this addictive quality where you just keep spooning up the broth 👍

Is Mekong Thai Sejong Lake Park Branch worth a second visit?

Honestly, Thai food tends to be reliably good at most places, so I was curious how this Sejong Lake Park spot would compare. But it exceeded expectations, and it made me think I'd want to come back whenever I'm craving Thai food!

Overall, Mekong Thai really suited my taste! I enjoyed every single dish. I especially liked that beyond the usual pho and fried rice, they had less common menu items like pineapple fried rice that you don't often get to try. It seems like something that would suit most people's tastes without much divide in opinion. A great spot to stop by whenever you need a good restaurant near Sejong Lake Park! Since the food overall suited my palate so well, I'd love to try more menu items next time I'm at Sejong Lake Park :)
