Lunchtime gukbap with self-serve kimchi in Jung-gu, Daegu: Hanwoojang
In short
Hanwoojang is a 24-hour seolleongtang and ttaro-gukbap (spicy beef and rice soup) restaurant on Gukchaebosang-ro in Jung-gu, Daegu, a five-minute walk from Exit 4 of Jungangno Station. At lunch the special seolleongtang costs 13,000 won and the special ttaro-gukbap 12,000 won; both come with blood curd and extra noodles, and the blood curd pieces at Hanwoojang are unusually large. Open since 1968 and now run by the second generation, Hanwoojang was full of older regulars, and the self-serve kimchi and kkakdugi were the best part of the meal.

Today I'm introducing a seolleongtang and gukbap (Korean soup with rice) spot near Jungangno Station in Dongseong-ro, Daegu — 'Hanwoojang.' It's especially famous for its red-broth ttaro-gukbap. Let's check out the various soup menu items.

Hanwoojang 📍 Address: 555 Gukchaebosang-ro, 1F, Jung-gu, Daegu ⏰ Hours: Every day 00:00–24:00, open 24 hours, no closed days 🚘 Parking: paid lots near the store 👶🏻 High chairs: yes
Where is Hanwoojang, and where do you park?
Hanwoojang is 5 minutes from Exit 4 of Jungangno Station! If you're driving, there's a paid lot called Mankyungkwan parking behind the restaurant — it's cheap and close, so parking is easy. Or I'd also recommend Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park parking lot.

And you know real hidden gems have lots of older customers, right? I went at lunchtime and wow… so many seniors packed in! That's basically proof it's a good restaurant?!

Let's hurry inside haha. This place is open 24 hours. If you're out drinking, coming here at dawn for a hangover cure would be perfect, right??
Whoa‼️ It's covered in autographs, from celebrities to baseball players. Looks like people come from far away too.

The weather outside the window is nice too — a perfect day to crave a bowl of gukbap~

Hanwoojang menu: special seolleongtang 13,000 won, special ttaro-gukbap 12,000 won
Here's a closer look at the menu. Go ahead and pick what you like☁️ I ordered the special seolleongtang for 13,000 won and the special ttaro-gukbap for 12,000 won.

Hanwoojang has been running since 1968, and now the owner's son runs it as the second generation. Above all, the staff are really friendly. Even during the busy lunch rush, they took the time to recommend menu items!

You can see straight into the kitchen through the big glass window, so you can watch the cooking process yourself — it's reassuring! You can tell right away how clean and confident this place is, right?? Thumbs up to the owner👍

The self-serve bar has kimchi, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), peppers, pickled onions, and other side dishes ready to go.

Special ttaro-gukbap: red broth with blood curd and extra noodles
Here it is✨ The red-broth ttaro-gukbap. The broth color is unusually red, giving it a Gyeongsang-do-style beef soup kind of feel?? Since I ordered the special version, it comes with sundae (blood curd) and extra noodles.

Look at the photo^.^ The blood curd is haha… insanely huge. I love blood curd, so I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who does too.

How big is the special seolleongtang for 13,000 won?
The seolleongtang has a milky white broth, a generous portion, and of course extra noodles included. The meat portion is generous too, looking really appetizing.
Look at the portion. But how can it be this good, at this price, in this location? These days 15,000 won is basically standard, but this special seolleongtang is only 13,000 won. How could you not eat here?!?!

The size of that blood curd haha, isn't it crazy? And there's zero fishy taste, just savory and nutty — exactly like the liver you eat with sundae. It's smooth with no off flavors, going down easily.

The seolleongtang broth is milky and mild, clean and not overly seasoned — perfect for a hearty meal. If you're looking for a gukbap restaurant, seolleongtang restaurant, or suyuk (boiled pork/beef slices) restaurant in Dongseong-ro, Daegu, this is the place👏 Maybe because there are so many bars in Dongseong-ro, there are a ton of gukbap restaurants too, but the deep, rich broth here is outstanding, so don't bother considering other places — definitely try Hanwoojang. Being such a long-running restaurant, it's been consistently loved in Dongseong-ro^.^

High chairs and the self-serve kimchi and kkakdugi bar
Of course there are high chairs too. And the most important point❣️ the kimchi and kkakdugi here are insanely good;; Honestly good enough to come just for those, so trust me… go back for seconds on the kimchi and kkakdugi.

The restaurant is spacious, not intimidating to visit alone, and the staff are friendly. Table turnover is fast even at lunchtime, so if you wait a bit you'll be seated and eating right away.

If you're looking for a gukbap restaurant or seolleongtang restaurant in Daegu, don't overthink it — just head here. You won't regret it🥺
