A takeout bakery near Byeollae Byeolgaram Station
I first heard about Byway Bakers' Wakkppu salt bread through a neighbor blogger's post. I looked up the shop because I was curious, and oh my gosh—it was practically right in front of me. How had I missed it all this time... honestly, I must have been blind with my eyes wide open.
It has an orange-toned sign, and it stands out this much—huh?! How did I not see it?! The shop is takeout-only.

The display is divided into two main rows. On one side were colorful Wakkppu salt breads, wrapped in fruit-net sleeves like fruit, plus cakes and things like dujjongku.

The display beside it had all sorts of baked goods, including financiers, salt bread, and egg tarts. There was also a goods section inside, where you could buy shopping bags and gift boxes.

They also have drinks to go with everything.

Fresh peach yogurt and financiers picked from the recommendations
I asked the staff what sold best, and they recommended the Wakkppu salt bread with fresh peach yogurt. Since it was my first time trying it, I took home one recommended Wakkppu salt bread, plus a five-piece assorted financier package with flavors I picked myself because I was curious.

The second I got home, I opened the peach Wakkppu first! ...Wow, wow, wowwwww. I immediately understood why it is so popular. Seriously delicious... Inside the savory salt bread were fresh peaches and yogurt cream, with a chocolate Wakkppu topping... the combination was so much better than I expected. (I am serious right now...) It was the kind of thing that made me think, “I need to buy this again,” while I was still eating it. Easily one of the best desserts I have had lately.

I had read that the financiers were on the dense, fudgy side, and they really, truly were. From the left: Oreo, almond chocolate, vanilla, pecan pie, and pistachio—and that was also my order of preference, haha. Anyway, the conclusion is... the Wakkppu salt bread was unbelievably good! And this is not the end...

The breads I bought again a few days later because I kept thinking about them
I... bought more today... haha. What am I supposed to do when I keep thinking about them? The fresh peach yogurt Wakkppu salt bread from my first visit had been way too good, so... a few days later, I ended up going back. Haha.

This time, I was curious what else would be good, so I properly stocked up on salt bread, an egg tart, Wakkppu salt bread with fresh blueberry yogurt, and Wakkppu salt bread with Chodang sweet corn.
Honestly, while eating the fresh peach yogurt a few days before, I had thought, “If this is this good, their plain salt bread must be good too, right?” So I made sure to pick up one plain salt bread this time...

How were the plain salt bread and egg tart?
Just as expected, haha—it was delicious. They say the salt bread is made with natural butter; the outside was nicely crisp, while the inside was soft and moist. It was not a flashy flavor, exactly, but it was faithful to the basics and made even tastier by the natural butter. The kind of bread where, once you start, you finish it all.
And the egg tart I had quietly debated getting... I am so glad I bought it, to the point that I wondered why I had hesitated. One bite, and the custard was unbelievably soft... Sweet, fluffy custard melted gently in my mouth, hahaha. Ah... so I really do like egg tarts...? 🤣 This is an egg tart gem in Byeollae... From now on, whenever I come here, I am absolutely getting one egg tart. Haha.

The Chodang sweet corn Wakkppu salt bread was packed with corn kernels, so the texture was so satisfying,

and the fresh blueberry yogurt version had big blueberries on top and plenty inside, too. The blueberries were sweet and went so well with the yogurt cream... What even is this place, seriously? Hahaha.
The more I tried one by one, the more certain I became: “Ah, this place is genuinely so good...” I thought only the Wakkppu salt bread would be good, but the plain salt bread was good, the egg tart was good, and every Wakkppu salt bread was good too... At this rate, I think I need to try every new flavor as it comes out, haha.

No wonder they make so many salt breads and egg tarts. If you are passing by nearby... please... stop in at least once!! I really, really recommend it, haha.
