Where is Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu in Jangyu, and is it open during Chuseok?

Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu in Jangyu, Gimhae, sits right along the road with easy access and plenty of nearby parking, making it a perfect stop for a weekend date or family meal. The moment I stepped inside, what struck me first was how neat and clean the interior was — no fishy or off smells at all.

There's especially good news here! The restaurant stays open with no closures throughout this year's Chuseok holiday! I thought it'd be perfect for clearing your stomach with a light, refreshing clam broth after too much rich holiday food, or for a family meal with relatives who've come down for the holidays.

The tables were spaced generously enough that you could focus comfortably on your meal without worrying about the people next to you. The seasoning containers and utensils on the tables were spotless too, which really appealed to me since I care a lot about cleanliness. There's also a bar table that's great for solo dining.
🍲 Menu and prices at Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu: what we ordered

The signature dish at Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu is, without question, the dongjuk kalguksu packed with dongjuk clams! Both the price and portion are pretty appealing.
- Dongjuk Kalguksu (per person): ₩9,000
- Ohnakse Seafood Pancake: ₩15,000
- Rice: Free
Given how prices are these days, a bowl of kalguksu loaded with dongjuk clams for ₩9,000 is genuinely great value. We ordered two servings of the noodle soup, plus the essential side dish — the ohnakse seafood pancake.
🐚 Dongjuk clam kalguksu, 9,000 won: plump clams in a clear, refreshing broth

After chatting for a bit, the steaming dongjuk kalguksu finally arrived, generously piled in a big bowl. As soon as I got it, the fragrant, refreshing scent of clams wafted up and my mouth started watering instantly!
I took a spoonful of the broth first, and it wasn't the artificial savoriness of MSG — it was a deep, natural seafood broth flavor that came straight from the dongjuk clams themselves. The clean, refreshing taste made it impossible to put my spoon down.

The noodles had just the right thickness with a springy, chewy texture that had really soaked up the broth's flavor. Especially the dongjuk clams inside were perfectly cleaned of sand — not a single gritty bite — and they popped in my mouth with a savory sweetness that was simply excellent! It felt like getting both great chewiness and great flavor at once.
🦑 Ohnakse seafood pancake, 15,000 won: crisp edges packed with seafood

Then came the ohnakse seafood pancake, which pairs perfectly with kalguksu. As the name suggests, it's generously loaded with squid, octopus, and shrimp, and it caught my eye visually right away!
Fried to a golden brown, it was the textbook definition of crispy on the outside, moist on the inside — crunchy like a cracker on the surface and tender within. Taking a bite with the seafood, the chewiness of the squid, the springiness of the shrimp, and the savory octopus all came together in my mouth.

It wasn't overly greasy and stayed light, so I could enjoy every last crispy piece without feeling heavy. If you visit Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu, I highly recommend ordering this ohnakse seafood pancake alongside your noodles!
🍚 Fresh geotjeori kimchi and the free bowl of rice in the leftover broth

One of the most important things at a kalguksu restaurant is the kimchi, right? The geotjeori (fresh unfermented kimchi) at Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu had a spicy yet crunchy texture, and piled on top of the light, refreshing kalguksu noodles, it was truly a perfect combination.

And here's a huge perk unique to this place: the rice is provided free of charge. Order it through the tablet at your table and they'll bring it over promptly.

After finishing all the noodles, stirring rice into the rich leftover dongjuk broth and topping it with a piece of crunchy geotjeori is the most perfect way to end the meal. It's such a thoughtful touch that leaves both big eaters and date-night couples fully satisfied.
