Seokchon Lake udon spot with squid rice bowl: Haengbokhan Udon Gage
In short
Haengbokhan Udon Gage Seokchon Lake Branch is a 24-hour udon and bunsik (Korean snack food) restaurant at 90 Samhaksa-ro in Songpa, Seoul. For a late dinner the writer ordered fish cake udon, charcoal-grilled squid rice bowl and boiled dumplings, and nearly emptied all three thanks to the clear broth, plump noodles and smoky squid. On this second visit, Haengbokhan Udon Gage proved to be a neighborhood restaurant that works for a meal or a drink after a walk around Seokchon Lake.

A second visit to the 24-hour udon spot by Seokchon Lake
Haengbokhan Udon Gage Seokchon Lake Branch is a 24-hour udon restaurant on Samhaksa-ro in Songpa. A neighborhood udon place I found nearby, and so close to Seokchon Lake too — total win. Honestly this is my own personal neighborhood favorite, so this is actually my second visit haha.

I was craving a late-night meal in the evening and Haengbokhan Udon Gage being open 24 hours was such a plus.

Being 24 hours must be great for anyone who likes to drink too! You know that feeling when a late-night craving hits and you suddenly want warm broth or rice? Perfect to just run over then.

Inside Haengbokhan Udon Gage: can you hold a group dinner here?
The inside of Haengbokhan Udon Gage Seokchon Lake Branch was really clean and I loved that. It was evening and lots of people were drinking, but the vibe wasn't overly loud. If you're in Jamsil looking for a group drinking spot or a company dinner venue, I'd totally recommend Haengbokhan Udon Gage!

Already a lively drinking atmosphere by then. With nice weather at Seokchon Lake, it also seemed like a great spot to walk around and then come drink together as a group.

With such a strong retro vibe, even the menu board has that retro feel. Something about it brings back memories of an old-school bowl of udon, you know? And on top of that, the prices are so reasonable it makes it easy to come without much burden! Even I, who can't drink, could just come here for the food (it's genuinely delicious).

They're also running a Naver review event, so make sure to join in! And if you like drinking, apparently they give out drinks as part of the event too — isn't that such a great event?
The menu and the self-serve banchan bar
The menu looks simple but is actually pretty varied. True to the name, there are all kinds of udon, plus pork cutlet and squid rice bowls that make a solid meal, and dishes like duruchigi (stir-fried spicy pork) and honey tomatoes that work great as drinking snacks too — good for both a meal and drinks.

The basic banchan are kimchi and pickled radish, with a self-serve bar available if you need more. The kimchi was pretty tasty too, good to keep eating alongside the udon.

Fish cake udon, squid rice bowl and dumplings ordered together
We ordered three things: fish cake udon, charcoal-grilled squid rice bowl, and boiled dumplings. Isn't this just the perfectly balanced order?
I really recommend this combo as an absolute winning combination 🩶

Boiled dumplings (mul mandu)
First off, my soul food = dumplings. And I love boiled dumplings — these have exactly that old-school Chinese restaurant vibe, and they're genuinely the best. They're small so they're easy to eat, and they were just really good overall.
Small but packed with flavor, and the juices inside are amazing. The size and taste seem perfect for kids too, so I'd definitely recommend ordering them as a side!!!

Charcoal-grilled squid rice bowl
Second up is the charcoal-grilled squid rice bowl. Truly a visual that matches the name, and the moment it arrives, that smoky charcoal smell is the best. My mouth was watering the second it hit the table.

And above all, the amount of squid piled on top in sauce was more generous than expected. Plus they add roasted seaweed flakes on top — such a thoughtful chef,, and even the sauce itself is on point, so mixing it all together works out really well.

I'm sensitive to spicy food, so biting into a chili pepper by accident was a bit much, but if you steer clear of the peppers it's genuinely delicious and pairs great with the udon too! The onions were also cut nice and chunky, which is exactly my style.

Fish cake udon
And now, the main event — the udon! There were lots of udon options, and we went with the fish cake udon! That broth is so incredibly good. Lots of noodles, nice and chewy — it really has that street food cart udon feel, absolutely the best.

Just look at how plump those noodles are!!! Genuinely so good. And the noodles are really chewy and nicely salty — not that instant udon taste at all, it was genuinely delicious.

Since it's fish cake udon, there's a big piece of fish cake in the middle, which almost feels like eating fish cake soup and udon at the same time — such a two-birds-one-stone kind of dish.

Is Haengbokhan Udon Gage good with kids? Aprons and high chairs
Haengbokhan Udon Gage Seokchon Lake Branch has self-serve aprons and baby chairs, so it seems great for a casual lunch or weekend meal out with kids too. The owner was also super kind, so I felt good the moment I walked in.
Ate so well and had such a great time. We basically licked all three bowls clean•• Guess I'll be back again?~~

And at the very end I noticed a 10% discount for delivery riders! Felt like such a warm, nice gesture so I snapped a photo!! If you're looking for a great restaurant or drinking spot near Seokchon Lake, this is a total recommendation.
