On a weekend trip out to Paju, I was craving a proper Korean meal, so I stopped by Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap!
These days I sometimes crave meals with rice and lots of side dishes rather than anything too spicy or heavy, and this was exactly that kind of day!
After some searching, I ended up at Deulkkot Ssambap, near Simhaksan mountain haha. I wanted somewhere I could eat well and fill up, and the overall spread was so generous I left satisfied! When you're looking for a hearty ssambap restaurant near Simhaksan, this kind of full spread really can't be beat!

What comes with the set for two at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap?
We ordered the deuljeongsik set for two people that day! It's QR code ordering haha.
The deuljeongsik set comes with banchan (side dishes), doenjang stew, gangdoenjang (thick soybean paste), unlimited ssam greens, stone-pot rice, pork bulgogi, and stir-fried squid — a pretty generous spread for two! I liked that we didn't have to order each dish separately and could enjoy a variety all at once haha.

The meal starts with pumpkin porridge
Before the main meal, pumpkin porridge came out as a starter! It had a thick texture and that gentle natural sweetness pumpkin has, so I enjoyed it a lot haha. It felt like it was settling my stomach before the real meal began, so it made a great first impression!

Unlimited ssam greens: pick only the ones you want
And the thing I liked most here was the unlimited ssam (wrap) greens!

There were various kinds of wrap greens set out, all looking fresh overall, and best of all you could refill them endlessly! You could just grab whichever kinds you wanted, so you could enjoy your wraps exactly to your taste haha.
So this would also suit anyone looking for a ssambap restaurant near the Paju outlets! It felt like a great spot to visit after shopping, when you want a filling meal of meat and vegetables together!

It seemed like there might be a wait during busy hours!

Freshly cooked stone-pot rice and a nurungji finish
Putting pork bulgogi or squid stir-fry on fresh wrap greens along with rice was so good! Eating more vegetables than usual made me feel like I was having a genuinely healthy meal too haha.
The stone-pot rice was really great too! It comes freshly cooked right after ordering — the rice was glossy and had a nice chewy texture, good enough to eat on its own! I really think the rice quality is what makes or breaks a Korean set-course meal overall.

After scooping out the rice, they poured water into the pot to make nurungji (scorched rice)! Having the warm nurungji at the end made the meal feel much more complete and filling!

Doenjang stew, gangdoenjang, stir-fried pork and squid
Doenjang stew, of course, can't be left out!!! It had a savory flavor that went well with the ssambap, and it wasn't too strong, so it paired nicely with everything else haha. With gangdoenjang also on the table, we could enjoy the wraps in a few different ways!
The main dishes — pork bulgogi and stir-fried squid — exceeded expectations too! I especially loved the pork bulgogi haha. It had a subtle smoky char and just the right amount of spice! The seasoning wasn't too strong either, so it was perfect piled on a wrap with rice!!

The squid stir-fry had a generous amount of squid in it, which I liked! Alternating between the two, or piling both on a wrap together, worked really well too!! With a spread like this, it would make a satisfying pick when looking for a good place to eat in Paju haha. Getting rice, meat, vegetables and banchan all together made it feel like a proper full meal!

Since I kept refilling the wrap greens, I ended up eating a ton of vegetables throughout the meal! It felt much more balanced than a meal that's all meat, which I personally really liked!! So if you're looking for a hearty Korean set-course meal near Simhaksan and want something healthy and filling, I think Deulkkot Ssambap is worth a visit!

Finishing with nurungji!

Dessert at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap: ice cream and Korean sweets
After the meal, dessert was ready too! There was ice cream and Korean sweets, so I tried a little of each — a nice sweet way to close out the meal! Both the ice cream and the sweets were enjoyable and light, and I left having eaten well right to the very end haha.

Who is this Paju ssambap set for two best for?
Overall I liked how varied the dishes were while still pairing well together! The combination of freshly made stone-pot rice, pork bulgogi and fresh wrap greens is what stuck with me the most!
If you're looking for a ssambap restaurant near the Paju outlets, it seems like a great stop before or after shopping for a filling meal, and it also looked like a good spot for families or friends to share a variety of dishes! Personally, this is somewhere I'd want to revisit whenever I'm craving a hearty meal with plenty of vegetables like this one!
When searching for a good place to eat in Paju, you sometimes run into spots with either way too many menu options or too few — but with the Deulkkot Ssambap set, everything comes out together on one table, so you don't have to agonize over what to order haha.
Starting with pumpkin porridge, then moving through stone-pot rice, banchan, pork bulgogi, squid stir-fry and wraps, and finishing with nurungji and dessert — it really was a filling, complete meal! If you're after a hearty Korean set-course meal near Simhaksan or a ssambap restaurant near the Paju outlets, come enjoy a wrap-filled meal at Deulkkot Ssambap!
