Korean BBQ group dinner for four in Gayang, Seoul: Gamgol Yeontanjip

Today I want to share my visit to Gamgol Yeontanjip Gayang Station Branch, a new BBQ restaurant that just opened near Gayang Station — my own neighborhood! There haven't been many good restaurants around here, so I was so happy to see a BBQ place open up right near the station. I heard there's even a wait during dinner hours, and the big sign really caught my eye as I walked by. I'd been looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant I could casually go to nearby, so since this was new, I went to check it out right away.

Walking into Gamgol Yeontanjip Gayang Station Branch, I got a slightly retro vibe from the interior. I've been really into this charcoal-grill kind of atmosphere lately haha.

There were more cuts of meat on the menu than I expected, so I spent a while deciding what to order while looking at the menu board.

What four adults ordered at Gamgol Yeontanjip

There were 4 of us adults, and we ordered juljul teukmok-sal (pork neck) x2, seolhwa kkoldeul-sal x1, yeontan wang-sogeum samgyeop (salt-grilled pork belly) x1, gochujang yeontan bulgogi x1, and on top of that yeontan bokkeumbap, napjak bibimmyeon, and doenjang sulbap. That's quite a lot for four people, right? Haha. But when you're eating meat, you still can't give up on the rice dishes...

After ordering, we waited a bit and the meat came out in an earthenware pot — it looked pretty appetizing right off the bat. Each cut came out separately, so we grilled and tried them one by one.

Personally, I liked the pork neck the most. Even though it's pork neck, it wasn't dry at all — the meat itself was so tender that I kept reaching for more.

It's a bit sad when there's no kimchi with your meat, right? Haha. We put the kimchi and green onion kimchi that came with the meal onto the grill and cooked them alongside the meat. Getting a little char in the meat fat seemed to make the kimchi even tastier. The green onion kimchi in particular cut through the richness when eaten with the meat, so I kept going back for more.

So if you're looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant near Gayang, I'd recommend grilling the samgyeopsal together with the kimchi.

Napjak bibimmyeon: the flat bibim noodles were my favourite

The moment I saw napjak bibimmyeon (flat spicy mixed noodles) on the menu at Gamgol Yeontanjip Gayang Station Branch, I had a feeling it'd be my style, so I ordered it. It's tangy mixed noodles topped with minari (water dropwort), and it went so well with the grilled meat.

Putting a piece of meat on top and wrapping it with the napjak bibimmyeon was perfect! It was tangy and refreshing, cutting through the richness of the meat, and eating it in between bites kept things from getting monotonous. I'd personally recommend ordering this menu alongside your meat haha.

I went in thinking only about samgyeopsal since I was looking for a BBQ restaurant near Gayang Station, but it turned out even better that I got to pick and try several different cuts.

Honestly, I was already pretty full from all the meat, but I got curious about the gochujang yeontan bulgogi haha. So in the end, we ordered that too. The lightly grilled gochujang bulgogi was tasty eaten with rice, and also good spooned on top of the other meat little by little. Rather than sticking to just one menu, being able to try several different flavors like this makes it a great option to order when you're visiting with a group. If you're looking for a BBQ restaurant near Gayang Station and going with several people, I'd recommend ordering multiple dishes to share!

And then, K-dessert... no wait, K-rice haha. No matter how full you get on meat, you still need rice, right? I can hold back on everything else, but holding back on rice is just too hard for me. So we ordered yeontan bokkeumbap (charcoal fried rice) and doenjang sulbap too.

The yeontan bokkeumbap was so cute just in its shape. It really comes out shaped like a briquette — I wondered how they even made it look like that haha. Fun to photograph and it tasted solidly good too.

Why you should order the doenjang sulbap

And then, doenjang sulbap! If you like a rich doenjang (soybean paste) flavor, you'll love this. There's crab in it too, so the broth had a faint seafood aroma. After eating meat, having a bowl of doenjang sulbap really filled me up. So if you're looking for Korean food near Gayang Station and want a proper meal alongside your meat, this combination is worth considering.

At the very end, we tried a slush too haha. There were a few flavors, and since they had cherry coke, I went with that. Finishing off with a cool slush after all that meat brought back memories from childhood and it was fun haha. From meat to a proper meal to dessert at the end, we ate pretty thoroughly.

Is this new Gayang Station BBQ spot worth it? Final verdict

Overall, I was glad to have a BBQ restaurant I can casually visit right in my neighborhood. The pork neck was tasty, the kkoldeul-sal was chewy in a way that suited my taste, and with rice dishes like the napjak bibimmyeon and doenjang sulbap also on the menu, it was great to order a bunch of different things when visiting as a group. The pork neck and kkoldeul-sal were the two that stuck with me the most.

If you're looking for a BBQ restaurant near Gayang Station, this place is worth a visit. If you want to eat meat and then fill up properly on rice, keep this in mind for Korean food near Gayang Station too. Since it's new to my neighborhood, I think I'll be coming back whenever I'm craving meat haha.
