Ever struggled to pick a company dinner spot near Seonleung Station because everywhere feels the same?
I really felt how much a single dish — eel — can change the whole mood of a meal.
What is Manmok, the eel rice bowl restaurant near Seonleung Station?
Manmok is an eel rice bowl (unagi donburi) specialty Japanese restaurant just 273 meters from Exit 2 of Seonleung Station.

Group reservations are available too, so people looking for lunch appointments or company dinners around Daechi-dong or Gangnam seem to come here often.
The space itself, with its calm lighting and wood interior, actually felt really upscale.

The side dishes were all neat and delicious too — combinations that really brought out the eel's flavor. The chawanmushi (savory egg custard) in particular was smooth and gentle on the stomach, a great way to start.
Why Gochang freshwater eel and Kanto-style grilling taste different

Manmok apparently only uses Gochang freshwater eel, considered one of Korea's best sources. Since it's thoroughly managed from origin to selection, I barely noticed any fishy smell.
The cooking method is worth noting too — they grill the eel once, steam it, then brush on sauce and grill it twice more over charcoal, the Kanto-style method. This process apparently reduces the greasiness while keeping the texture tender.
The key thing about Manmok is that it's an eel rice bowl specialty restaurant that cooks Gochang freshwater eel Kanto-style, cutting the grease and bringing out a clean, light flavor.
One whole grilled eel and hanwoo nabe set, 113,000 won

I ordered one whole grilled eel with the hanwoo nabe set, and since it's a set menu it came to ₩113,000.

The hanwoo (Korean beef) in the nabe looked vivid and fresh like tataki, so I was excited even before it went into the pot.

The broth was deep and rich, keeping the meat's flavor fully alive, and there was a generous amount of vegetables too, so it was filling enough even for two.

What impressed me about the eel was that, maybe because of the light, clean quality of Kanto-style cooking, my stomach didn't feel heavy at all even after finishing everything.

Finally, they gave us ice cream for dessert — that kind of thoughtfulness right through to the end of the meal really stood out. It left me feeling good all the way through.
