Gangdong gukbap restaurant solo set with 3 sundae: Boseung Hoegwan

In short

Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch is a 24-hour gukbap (rice-and-soup) restaurant right in front of Cheonho Station in Gangdong, Seoul. The pork-neck gukbap and the one-person set meal were both upgraded to the premium size, which brought tender boiled pork neck, three kinds of sundae (Korean blood sausage) in different colors and textures, and clean-tasting pyeonyuk (pressed boiled pork). Boseung Hoegwan works equally well for solo dining, a hangover cure, or a filling dinner.

These days it's getting a bit cooler morning and evening, so I've been craving hot soup. Especially after running around outside all day, there are days when I really want a bowl of gukbap (Korean soup with rice), rice mixed right in with a scoop of kimchi on top haha.

This time I went to Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch, right in front of Cheonho Station. (It's been ages since I've been to Cheonho Station haha.) I got to see how much the area around the station has changed, and eat something delicious too.

If you trip coming out of Cheonho Station, you'd basically fall into this place — that close

The location is really convenient. It's just steps from Cheonho Station, making it a great choice when you're looking for a hearty meal in the area, and the inside of the restaurant stretches back further than you'd expect from outside.

The whole place has a wood-tone look that feels clean, and the tables have plenty of space between them, so it didn't have that cramped, noisy feeling gukbap restaurants usually have.

As soon as I sat down, they brought cold water right away, and the staff were very friendly. You order through a table kiosk, so I could take my time browsing the menu.

Upgrading the pork-neck gukbap and one-person set to premium

Pork-neck gukbap and the solo set meal at Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch, a sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) restaurant with no off-putting smell

That day I ordered the pork-neck gukbap and the solo set meal, and got a little greedy and upgraded both to the premium size.

The result? I ate my absolute fill of meat haha.

What the pork-neck gukbap tastes like

Pork-neck gukbap loaded generously with pork neck

The pork-neck gukbap at Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch feels a bit different from a regular sundaeguk. It's loaded with generous, soft pork neck — I fished out just the meat first and ate it with chives, and it was moist and tender. Pork neck usually has more fat and a rich, savory reputation, so a lot of people probably assume it'll be greasy in soup. But once you try it, you realize that richness doesn't 'carry straight through' into the gukbap the way you'd expect.

The color is genuinely that milky shade you get from bone broth simmered all year round.

Then you mix in the rice, plop a piece of kkakdugi (radish kimchi) or kimchi on top, and that's exactly the spoonful of gukbap you're hoping for!

It's the kind of hot soup that would please anyone near Cheonho Station looking for a hangover cure, and it's satisfying without needing a lot of extra ingredients thrown in, since the meat itself is so generous.

The one-person set: three kinds of sundae plus pyeonyuk

The composition of the solo set meal at Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch was really good. Instead of just one type of sundae, you get three that differ slightly in color and filling, each with its own savoriness and texture, so it's fun picking through them. Cut open, you can see the filling packed in tight. On top of that, there's a generous portion of boiled pork too. It felt cleaner and less gamey than boiled pork I've had elsewhere, and dipping it lightly in salted shrimp, I kept reaching for more.

The triangle formation of gukbap + boiled pork + sundae

The solo set meal served with gukbap, three types of sundae, and boiled pork

Getting gukbap, sundae, and boiled pork all at once makes the 'solo set meal' incredibly generous for its name. It's an especially good spread for anyone dining alone who wants to try a bit of everything.

Kkakdugi and kimchi that round out the gukbap

The kimchi and kkakdugi paired well with the gukbap too — mix in rice, top with chives and pork neck, finish with a bit of kimchi on top, and there's really nothing more to say haha.

Why 24-hour opening helps at Boseung Hoegwan

Being open 24 hours is another advantage of Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch — you can walk in whether it's morning or late at night. If you're near Cheonho Station wanting to handle solo dining, a hangover, or a hearty dinner all in one place, this is one worth remembering.

Final verdict on Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch

  • 🍲 The pork neck is generous and soft, so the gukbap alone is genuinely filling.
  • 🥩 Upgrading to premium makes it plenty for even serious meat lovers.
  • 🌭 The three sundae types differ slightly in color and texture, making it fun to compare them one by one.
  • 🐷 The boiled pork is also clean with no gamey smell, and dipping it in salted shrimp makes a great combo.
  • 🚉 A spacious, clean restaurant right in front of Cheonho Station, plus 24-hour hours make it easy to get to.
