Lemon Earl Grey cookie at a Sinnonhyeon café: Something About Coffee

In short

Something About Coffee is a large dessert café occupying all three floors of a building on Gangnam-daero 102-gil, near Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Every indoor seat was taken on a weekend afternoon, so the visit moved to the terrace with a lemon Earl Grey cookie (6,800 won), peach cheesecake, hojicha choux milk tea and matcha cream cold brew, and the chewy lemon Earl Grey cookie was the clear favorite. The crowds at Something About Coffee make sense once the desserts arrive, and a return visit is already planned.

Day n of swearing off sugar. But a stress-induced dopamine shortage got the better of me, so I had some sugar.

Why is Something About Coffee near Sinnonhyeon Station full across all three floors?

Something About Coffee is a huge café on Gangnam-daero102-gil near Sinnonhyeon Station, taking up floors 1 through 3. Even with three whole floors, the place was... it was so, so crowded. The building was entirely theirs so there were plenty of seats, yet still — I'd heard it was famous for handmade desserts so I went, and ugh... I wandered around looking for a seat and finally landed on the terrace. But after tasting everything, I immediately understood why it's so popular. ☆

It's known for top-tier desserts and premium coffee, and honestly, it really was delicious. I'll be back!!

Inside the dessert showcase: scones, cookies, pound cakes and sando

Something About Coffee has an insane variety of desserts!!! Tons of scone types, plus crumbles, egg cookies, chocolate pudding cookies — honestly my eyes were spinning.

Honestly, you can just tell by looking whether something's going to be good or not. Here, everything looked delicious at a glance.

After some deliberation, I picked the lemon Earl Grey cookie! ₩6,800! That's Gangnam café cookie pricing for you, haha!

They also had lots of pound cakes and financiers. Scones, donuts, you name it — it felt like they had pretty much every dessert type covered. I liked that everything was hygienically covered with plastic domes.

Lemon pound cake, Earl Grey pound cake... my usual favorites ♡

Instead of a tray, you can just bring your dessert over on a plate.

Looked like they were pushing three latte types. I went with the matcha cream cold brew!

Of course they also had the fruit sando (fruit sandwich) that's trending right now. If I hadn't already been full, I would've gotten one of those too, haha.

The fruit sando flavors were fig, tangerine, and peach! Plus black sesame fig, chocolate fudge, yellow cheese, and lemon cake. It was so fun just looking at all of it, haha — honestly, if I hadn't eaten beforehand I think I would've been paralyzed with indecision, so I was glad I'd already had a meal.

Walnut dried persimmon cheese, Mont Blanc, fresh blueberry, peach cheesecake!!!!!! Walnut dried persimmon cheesecake isn't a common item, so that stood out — maybe because fall is coming?

Second floor of Something About Coffee: restrooms, water and tray station

Here's the view from the second floor of Something About Coffee — there's a chandelier, giving it a fancy-but-casual feel. Each floor seems to have a slightly different mood, but overall it's white brick with wood and stainless furniture, a pleasantly bright atmosphere! Restrooms are separated by gender, and I think there's an additional women's restroom on the third floor.

Cold water is self-serve. You can't leave trays here — take them to the second-floor counter! The staff were kind even though they must have been swamped, which made me happy.

Terrace seating at Something About Coffee: spacious and clean

Since seats were so hard to find, I ended up on the terrace. Something About Coffee's terrace was huge too, with a comfortable amount of space between tables.

Terrace seating with wide spacing between tables

The sun was blazing, which was actually nice. Still a bit hot, but manageable. A lot of terraces aren't well-maintained, but this one was pretty clean overall! I bet the terrace seats will be popular once fall arrives.

I ordered the peach cheesecake, lemon Earl Grey cookie, hojicha choux milk tea, and matcha cream cold brew!

Four desserts and drinks arranged on a terrace table

So gorgeous, just gorgeous... ☆ While I was busy taking photos, people who couldn't find a seat walked by going 'oh that looks so good,' haha, and left ㅠㅠ. Hope they found a table soon.

Two cups: hojicha choux milk tea and matcha cream cold brew

The hojicha cream was thick and delicious, and the slightly frozen vanilla ice sugar on top was seriously good.

The matcha cream was somewhere between a foam and a cream.

This thing is a total gem. The lemon and Earl Grey aromas are fragrant and the cookie is so chewy!!! Personally my favorite.

Seriously so good.

How the peach cheesecake tastes: light, not heavy

I'm not usually that into cheesecake, but this one was good too.

Peach cheesecake topped with peach slices

The peaches on top had just the right crunch, and the sweetness was well-balanced.

There's peach jam inside too!!! The cheesecake wasn't heavy at all. So good ㅠㅠㅠ

Highly recommend. I'll definitely go back.
