Today I visited Coco's Sungshin Women's University branch, a Sungshin Women's University bar that's great value for money and has a big enough space for group bookings too.

This is a Sungshin Women's University bar with real heart behind it. The owner hates the idea of eating something tasteless just to fill up, so this place runs on delicious food at reasonable prices! Tasty food doesn't have to be expensive, right? They have a diverse lineup of anju (drinking snacks), and it's all great value.
The two Welsh corgis who work as mascots

The owner's two Welsh corgis are so gentle, wagging their tails every time a customer comes in — they're basically the mascots of Coco's! The place has been open for a long time and has lots of regulars, and I think some of them come just to see these mascots!

You check the menu and order right from a tablet~ It had been a while since I'd been to a university-district bar, and the vibe was noticeably young and full of energy.

What I picked today at Coco's, this Sungshin Women's University bar, was the salmon + jjigae set. The salmon sashimi anju, which women especially seem to love, is Coco's signature dish.
The quality of the salmon sashimi was really good~ I could see why it's the main dish! The plating is pretty, but the thickness of the cuts is something else!
For the salmon sashimi, honestly you don't need any other sauce — this sauce is the best!
They break down and trim the salmon themselves, cure it once, then age it a second time with kelp for a deep umami flavor — apparently this salmon sashimi is the most popular menu item at Coco's, this Sungshin Women's University bar. It's also a light drinking snack that women tend to love~
Being able to enjoy salmon sashimi of this quality at a bar made this Sungshin Women's University bar even better.
Brisket-tofu doenjang jjigae in the low 10,000 won range: how big is the portion?
I'm the type who needs something with broth while drinking, so I also ordered the brisket-tofu jjigae — and is this quality really in the low ₩10,000s? There's a genuinely huge amount of tofu and brisket in there. You simmer it as you eat, and the broth flavor is amazing. I feel like I understand now why the owner hates the idea of serving something tasteless. If I lived nearby, I'd become a regular here! These days you can drop ₩10,000 on just one meal, so being able to have a jjigae in the ₩10,000s alongside a shot of soju is what makes this a Sungshin Women's University bar worth knowing about.
The broth was fantastic, and there was so much in the pot that picking through it all was fun in itself — this brisket-tofu doenjang jjigae. Now that it's getting chilly, I feel like I'll keep thinking about this jjigae~ It's the perfect pairing for soju. The other anju options looked like great value too, so I'll have to try more of them next time!
