Looking for a brunch café to visit with a 2-month-old

Since giving birth, eating out with my husband hasn't been as easy as before. Nice individual restaurants especially were off-limits because I kept worrying the baby might suddenly fuss or cry, and I'd feel everyone's eyes on us..!

But I really wanted Western food for once, so while searching for a place I could bring a 2-month-old, I found a brunch café inside Times Square.

I found out while searching for Yeongdeungpo brunch cafés that Times Square has stroller rentals and a nursing room, so it was perfect for visiting with a baby. On the day of the visit, I checked the baby's feeding schedule in the morning and booked a reservation timed to her nap. *Same-day reservations are possible on weekdays!

Where Mela Times Square is and how to reserve a table

Mela is on the 1st floor of Times Square. It's easy to find since it's right across from the H&M store.

I arrived a bit early for my reservation, so I browsed baby clothes at H&M before heading over at the right time. There were a lot of cute long-sleeve bodysuits, so if you're shopping for newborn fall clothes, it might be worth stopping by too haha.

Business hours are daily from 10:30 to 22:00. You can make a same-day reservation through Naver Place, so there was no need to wait in line, and I could time the visit around the baby's feeding schedule. For parking, if you use the Times Square parking lot, the first 30 minutes are free, and you get parking coupons for 30 minutes with ₩20,000 spent, 1 hour with ₩30,000, and 2 hours with ₩50,000 — just so you know!

Right across from the restaurant there are men's and women's restrooms and lockers, so you can store your shopping bags and eat comfortably. When you're moving around with a baby, convenience of the route matters a lot, and this Yeongdeungpo restaurant has good facilities.

What the atmosphere at Mela is like with a baby

As soon as I walked in, I felt how open the space was. The high ceilings made it feel airy rather than cramped. There were large windows to look out from, and visiting on a weekday afternoon meant sunlight was pouring in, making the atmosphere one of the best among Times Square restaurants.

Above all, it wasn't too loud or too quiet. With a moderate level of chatter around, I didn't feel self-conscious bringing a 2-month-old. Most seats are for 2 or 4 people, so it also seems good for couples on a date or friends meeting for lunch. Note that on weekends and holidays, table use is capped at 2 hours!

There's a wide range of Western dishes from steak to pasta gnocchi and pizza, all priced in the ₩20,000s. For drinks, beer and wine are available, along with coffee, ade, and tea to go well with brunch! Adults, except preschool children, are required to order one menu item each.

Rose corn gnocchi, 22,000 won

What I ordered that day was the rose corn gnocchi and the pumpkin gorgonzola pastry pizza. First up, the rose corn gnocchi at ₩22,000.

With the creamy rose sauce, it looks quite red, but it wasn't as spicy as expected, so it was easy to eat without any worry.

The potato gnocchi was soft yet chewy, and the corn kernel topping had a nice pop, making the texture fun when eaten together with the gnocchi.

The portion is about one pasta serving, and since it's a familiar rose flavor, I think it's something anyone would enjoy regardless of who you visit with.

Pumpkin gorgonzola pastry pizza, 24,000 won

Pumpkin gorgonzola pastry pizza. It was priced at ₩24,000. The reason I came to this Yeongdeungpo Times Square restaurant? Honestly, I suggested coming here because I wanted to eat this.

Instead of a regular pizza dough, it's pastry, so it has a light, crispy texture — once you've had it, you can't help but want it again..

It was topped generously with yellow, fluffy roasted pumpkin and cheese, cut into 6 slices total! The size is similar to an M-size from a dedicated pizza chain.

The moistness of the cheese and pumpkin pairs really well with the crispiness of the pastry. It comes with cinnamon powder and honey on the side, and dipping it in that feels like eating dessert — almost like a crispy hotteok (sweet Korean pancake)!

It's savory with a gentle sweetness, so I kept reaching for more. Since the flavor isn't strong or overwhelming, it seems like a good choice for a family meal out with kids too!

Is Mela worth it for a meal at Times Square with a baby?

Since starting parenthood, this was the first time I could have a relaxed brunch with my husband. Being inside Times Square meant I could easily use baby facilities, and unlike a regular restaurant, I could eat without feeling self-conscious. Even though we had to put the baby to sleep in the baby carrier to eat, I was still so grateful for that much..

The rose corn gnocchi at Mela, the Times Square restaurant I visited this time, was soft and chewy, and the pumpkin gorgonzola pastry pizza had a crispy dough with moist toppings that were delicious. Next time I plan to try the French toast and a brunch plate with a cup of coffee!!
