Yeouido IFC Mall tteokbokki with ramyeon and mini gimbap: Hyeonseonine
In short
Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is an instant tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cake) restaurant on basement level 2 of IFC Mall in Yeouido, Seoul, linked underground to Yeouido Station Exit 3 by moving walkway. On a Saturday at 1:30pm the 22,000-won set for two in medium spice came with added ramyeon noodles, fish cake and mini gimbap, and the fun was watching the broth cook down into rabokki while the rice cakes stayed soft. Medium spice is not spicy at all at Hyeonseonine Premium, so anyone who likes heat should order the spicy level.

Hyeonseonine Premium menu and what we ordered
The set for two at Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is ₩22,000, and on top of that we added ramyeon noodles for ₩15,000, one fish cake for ₩1,000, a zero-sugar cola for ₩2,000, and mini gimbap for ₩5,000. Tteokbokki spice level can be chosen as mild, medium, or spicy.

We went around 1:30 on a Saturday and people kept streaming in. Tteokbokki really is Korea's soul food, isn't it ^.^?!

Looks like a Wiirak-style fried chili pepper. Looks delicious.

Apparently this place was already famous back in Yongsan. Started as a street food cart, they say — must be really good to have gotten this famous... I'm excited.

What to grab from the self-serve bar
At Hyeonseonine Premium, utensil sets, pickled radish, water, wet wipes, and small plates are all self-serve. Soy sauce and salt are also available to take as needed.

Cooking the 22,000-won set for two in medium spice
The set for two arrives. It's been so long since I've had instant tteokbokki. Used to eat a lot of it at Meokswidonna and around Sillim back in the day... memories, ugh. These days it's flood of trendy restaurants everywhere, so I haven't had this dish in years — suddenly felt so nostalgic and happy hahaha.

You should definitely order at least one fish cake. They give you plenty of broth, which makes eating the rice cakes even better ^.^

The fish cake was plump and delicious. Been ages since I've had fish cake like this too hahahaha.

Inside there are 4 pieces of yakimandu (fried dumplings), jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles), and 2 boiled eggs. Everything comes in even numbers for two people, which is such a nice touch hahaha. I especially love that it's one egg per person.
The tteokbokki boils incredibly fast. At first the broth is so plentiful you can scoop it up like soup, and then as it reduces, the flavor changes — that's part of the charm too.

Once it looks like this, it's ready to eat!

The rice cakes here are genuinely soft and chewy. I'm honestly not usually a huge fan of tteokbokki rice cakes, but these were so soft and delicious. It reminds me of the soft rice cakes you get in dak-han-mari (whole chicken stew)!

Mini gimbap: 4 rolls for 5,000 won, generously filled
Hyeonseonine's mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll) comes in 4 rolls for ₩5,000. I was torn between this and a tuna mayo rice bowl, but I'm so glad I ordered this!!! The second I saw how it looked, I knew I made the right call hahaha.

This isn't the kind of mini gimbap that's just pickled radish stuffed inside — the filling was genuinely packed. It's basically a full-size gimbap shrunk down, loaded with ingredients!! And the sesame oil smell is so nutty and fragrant, ugh.

Looking at the cross-section, it's basically a regular gimbap from any gimbap shop, honestly?? Hahahaha, super generous.
I ordered gimbap just to do this hahahaha. Gimbap has to be dipped deep into the tteokbokki broth to taste its best!!

If you pull the yakimandu out before it gets too soft, you can eat it crispy. There's a decent amount of cabbage in it too, which I liked ^.^ I love the thick part of the cabbage — everyone else seems to hate it, but why? It's delicious!
The broth wasn't too thick yet at this point, so I scooped up a lot of it ^.^ Right at this timing.

When to add the ramyeon noodles and how to manage the broth
Time to toss in the ramyeon noodles! You should enjoy the clear broth fully before adding them, since once the noodles go in, it thickens up fast.
But once it thickens, it's great for dipping the eggs into — that's its own kind of charm hahahaha.
Just let it bubble away. If the broth runs low, adding the fish cake broth we ordered earlier keeps it from tasting bland — it's perfect.

It felt like the dish transformed from instant tteokbokki into rabokki (ramyeon-tteokbokki). Genuinely been forever since I had rabokki too... used to eat it a lot at Kimbap Cheonguk, and this tastes exactly like that hahahaha.
How spicy is Hyeonseonine Premium's medium level?
The medium spice at Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch wasn't spicy at all ^.^ If you like spicy food, go with the spicy option!!!!!
That thick, reduced broth! As a Korean, I wanted to fry rice in it right then and there ^.^... The sweet-and-spicy seasoning had that addictive flavor that clings to your mouth, and after not having instant tteokbokki in a while, it felt like a little trip down memory lane — filling and happy.
