Semi-outdoor Korean BBQ seats in Cheonho-dong, Seoul: Gim Sukseong

In short

Gim Sukseong Seongnae Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Cheonho-dong, Gangdong, Seoul, a 5–10 minute walk from Cheonho Station Exit 6, with free parking for two cars in front. Seated at one of the two semi-outdoor tables, the writer ordered the Gim Sukseong Special 2 (two servings of pork neck, plus pork belly and pork jowl) with spicy crab sauce rice, and the staff grilled everything at the table, adding kimchi and minari to the pan. The spicy crab sauce rice, fried on the griddle after the meat was finished, was the best part of the meal.

I was craving pork belly for the first time in ages, so I searched around and found this Cheonho-dong gem, Gim Sukseong Seongnae Branch. I reserved through Naver ahead of time and headed over.

Gim Sukseong Seongnae Branch is a 5–10 minute walk from Cheonho Station Exit 6. There's parking on site too, so it's fine to drive — though there are only 2 spots, so it's a good idea to call the store to check before you go, haha.

The storefront and the two semi-outdoor tables

The exterior of Gim Sukseong, this Cheonho-dong favorite. It looks pretty hip at first glance haha. With the weather so nice lately, all the doors were open, which gave it a really open, breezy feel. And they even had a couple of semi-outdoor seats +_+

Sign explaining 20-day cross-aging and the daytime drink event

They say Gim Sukseong Seongnae Branch cross-ages its meat for 20+ days for a deeper flavor. Also, from 11 to 6, there's a daytime drink event with soju and beer at ₩2,000 — worth keeping in mind if you visit ><

Inside Gim Sukseong Seongnae Branch: seating and layout

Inside Gim Sukseong, this Cheonho-dong spot. The interior was spacious with plenty of tables and felt clean overall. There was a restroom right inside, which was nice haha. Since the weather was so good, we asked to sit outside and staff seated us right away >_<

Gim Sukseong menu and what we ordered

The menu board at Gim Sukseong Seongnae Branch, this Cheonho-dong favorite. The meat options were chadol (thin-sliced beef brisket), pork belly, premium pork neck, and skirt meat, and the premium pork neck seemed to be their signature dish haha.

  • 📝Ordered
  • Gim Sukseong Special 2 (pork neck x2 servings, pork belly, skirt meat)
  • Spicy crab sauce rice

Side dishes at Gim Sukseong, cheese salt included

The basic side dishes came out generously: green onion kimchi, wild garlic leaves, seasoned crab, lettuce wraps, kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), and more haha. Also, the ssamjang (dipping sauce) and salt here are homemade!! The salt was unusual — they called it cheese salt.

Since we had the semi-outdoor seats, there was a nice breeze, perfect for the current weather~~ There are only 2 outdoor seats, so come early to grab one ><

A plate of raw meat for the Gim Sukseong Special 2, over 570g

Gim Sukseong Special 2: over 570g, just right for two

The Gim Sukseong Special 2 arrived right away. They say the total weight is over 570g, but at first glance the meat looked a bit small — was that going to be enough? But I was wrong. If two people order the Special 2, it's just right. It felt like about 2.5 servings haha.

Thick premium pork neck being grilled

Can you see how thick the pork neck is... Now I understand why they call it premium pork neck ♥ It's really thick and looks tricky to grill, but the staff grilled it for us, which made everything so much easier and nicer.

Grilled meat topped with kimchi and minari on the griddle

The owner clearly knows their stuff, because once the meat was fully grilled, they topped it with kimchi and minari ><. First to be ready was the skirt meat, and they told us to try it first. Completely tender, that's all I can say...♡ The pork belly was tasty too, but the premium pork neck was absolutely amazing!!!!!! So bouncy and chewy, I don't even know how to describe it >_<~~~~♥ The texture with every bite was so, so good. And none of the meat was dry — it was all soft and melted in your mouth... just looking at it makes me drool...ㅠ

We also ordered the spicy crab sauce rice, which tasted like a sweet bibimbap!! I figured it would taste even better fried on the griddle, so after finishing all the meat, we fried it on the leftover griddle — and it was even more delicious haha.

Worth it for pork belly in Cheonho-dong?
