Today I stumbled onto a place by chance and came back completely blown away! Let me introduce a Sanbon Station restaurant that surprised me haha 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 It's Geobugi Dongne Gunpo Sanbon Branch (거북이동네 군포산본점).

Geobugi Dongne Gunpo Sanbon Branch is very close to Exit 2 or Exit 3 of Sanbon Station! I usually come out through Exit 3, the one by the bridge.

Can you pay with Onnuri gift certificates at Geobugi Dongne?

There are so many good restaurants around Sanbon Station, and get this — most places near Sanbon Station actually accept Onnuri gift certificates! Did everyone already know that?! Everyone's been busy topping up local Gyeonggi currency lately since it comes with a 10% bonus, and Onnuri certificates also give 10%, so why not use them?

Of course Onnuri certificates usually work at fewer places compared to other vouchers... so the fact that most of Sanbon Station accepts them is a huge advantage!!!!! Anyway, long story short, Geobugi Dongne accepts Onnuri certificates too!

When I saw Geobugi Dongne from a distance, I honestly thought it was a turtle-shaped lighthouse haha — it gave off the same vibe as Oido. Since it's newly opened, the exterior looked super shiny and new!

Once I walked in, the space was super spacious, there were private areas too, and it looked so clean — total couple-date vibes.

What's at the self-serve bar?

I got excited the moment I walked in haha. I didn't know there'd be a self-serve bar too, but there was seriously so much to eat there — sesame oil, salt, turmeric powder, rice cake, potato, shredded scallion, ssamjang, lettuce, pickled radish, and more.

It was a bit of a shame there was no myeongui namul (ramson greens)... but honestly there was already so much else to eat! And surprisingly, the potato and rice cake were absolute MVPs! Grilled up, they were soft and so delicious — I ended up grabbing a huge pile of rice cake later haha. Anyway, let me show you the menu!

Two burners: pork belly and spicy shabu-shabu at once

Isn't the menu lineup solid? Shabu-shabu and grilled meat together, what a combo! With two burners at the table, you get the blessing of hangover-curing soup and grilled meat all at once!

And the shabu-shabu was the real deal, just like a dedicated shabu-shabu place — bean sprouts, enoki mushroom, cabbage, even kalguksu (hand-cut noodles), it had everything. You could also choose whether to grill the thinly sliced Korean beef (hanwoo) or dip it into the shabu-shabu broth, which was such a great option.

Order minimums, table setting fee and how the aged pork belly tastes

For me, the grilled meat was way tastier, probably because it was so fresh. Oh yeah~ The first order has to be 500g or more, and after that, orders can be as small as 200g! Also there's a one-time table setting fee (+₩5,000) ㅠ, but the overall price was cheap enough that it didn't really sting. Oyeng~~

There's also a review event running right now — leave a review and you get either 100g of pork belly or a drink! We chose more pork belly haha.

The pork belly was genuinely so fresh! Apparently the name Geobugi Dongne (turtle village) comes from aging the meat for a long time — and whether it's really well-aged or not, the meat was both delicious and fresh!!!

A lot of other tables were also ordering the giant jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles), but we were already so, so, so full just from this one set that we had to tap out early haha.

Free soft-serve ice cream and coffee

Another thing that's such a nice touch here — the ice cream is currently free!!!!!! Soft-serve ice cream! There's fun in dispensing it yourself from the machine too, kids would definitely love it. There's also a coffee machine so the adults can enjoy something too (though apparently you have to drink it outside!). Still, isn't that such a great perk?!

Why Geobugi Dongne works for a group dinner or date near Sanbon Station

If you want to enjoy both spicy shabu-shabu and grilled pork belly, I highly recommend this place! And if you're after a clean, well-kept restaurant, I recommend it for that too!!!!
