After a long, exhausting workday with an empty stomach, I stumbled into this Pyeongnae restaurant and came out completely healed! Here's my honest review of Jagaljip Pyeongnae, a place that nails both atmosphere and value haha.

You know those days when you're completely drained after a busy day and desperately craving something greasy and satisfying? That was exactly the kind of day when I found myself walking, almost hypnotized, into this place on my way home from work.
Cutting to the chase: the taste, atmosphere, price, and service were all on point, so I've finally found my go-to Pyeongnae pork belly restaurant — one I'll definitely be back to soon.
An entire gravel floor inside, camping-pojangmacha vibes
The moment I walked through the door, I let out an involuntary "Wow!"

The entire interior floor was covered in gravel, and the sight alone was genuinely striking. Camping-themed restaurants and pojangmacha (street tent bar) concepts are trendy these days, but it's rare to find a place that fills its whole indoor floor with actual gravel like this.

With every step, the crunch of gravel underfoot gave off that distinct feeling of being out camping somewhere far away, or stepping into an old-school pojangmacha.
It felt like grilling meat at an outdoor barbecue spot on a trip, far from the stuffy city — and my mood was already lifted before I'd even eaten anything. It was a healing atmosphere that instantly washed away the fatigue of a tired commute home.
180g for ₩9,900 — how much is Korean raw pork belly here?

Looking at the menu, I had to double-check my eyes. The signature raw samgyeopsal was 180g per serving for just ₩9,900 — is that not insane value in this era of sky-high prices?
These days, a single serving at most restaurants usually starts at ₩15,000-18,000, so being able to enjoy raw pork belly at such a kind price had me moved before I'd even taken a bite. As a well-known Pyeongnae pork belly restaurant, it's genuinely impressive that they nailed both price and quality.

We ordered three servings of raw samgyeopsal. I'd secretly worried that the low price might mean lower-quality meat, but that worry was pointless — the meat's bright pink freshness and thick cut were honestly a work of art.

Once the thick slices of pork belly hit the sizzling hot grill plate, the sizzling sound and savory meaty aroma hit my nose, and being hungry, it was truly hard to resist. Taking a bite of the nicely browned pork belly, the outside was crispy and the inside burst with juicy, tender meat, its savory flavor spreading through my mouth with every chew.

What's the basic banchan spread like?
Don't assume that a ₩9,900 price tag means a skimpy basic spread. The real reason this place is such an amazing hidden gem lies in its generous banchan (side dish) lineup. Fresh, cleanly kept lettuce along with the essentials for eating meat — garlic, salt, and ssamjang (thick dipping sauce) — are all neatly laid out.

On top of that, there's a tangy-spicy scallion sauce that cuts through the meat's richness and pickled chili that keeps your palate refreshed, both included as standard. Wrapping grilled pork belly in that savory scallion sauce, or pairing it with a slice of pickled chili, kept the meat going endlessly without ever feeling greasy.

Thanks to how well the basic side dishes hit the spot, the flavor of the meat felt even more elevated.
Han-don kimchi jjigae and finishing fried rice
While busily grilling the pork belly, we also ordered han-don (Korean pork) kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) and rice as our meal. The moment the stew hit the table, a spicy, deep broth aroma filled the air.
Scooping into the stew with a spoon revealed Korean-raised pork, tofu, and well-fermented kimchi packed into the earthenware pot — a hearty, satisfying find. The stew, simmered thoroughly, was rich yet spicy, and mixing it into the rice made for an absolute rice-thief of a dish.
The combination of the meat's savoriness and the stew's spiciness was truly a winning pair. No matter how full you are, you simply can't skip the meal's ultimate finale — fried rice, right?

The finishing fried rice, made by stir-frying the leftover banchan and sauce in the fat left from the grilled meat, offered the fun of forming a crispy crust right on the grill plate. Watching the savory, sweet-and-spicy fried rice sizzle away on the plate, I couldn't put down my spoon even though I was already stuffed.
Final verdict and would I return
This was a perfect, satisfying meal that lacked nothing — not in taste, price, portion, or atmosphere. If you're in Pyeongnae-dong, Namyangju, looking for ultimate value pork belly, or want to enjoy delicious meat and a drink while soaking in a quirky gravel-camping vibe right in the city, I wholeheartedly recommend Jagaljip Pyeongnae, a leading Pyeongnae pork belly restaurant!
It's a place where you can truly feel ₩9,900 worth of happiness, so I'm planning to come back soon with friends.
