Rainy-day naengmyeon platter for two at Pyeongtaek Station: Seoul

In short

Seoul Myeonok is a naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodle) restaurant near Pyeongtaek Station in Gyeonggi, run by the same family for three generations. On a rainy day the writer ordered a large pyongyang naengmyeon, a large bibim naengmyeon, and pork belly suyuk (boiled sliced pork), finding the pyongyang naengmyeon broth deep and not too bland with chewy noodles. Parking is tight near the station, so parking at AK Plaza is recommended — a genuinely good restaurant worth stopping at in Pyeongtaek.

Exterior of Seoul Myeonok near Pyeongtaek Station on a rainy day

I pass by Pyeongtaek Station often, and I heard there's a pyongyang naengmyeon place that's been run by the same family for three generations, so I went to check it out. It was pouring rain that day, but luckily the photos came out okay haha.

A naengmyeon specialty restaurant. Already giving off that genuinely-good-restaurant vibe haha.

Seoul Myeonok location, hours, and parking

It's right next to Pyeongtaek Station, about a 2-minute walk. Very close to the station.

Open daily 11:30–20:30, last order at 19:30. Break time is 3–4pm on weekdays, and 4–5pm on weekends.

Since it's near the station, there's no good parking spot around. I'd recommend parking at AK Mall. If you download the AK Plaza app, you can get a 3-hour free parking coupon!

An interior that feels warm and cozy

Neatly arranged tables inside Seoul Myeonok
Interior atmosphere of the old-school naengmyeon restaurant

Overall the interior has the comfortable, warm feel of an old-school naengmyeon restaurant. Rather than flashy or trendy decor, it felt neatly kept, like a genuine neighborhood favorite!! There were also some tables for drinking or eating alone. Each table has an ordering device, so you can just sit down and order comfortably.

Seoul Myeonok's naengmyeon types and menu

Seoul Myeonok menu board listing pyongyang and bibim naengmyeon

Pyongyang naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon are the signature dishes, and there's also braised beef short ribs, pork belly suyuk, beef bulgogi hot pot (for 2 or more), and galbitang. We ordered a large pyongyang naengmyeon, a large bibim naengmyeon, and pork belly suyuk.

Large pyongyang naengmyeon, noodles wonderfully chewy

Bowl of large pyongyang naengmyeon topped with garnish

This is the large pyongyang naengmyeon. Buckwheat noodles sit in broth, topped with thinly sliced meat, radish, yellow egg garnish, and chopped scallions.

Buckwheat noodles lifted with chopsticks

I cut it with scissors and took a bite, and it was really good. Pyongyang naengmyeon broth is usually mild and plain-tasting, but here it had a bit more seasoning and the broth was really deep. It was the best pyongyang naengmyeon I've had. And the noodles weren't the kind that snap easily — they were really chewy.

Plate of salty seasoned pollack sashimi

This seasoned pollack sashimi was salty and really tasty. Eating it alongside the noodles every now and then made a great combo.

Large bibim naengmyeon has a spicy sauce

This is the large bibim naengmyeon. Just looking at it, the spicy sauce was slathered on generously, instantly making my mouth water. On top were meat, radish, egg garnish, and sesame seeds, same as the pyongyang naengmyeon. And broth comes alongside it too! I kind of regretted not ordering it as a bibim from the start.

Noodles and meat lifted after mixing the bibim naengmyeon

I ate what my partner ordered — the meat was thick, and combined with the chewy noodles it was so delicious.

Pork belly suyuk is moist and clean-tasting

This is the pork belly suyuk (boiled sliced pork). It comes with soybean paste, chili peppers, garlic, and salted shrimp.

The glossy suyuk was sliced to a nice thickness, with a good balance of lean meat and fat. One bite was tender and clean-tasting, moist without any dryness. Pairing it with the garlic, chili, and soybean paste that came alongside made it even more delicious!!

Wrapping up

A table spread with pyongyang naengmyeon and suyuk together

After seeing it featured on Life of Masters episode 892, I understood why this place has lasted three generations. Overall, the pyongyang naengmyeon, seasoned pollack salad, bibim naengmyeon, and suyuk were all satisfying. The pyongyang naengmyeon especially wasn't too bland and had a deep broth flavor, so it seems like a good option even for first-timers trying pyongyang naengmyeon. The bibim naengmyeon's spicy sauce was really tasty, and with the suyuk added on, we had a hearty meal. This is a genuinely good restaurant, confirmed.

A cat encountered near the restroom door

And if you open the door to the restroom, there's a cat waiting there too. After a bowl of naengmyeon and some cat-watching, we headed back to Pyeongtaek Station. If you're stopping by Pyeongtaek, I highly recommend visiting Seoul Myeonok!!
