I went to Juyukjeom, a well-known restaurant in Gyodong, Daegu. Juyukjeom serves both lunch and dinner, so it's a great spot whether you're looking for a good lunch in Gyodong or an after-work drink. And what's the weather like these days? Perfect for eating outside! Yajang! Juyukjeom Gyodong Main Branch is one of the spots where you can do exactly that.

A lot of people are looking for outdoor drinking spots these days, and this is one of the few places in Gyodong where you can do it. Let's enjoy this weather before the ice age hits.

How to find Juyukjeom in the Gyodong gold shop alley

Juyukjeom Gyodong Main Branch isn't right on the main street of Gyodong, but it's very close, tucked into the gold shop alley. There are a lot of standing signs outside, so it wasn't hard to find at all. The moment I saw it I was like, oh, this is it! Haha.

Turning into the alley, you get this outdoor seating — so good! There are only 4 outdoor tables, so grab one no matter what⭐ You can also make a phone reservation when it's not too busy.

Indoor seating and restrooms at Juyukjeom

The outdoor space is great, but the indoor area is clean and nice too. Plenty of tables, well maintained. Restrooms are inside, separated by gender.

The self-serve side dish bar: braised beef and young radish kimchi

Juyukjeom has a self-serve side dish bar too — beyond the basics, there's braised beef, radish greens kimchi (yeolmu kimchi), and lots of other tasty sides, so definitely go check it out haha.

Juyukjeom's mascot cat, ugh, she's so cute. Loves being petted, a total lap cat 🐈 If you visit Juyukjeom you'll leave fully satisfied on the cat front too, haha.

Juyukjeom's menu and what to order: the signature grandma-style potato chicken feet

Juyukjeom has hot plate main dishes, set menus, and a lunch special that's a great deal on price too. I was craving something spicy so I went with the signature grandma-style potato chicken feet (halmae gamja dakbal). The black pork dish kept catching my eye too — I'm definitely coming back soon just to try that one!

If you write a review, you can get a dish roughly on par with a full menu item, like doenjang jjigae or grilled pork trotters (even a 2-person portion) — worth taking part in, right?

The sirak-guk (dried radish green soup) that comes as a basic side was already calling for soju.

Anyone not enjoying soju outdoors in weather like this these days is a fool. The chicken feet take about 15 minutes to come out, and the sirak-guk, braised beef, and garlic scapes were so good that we'd already emptied half a bottle just on the basic sides ^^

How do the potato chicken feet taste? Potato, cheese and a spicy broth

The visual on the grandma-style potato chicken feet is amazing, right? Thin-sliced, fried-crisp potatoes wrapped all around, a generous layer of cheese to tone down the spice, and saucy chicken feet underneath!! A soul food for women.

As far as I know there's no way to adjust the spice level, and this chicken feet dish is REALLY spicy! So if you're in the mood for something spicy today, or want to blow off some stress, I'd recommend this one, haha.

When it gets too spicy, a shot of soju helps balance it out! They also give you a dipping sauce made with mayonnaise, sesame seeds, and sesame oil, which is the best for taming the heat.

Wrapping a bite in the potato and cheese turns out to be a surprisingly great combo. Crispy potato texture, nutty cheese flavor, and spicy chewy chicken feet — perfect together!

Oh, and the couple at the table next to us ordered the black pork — 2-3 servings each — a whopping four times. Even the staff were surprised, and so were we. We were too full to try that dish ourselves, but now I'm so curious how good it must be that I want to come back to this Daegu Gyodong outdoor drinking spot before the ice age hits!!

6,000-won egg noodles at Juyukjeom, in a triple-extra-large portion

Partway through, the wind picked up and I suddenly craved something hot and brothy. My husband is a noodle fanatic too, so we ordered the egg noodles — and the portion size, haha. Extra extra extra large! The amount was genuinely huge for just ₩6,000... insane. Loaded with egg too, so it doubles as a protein boost, and the broth had a lot of sesame oil and sesame seeds, giving it a nutty richness that was perfect for cooling down the spice from the chicken feet.

Every single dish was delicious, and the side dishes were excellent too, which makes me think everything else on the menu must be great as well. This is definitely a place I want to come back to for round two of outdoor night dining with a different dish 👍🏻
