Sillim Indian restaurant Set C chicken makhani for two: India Darbar

This was a self-funded visit, paid for out of my own pocket.

You know that feeling when you're watching YouTube and suddenly crave exactly what's on screen? A YouTuber I sometimes watch was eating Indian curry, and that day I just couldn't let it go, haha. So off I went to India Darbar (인디아 더르바르), a Sillim spot! We ordered the Set C for two and chose chicken makhani for the curry. We went for the curry but came back completely won over by the naan. Such a right call, haha.

Where India Darbar is and where to park

India Darbar is close to Sillim Station, so it wasn't hard to find. The name is written large on a red sign that really catches your eye. Parking is available and they cover 1 hour of parking fees. If you're driving, it's best to check with the restaurant beforehand about where exactly to park.

India Darbar's exotic mood the moment you walk in

Walking into India Darbar, the red walls and colorful decorations caught my eye first. It's actually run by people from India, so even before the food arrived, I found myself getting more excited, haha.

From the little objects by the window to the decorations on the walls, there was plenty to look at. It felt like I'd come out for something different from my usual meal.

Even the cups matched the vibe of the place, right? Little details like that kept catching my eye, and I kept snapping photos.

And the surprisingly important part — the restroom! It's inside the restaurant, so no need to step outside, which was convenient.

New to Indian food? Start with India Darbar's Set C

India Darbar's Set C is a meal for two, made up of soup + chicken tikka + curry + rice + naan + 2 drinks. We chose chicken makhani (butter chicken) for the curry.

At an Indian restaurant, even the menu names can feel a little unfamiliar. Here, having a set menu means you don't have to agonize over each dish. Personally, I liked being able to try several things at once. If you're curious about Indian food but stuck on what to order, this kind of set is worth keeping in mind when you're looking for a good Sillim restaurant.

Starting light with the soup

The first course of Set C is soup. We started the meal with it. It was a nice spoonful before diving into the curry and chicken properly. Rather than everything arriving at once, I liked starting this way with soup — sipping it while looking forward to what's next, haha.

Chicken tikka is best with the sauce or curry

Next up was the chicken tikka. The reddish chicken came with sauce and lemon. You can definitely taste the distinctive Indian spices.

But for my taste it wasn't overwhelming at all — if anything, I liked it for being so different from the fried chicken I usually eat.

Chicken tikka is good on its own, but dipping it in the sauce or curry that came with it was even better! Dipping the same dish in sauce, then in curry, made eating it so much more fun. I especially loved it paired with the curry, haha.

Sides worth nibbling between bites

The side dishes that came along were surprisingly tempting too. Some were refreshing, others brought a spicy kick. They were great to pick at in between bites of curry and naan. They looked pretty lined up in their little bowls, too, so I took quite a few photos.

The curry pick: chicken makhani, or butter chicken

Doesn't that white swirl on top of the curry look amazing? Looking at the photo again makes me want to dunk a piece of naan right in, ugh. We ordered chicken makhani that day, and it went well both with the chicken tikka and with the naan.

Looking at it all laid out like this, I was glad we ordered the set. Taking a bite of chicken, then curry, going back and forth, was genuinely fun.

Rice came along too, so we could enjoy both rice and naan. But honestly, that day my hand kept reaching for the naan way more than the rice.

The favourite of the day: nutty, chewy naan

I have to talk about India Darbar's naan. It was seriously, seriously nutty and chewy — so good! I cut it into easy bites and thought, 'ah, this is why naan goes with Indian curry,' haha. It was great with the curry, and great on its own too, so I kept reaching for more. It's not that the rice was bad — the naan was just exactly my type.

Write a receipt review, get one more naan

If you love naan, take note of this! When I visited, there was an event where writing a Naver receipt review got you an extra piece of naan. If you fall for the naan like I did, this could be a nice perk, haha. Please double-check whether the event is still running and its conditions when you visit.

A sudden craving, and a very good meal at India Darbar

It was a spontaneous craving for Indian curry sparked by a YouTube video, but after eating, I thought, 'I'm glad I came here today!' It's easy to find near Sillim Station, and ordering the set meant less agonizing over the menu. The chicken tikka wasn't overwhelming with spice for my taste, and above all, that nutty, chewy naan keeps coming to mind. On a day when I want something different from usual, India Darbar will be the Sillim restaurant that comes to mind. Next time too, I'd love to go back for curry with naan on the side, haha.
