Seongsu gomtang set for two, herring roe radish: Dwaeji Gomtang House
In short
Dwaeji Gomtang House Musinsa Mega Store Branch is a pork gomtang (pork bone soup) restaurant in the special pop-up zone of the 4th-floor food court at Musinsa Mega Store in Seongsu, Seoul. After shopping, a couple ordered one clear gomtang and one spicy gomtang, each arriving as a full table setting with herring roe radish, kimchi, salted shrimp, pickled chili and fruit for dessert. The clear soup tastes light and clean and the spicy one has a natural, gentle heat, which is why the writer has already been back 6-7 times.

Dwaeji Gomtang House Musinsa Mega Store Branch

How to walk from Seongsu Station to Dwaeji Gomtang House at Musinsa Mega Store
I went to Dwaeji Gomtang House Musinsa Mega Store Branch for a bowl of Seongsu's famous gomtang (pork bone soup). Musinsa opened a mega store in Seongsu-dong and the place is huge. I browsed my way up to the 4th floor, shopped a bit, then headed to the special pop-up zone in the food court where Dwaeji Gomtang House is located. It's about a 6-7 minute walk from Exit 3 of Seongsu Station.
There are plenty of good restaurants in Seongsu-dong, but a proper gomtang place is hard to find — Dwaeji Gomtang House is one I've already revisited 6-7 times (all on my own dime).

Dwaeji Gomtang House menu, prices and kiosk ordering
Dwaeji Gomtang House, a pork soup spot in Seongsu, serves clear pork gomtang and spicy pork gomtang made from broth simmered clear at low temperature and high pressure. There's also pyeongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), a seaweed soup set, minari-tot king mandu, and cold jeyuk (boiled pork). Upgrading the gomtang to a large size adds ₩3,000. You order and pay at the kiosk.
The herring roe radish comes standard, but adding extra costs ₩5,000! The minari-tot king mandu looks good too. Next time I'll come back for the cold jeyuk and the mandu. They even sell branded T-shirts?

[Order details]
All the staff at Dwaeji Gomtang House in Seongsu were kind, which made me happy. Taste matters, but kindness is unforgettable too! It's a great spot for a healthy meal.

The clear pork gomtang set, loaded with meat
We ordered both the clear gomtang and the spicy gomtang. Each comes as a full set with herring roe radish, kimchi kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), salted shrimp, pickled peppers, and fruit for dessert. Getting fruit too is such a nice touch.
The clear gomtang was much more to my taste personally, but my husband said the spicy one was better. The clear gomtang's broth is truly clear yet rich, and clean-tasting. There's no greasiness at all — it's hearty but refined. Best of all, the meat is generously piled in, which is what makes Dwaeji Gomtang House Musinsa Mega Store Branch such a good gomtang spot in Seongsu.

Why the herring roe radish is the star side dish
The meat is also really tender and savory. Grab a big piece with a bit of pickled pepper and it tastes even better.
Dwaeji Gomtang House, a gomtang specialist in Seongsu, serves herring roe radish on the side — chewy in texture, seasoning not too aggressive, seasoned just right. Best of all, the herring roe gives it a great popping texture and umami. Eating it with kimchi is nice too, but personally I think the radish is the key point here. They give you a generous portion so you don't even need to add more.

What does the spicy pork gomtang set taste like?
My husband ordered the spicy gomtang set. At Dwaeji Gomtang House Musinsa Mega Store Branch, the soup comes topped with tot (sea mustard) — good for you too! The spicy broth has real charm. It's spicy enough that it might even cure a hangover, with a naturally spicy kick rather than an artificial one.

Rice already in the soup, and is the portion enough?
The rice isn't served separately — since it's gukbap (soup with rice), it comes already mixed in, and it doesn't dull the broth's flavor at all. There's a fun bite to it, like barley is mixed in. The portion is quite generous, so you don't need to add extra rice.

Why Dwaeji Gomtang House is a good stop after shopping in Seongsu
It's the same gomtang with the same meat inside, but the seasoning makes it feel completely different. That's why I keep coming back. After finishing a bowl, I feel nourished, like I've done something good for my body. Finished off with a refreshing little slice of orange!
There's so much shopping to do in Seongsu-dong that after walking around all over, a hearty and healthy bowl of gomtang really hits the spot — so I gently recommend Dwaeji Gomtang House Musinsa Mega Store Branch. (See the map for location.)
