Gunpo pork cutlet restaurant with a self-serve rice bar: Onjeong

Sanbon is where my family home is, and it is also close to my current workplace, so it is a neighborhood I pass through every day. The Sanbon academy district in particular is always full of energy, with lots of people looking for good restaurants at lunchtime. One place that had always made me curious because it was so busy whenever I passed by was Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch (온정경양식당 산본학원가점). It always seemed packed at lunch, so this time I tried visiting a little early for dinner. But even at that early dinner hour, the tables were nearly full. It seems to have become a popular Gunpo, Sanbon restaurant not just for lunch but for dinner too.

What about the location and parking?

Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch is located in front of Gwangjeong Elementary School in the Sanbon academy district, so it was easy to find from nearby. It is in a convenient spot for people who work in Sanbon or often visit the academy district, and I thought it would be a nice option for anyone looking for a solo lunch spot in Sanbon. The restaurant does not have its own dedicated parking lot, but the nearby Haengbok Public Parking Lot means visiting by car is not too inconvenient.

Neat tables and a lively atmosphere

When I went inside, the tables were neatly arranged, and since the place was nearly full at the time of my visit, the whole restaurant had a lively feel. Seeing so many diners even at an early dinner hour really made me think it must be a popular place. It did not feel awkward to eat alone, so I think it would suit anyone planning a solo lunch in Sanbon, and it also looked great for a hearty meal with friends or family.

When you enter, the kind owner lets you know to order at the kiosk. According to my coworkers, Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch is known for its old-school pork cutlet and spicy pork cutlet~

That day, I ordered the udon old-school pork cutlet set and the soba old-school pork cutlet set. Since you can enjoy pork cutlet with either udon or soba, choosing a menu was fun too. What I liked most, though, was the amount in the sets. Usually, you expect the noodles that come with a pork cutlet set to be more like a side portion, but Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang was not like that at all. Both the udon and soba were so generous that they felt like a full dish served alongside the cutlet rather than a side.

The little morning roll served alongside was also a treat with strawberry jam~

When you order pork cutlet, you get cream of mushroom soup, and the mushroom soup was absolutely fantastic! The mushrooms were especially large, and I really enjoyed it~ Outback, move over~

The old-school pork cutlet was really large too. It was on the thin side, but because it was so big, it was definitely not a small portion~ It was the kind of old-school pork cutlet flavor everyone, young and old, would love, and even my husband, who is normally a pork cutlet critic, gave it a thumbs-up haha.

I was especially satisfied with the udon

The udon old-school pork cutlet set comes with warm udon alongside the cutlet. It was even more satisfying because it had not only udon noodles but also plenty of yubu (seasoned fried tofu). Having warm broth and udon while eating the pork cutlet made for a great combination, and the portion was enough for a complete meal. The soba old-school pork cutlet set was also good, letting me enjoy light soba with crispy pork cutlet. Since the portions themselves were generous, I think even men with big appetites could leave full~

Have as much rice and side dishes as you like at the self-serve bar!

Basic side dishes are served first, but you can bring back more of anything you run short on, and best of all, rice is available. I had been curious about Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch because it is always busy at lunchtime. After visiting myself, I could see why it was nearly full even at an early dinner hour. The pork cutlet was tasty, but I especially liked the generous set portions, the substantial udon and soba, and the self-serve bar where you can have rice too. If you want pork cutlet in Sanbon and are looking for not only good flavor but also a hearty, good-value meal, this is a Sanbon pork cutlet restaurant I would recommend.
