It's also known for its hot stone monkfish (maekbanseok agujjim) — we came here last year for that — but this time we came for their signature braised kodari. If you're going for lunch, Naver reservation is a must

Even though we arrived around 1:30pm, the place was packed. We had booked through Naver Reservation the day before — if we hadn't, we'd probably have waited too. Actually, everyone who came in after us did end up waiting. If you're planning a lunchtime visit, I definitely recommend booking on Naver first ⭐️

What we ordered

Basic side dishes

The basic side dishes at Appa Jjim include cold seaweed soup, glazed nuts, seaweed stems, pickled onion, and salad, plus bean sprouts and dried seaweed sheets that come as an add-on with the kodari order. Not a huge number of dishes, but everything was tasty. The tangy cold seaweed soup and nutty seaweed stems especially hit the spot~

Hyangmi pot rice

Each bowl of Appa Jjim's hyangmi pot rice 🍚 is portioned for two. They say it's made with suhyangmi rice, known for its subtle sweet aroma and good stickiness! It comes out chewy with a gentle sweetness — good enough to eat plain.

The staff removed the large bones from the kodari for us, which made it much easier to eat.

Dried radish braised kodari, medium size (₩50,000), mild spice review

The dried radish braised kodari (seasoned pollock with radish greens), medium size, ₩50,000. Appa Jjim's braised kodari lets you choose your spice level (mild / spicy / extra spicy), and we went with mild 🌶 The mild option turned out to be just gently spicy — totally doable for anyone who can't handle heat!

The medium size comes with three good-sized kodari. The sauce is thick and rich with savory flavor. The radish and soft tofu that soak up the sauce are the real MVPs!! The well-braised kodari is savory yet chewy 🤤 and paired with the nutritious dried radish greens, it's a can't-fail combination.

You know it's good to mix the seasoned bean sprouts and wrap them with the kodari in dried seaweed while eating, right~~?

A Hanam lunch spot to bring your parents to

The four of us — my parents, my husband, and me — picked the kodari clean down to the heads, total clean sweep. My mom, who loves kodari normally, was completely satisfied. With a lunch special that comes with both braised kodari and pot rice, Appa Jjim Hanam seems like a great choice for a lunch gathering too.
