Mapo burger restaurant with hot chicken and thick pickles: Quokka Bite
In short
Quokka Bite is a handmade burger restaurant in Mapo, Seoul. We shared avocado smash and Nashville hot chicken burger sets, with juicy patties and especially crisp, thick pickles. Verdict: order different burgers and trade bites.

A small handmade burger restaurant in Mapo
I was craving a handmade burger in Mapo, so I went to Quokka Bite (쿼카바이트). It was not far from the station and easy to find.
The restaurant is small and cozy. There are five two-person tables indoors and two four-person tables on the outdoor terrace. My husband and I visited together and took a seat inside. A few guests were already eating or waiting after ordering!

Two burger sets chosen at the kiosk
You can order at the kiosk right by the entrance. After looking over the menu and debating whether to get single items or sets, I ordered the Avocado Smash Quokka Burger Set and my husband ordered the Nashville Quokka Hot Chicken Set.

Once we ordered and sat down, the owner started making the burgers right away. They are made fresh after each order comes in. I heard the owner trained at Le Cordon Bleu, so I was curious about the burgers before they even arrived!
While we waited, I looked at the Australia photos on one wall and the quokka plushies around the restaurant. I am not really into plushies, but I wanted this quokka one, haha. True to the name Quokka Bite, there were quokkas everywhere.

Pick up your order, then use the self-service desk
A little later, they called our order number and we picked up the food at the pickup counter. You can take anything else you need, including napkins, wet wipes, gloves, and ketchup, from the self-service desk.

A great pairing of avocado and a juicy patty
As soon as we got the food, the burgers looked so generously piled up, just like a picture!! They look even more impressive in person!! Mine was the Avocado Smash Quokka Burger. I have always really loved avocado, so I chose it the moment I saw it on the menu!

You can see there is plenty of avocado even in the photos, but when I tried it, the avocado was soft and the patty was especially delicious. The patty was juicy and moist with every bite, not dry at all. It was so big that I could not fit it all in one bite, haha.
The soft avocado and juicy patty went really well together. The avocado did not overpower it, and I could still taste the meatiness of the patty, so I enjoyed it.
Hot chicken with standout thick pickles
I also tried a bite of my husband's Nashville Quokka Hot Chicken, and the pickles were what caught my eye.

Pickles in burgers are usually thinly sliced, but these were thick. They were almost like whole pickles, so their crunch really came through with the chicken. The tangy, crunchy pickles paired nicely with the thick chicken. Personally, I really liked this pickle combination.

My husband said this was the best handmade burger he has had in Korea.
My husband enjoyed the Nashville Quokka Hot Chicken too, and he especially liked the pickles in the chicken burger. I preferred the Avocado Smash Quokka Burger, while my husband liked the Nashville Quokka Hot Chicken more. Ordering different items and trading bites meant we could try both burgers, haha.

Thick-cut fries and a review event
The fries that came with the sets were the thick-cut kind. They had more bite than thin fries, which made them nice to eat with the burgers.

We also received a hash brown and a hand fan through the review event. With two burgers, fries, and a hash brown, it was enough for two people.
I visited Quokka Bite while looking for handmade burgers in Mapo. If you go as a pair, I think it would be nice to order different burgers like we did and share them! I recommend these two flavors!! If it were near my home, I think I would visit oftenㅠ
