Obongjip Samseong Branch: octopus stir-fry and bossam in one order near Samseong Station

I was looking for a good restaurant near Samseong Station after work and got a craving for plump fire-grilled octopus! There was a set that let me have both octopus and bossam (boiled pork wraps), and since I wanted both, I went for it!

How to get to Obongjip Samseong Branch and what the restaurant looks like
Obongjip Samseong Branch sits about halfway between Samseong Jungang Station and Samseong Station, so you can also come via Line 2 to Samseong Station! I went through COEX — if you exit toward the COEX South Gate food culture street and cross at the light, you'll get there quickly. The storefront looks quite spacious from outside. It seems like a great spot for office workers' group dinners too.
Here's the inside. Wood-tone tables are lined up throughout, and there's more seating further in! It's spacious, perfect for group gatherings. Near the counter there are hair ties, dental floss, and phone chargers. You can really feel the consideration for guests — makes for a comfortable meal.
Self-serve banchan bar and unlimited rice at lunch
Obongjip Samseong Branch has a separate self-serve bar zone. You can go grab more of the basic banchan (side dishes) there yourself. There's quite a variety of basic banchan haha.
Rice seems to be unlimited during lunch hours! Mixing the fire-grilled octopus with rice is delicious, so if you want to eat your fill, I'd recommend coming at lunchtime!

An apron is a must at a restaurant like this 💃🏻💃🏻
Obongjip's menu and what we ordered
Here's how the Obongjip menu is laid out! From fire-grilled octopus stir-fry to bossam to yeonpotang (spicy octopus soup), it covers everything from full meals to drinking snacks. Menus suitable whether you come for lunch or dinner.

We ordered the nakji obongjip special! It comes with fire-grilled octopus stir-fry (for two) + bossam + jaengban makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles on a tray). Later we also added a kettle of makgeolli and an extra bowl of rice.
- Nakji Obongjip Special ₩62,000 — Fire-grilled octopus stir-fry (for two) + bossam + jaengban makguksu
- Kettle makgeolli ₩6,000
- Bowl of rice ₩1,000
The basic table setting and 9 side dishes at Obongjip
Here's the basic table setup. There's a kiosk, tongs/scissors, small plates, sesame oil, and paper cups. The sesame oil is probably there for when you eat bibimbap, and it was nice that every table had its own. Utensils and tissues/wet wipes are in the drawer beside the table.
Here are the basic banchan! Radish salad, braised burdock root, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), sausage stir-fry, radish kimchi, salted seafood, chili and garlic, ssamjang (dipping sauce), and seaweed soup. The sausage stir-fry was really tasty haha. If you run out, you can just grab more from the self-serve bar.

They even give you seaweed soup, which is perfect alongside soju.

The best way to eat Obongjip's octopus stir-fry
- ① Drizzle sesame oil over your rice
- ② Add seaweed flakes and bean sprouts to taste
- ③ Add the well-cut octopus stir-fry and mix — done!
- TIP: Use the leftover sauce to make fried rice for an extra treat
FYI, this is exactly why I ordered an extra bowl of rice haha.
The nakji obongjip special arrives: 62,000 won for the full spread 🐙🥓🥩🔥

Fire-grilled octopus stir-fry for two
Ta-da — the legendary, gorgeous octopus stir-fry has arrived 💅🏻👸🏻🐙 Look at how plump the octopus is 😋😋 It's stir-fried well in a delicious sauce.

Bossam and jaengban makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles on a tray)
Tender, juicy bossam also makes an appearance — with plenty of bossam kimchi and radish salad on the side. The makguksu (buckwheat noodles) comes generously topped with ground peanuts.
Kettle makgeolli at 6,000 won, poured and toasted

We ordered a kettle of makgeolli, but they said they didn't have makgeolli glasses, so... we toasted with small plates instead ㅠㅠ *

Ta-da-da — and here's the whole nakji obongjip special spread, all laid out 🤤🤤 Look at that big, plump octopus 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 They cut it into bite-sized pieces with scissors for us. Looks so springy. The noodles get mixed evenly too — and the bossam and kimchi are all cut and ready to eat —

How does the fire-grilled octopus taste? Smoky heat and a rice bibimbap
I tried the fire-grilled octopus first. Thanks to the special fire-grilling process, you really get that smoky flavor come through. But the natural flavor of the ingredient is preserved too — the plump octopus still tasted distinctly like octopus underneath. I had a strong feeling the sauce would be great mixed with rice, so I immediately ordered a bowl —

Following the instructions for how to eat it best, I added bean sprouts, seaweed flakes, octopus and sauce, then drizzled a round of sesame oil over it all haha. I threw in some extra cheongyang chili too. One bite in, and I could tell I'd finish the whole bowl 👍🏻 If you're having the octopus stir-fry, I really recommend the bibimbap.

I wrapped bossam with the noodles too, and piled on bossam kimchi and garlic for good measure. So tender and juicy — the bossam was delicious! Between the octopus, the bibimbap, the bossam, and the noodles, there was so much variety that I never got tired of it and somehow finished everything haha. I'd really recommend this combo for a work dinner or group gathering! It's nice being able to try so many different things. Thanks for the meal (_ _)
