Friday night Peking duck dinner at Time Villas Suwon: Mirim Yangjang

In short

Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch is a Chinese restaurant on the third-floor dining level of Time Villas, connected to Suwon Station. Having never tried Peking duck before, Soon-i booked by phone, arrived on a Friday evening, and ordered the Peking duck set (half duck + 2 meals + 1 drink), choosing jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) for both meals for an extra 2,000 won. The lean meat tasted clean and the skin was pleasantly chewy, making Mirim Yangjang an easy place for a first Peking duck.

One of the biggest changes as I've gotten a bit older is that my food range has widened, and one dish that recently landed on my radar was this — haha — a dish I'd always been curious about but never actually got around to eating. Peking duck.

Hahahaha, what a visual, right?!

Honestly, that look never really made me want to try it before, and since I like pork, beef, and especially chicken way more than duck, duck just never made it to the top of my list — haha. But you know how there's suddenly a moment when you get fixated on one specific food?! That moment hit me now.

But finding a good Peking duck spot is tricky, and I figured if my first taste of Peking duck wasn't delicious, I'd probably never think about it again — so I looked around for the best place. Turns out there's already a famous one! 📍Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch, already well known as a Suwon Station favorite.

How to find Mirim Yangjang on the third floor of Time Villas Suwon

Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch is on the 3rd floor dining area of Time Villas. Coming through the passage that connects to Suwon Station and the transfer center, I took the escalator right in front of me up to the 3rd floor, went straight, and found it right away — haha.

This was my first time at Time Villas too, and it's pretty big! Third floor is the spot!

Ooh, the bright red exterior really stands out, so it's easy to find!

And those Peking ducks hanging there are totally eye-catching — haha. My heart's racing before I even meet the Peking duck, hehe.

The sign mentioning the chef's background at The Shilla Hotel really catches the eye!!! Expectations rising even more — haha.

Friday evening wait, phone reservation, and inside Mirim Yangjang

Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch has quite a lot of seating and group seating is available too. I visited on a Friday evening and was a little surprised there wasn't much of a wait!

Restaurants inside shopping centers like this usually have cramped seating or feel a bit chaotic, but here it felt like walking into a proper standalone restaurant! Totally recommended if you're looking for a group meetup spot at Time Villas. Though to be fair, everywhere in Time Villas seemed pretty relaxed that day too~?!

Mirim Yangjang menu: what comes in the Peking duck set

Mirim Yangjang's Peking duck set includes half a Peking duck, 2 meals, and a drink. You order through the QR code on the table.

And even though it's known as a Peking duck spot, this is actually a Chinese restaurant — well, of course, Peking duck is Chinese cuisine as the name suggests?! Haha. So I ordered the set.

The set menu here in particular is such good value there's no reason not to order it!! The Peking duck set includes ✔️ half a Peking duck ✔️ 2 meals (jjamppong has an extra charge) ✔️ and a drink, which was perfect for the two of us~ Ordered the Peking duck set via QR~! Anticipation Maxxx...

How did a first-ever Peking duck taste?

Mirim Yangjang's Peking duck is eaten wrapped in a tortilla with vegetables. My conclusion after trying Peking duck for the very first time: it was lighter than expected, making it an easy dish to get into.

Ahh, my very first Peking duck in life!! You just wrap it in the tortilla, add vegetables and the duck, and yum.

At first glance it looks like fairly ordinary duck meat — haha. But somehow it tastes lighter, if that makes sense!? So it turned out to be easier to get into than I expected! I thought the name felt so distant and intimidating, but once I actually tried it, it was a lighter-tasting duck than I imagined! If you like skin, the chewy texture will win you over even more!

Swapping the set meals for jjamppong costs 2,000 won more

I swapped the meal option in the set for jjamppong, and choosing two jjamppong added ₩2,000! But I just couldn't give up the Peking duck and jjamppong combo~

Here's the full Peking duck spread with jjamppong — haha. Since the jjamppong is part of the set meal option, I wondered if it'd be small!? I even considered ordering the large size, but there was no need to worry — it's just regular jjamppong size!

Add the sauce and cucumber, wrap it in the tortilla, yum 😆 Eating it wrapped like that was surprisingly filling!? I tried it that way, then with scallion shreds too, and picked up my own way of enjoying Peking duck, hehe.

My friend has eaten quite a bit of Peking duck before and said Mirim Yangjang's was delicious, so I felt oddly proud for picking this place~~ Plus the jjamppong had that spicy-yet-light flavor that paired so well with the Peking duck! One bite of jjamppong, one wrap of Peking duck, yum~ But eating it really confirmed you've got to go to a place that knows what it's doing~~ Mirim Yangjang, good job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
