Apgujeong hair salon volume magic perm for stubborn curls: Biorn Hair

Maybe it's the change of seasons, but my hair's been getting frizzier and frizzier, and no matter how much I fix it in the morning it just looks messy — so hard to style ㅠㅠ I have naturally curly hair too, so it's been bugging me how unkempt it looks. So this time I went to Biorn Hair Apgujeong Rodeo and got a volume magic perm!

I got it done by designer Hyunbin, who specializes in severe curls and straightening perms, and the result was exactly the calm, natural style I wanted, so let me share the review :)

Where is Biorn Hair Apgujeong Rodeo, and what is the salon like?

Biorn Hair Apgujeong Rodeo is located near Exit 6 of Apgujeong Rodeo Station! Being close to the station made it easy to get to by public transport, and I think even first-time visitors could find it without much trouble haha.

Walking in, the whole place felt clean and modern. It was done up in white and silver tones, which made the salon itself look really fresh and tidy :)

Hair before the perm: seasonal dryness and curl

With the change of season, my hair had gotten quite dry and the curl made the whole thing look pretty frizzy. Especially from the mid-lengths to the ends, it just wouldn't stay tidy — no matter how much I brushed it out when it was down, it always looked kind of messy ㅠㅠ

But I didn't want a stick-straight magic perm either, so I told them I wanted the curl tamed while keeping some natural volume.

This time I got the treatment from designer Hyunbin, who specializes in severe curls and straightening perms! Before starting, I told her what usually bothered me about my hair and what style I wanted. She said that rather than just flattening the curl completely, she'd keep volume where needed for the style I wanted while tidying everything up overall haha.

A volume magic perm can go wrong and end up looking too flat and unnatural if it's not done right. That's why I wanted a straightening specialist for this, and going over the direction together during the consultation put me at ease :)

How the volume magic perm went, plus the drink service

On to the volume magic perm itself! From applying the solution to the waiting period, everything was handled carefully step by step.

A volume magic perm takes quite a while by nature, but designer Hyunbin kept chatting with me comfortably in between, so the time passed faster than I expected lol.

They also had drinks ready to enjoy during the treatment — I could choose from americano, orange juice, peach iced tea, green tea, or rooibos tea!

I went with the cold rooibos tea, and they even gave me some simple snacks to go with it, which was nice to have during the long treatment haha.

And finally, done!! Comparing it to the before photos, the difference was really clear lol. Before the treatment, the curl and dryness made my hair stick out here and there, giving the whole silhouette a slightly messy look.

After the volume magic perm, all that frizz was completely smoothed out and the hair itself looked much calmer! And it wasn't flattened down to my head either — the volume up top was kept naturally, which I liked even more :)

Especially at the ends, it wasn't stretched out stick-straight but fell naturally, which matched exactly the style I wanted. My hair also looked much shinier than before and neater overall — the difference was even more obvious from behind haha.
