Osan Chinese restaurant lunch set for two, 48,000 won: Dami Sik

In short

Dami Sik is a Korean-Chinese restaurant in Nueup-dong, Osan, Gyeonggi, specialising in stone jjajang (black bean noodles served sizzling on hot stone) and dongpo pork (braised pork belly). A couple stopped in on the way down from Suwon, booked a lunch table and ordered the stone jjajang and dongpo pork set for 2–3 people at 48,000 won, along with the free self-serve fried-egg station. The set was so filling for two that they packed the remaining dongpo pork to take home.

Main shot of the Dami Sik stone jjajang and dongpo pork set in Osan

On the way home after a trip to Suwon with my husband, we heard there was a great stone jjajang place in Osan, so we stopped by Dami Sik (다미식). We'd booked ahead to match our route, and arriving right at lunchtime meant we got seated with zero waiting. This was our first time trying stone jjajang at a Nueup-dong restaurant, so I was excited from the start. If you're visiting during a busy stretch like lunch, reserving ahead like we did makes it much easier to fit into your schedule.

We parked in the open lot right beside the restaurant. It's not huge, but I'd guess it fits 5 or more cars, and we had no trouble parking. If your car sits low, watch out — the bottom might scrape!

Interior atmosphere of Dami Sik

Inside, Dami Sik felt more like a cozy Korean restaurant than the typical Chinese restaurant vibe. Even though they serve stone jjajang and dongpo pork, the space is friendly and unpretentious — it looked like a comfortable spot for a family meal too.

Is the 48,000 won stone jjajang and dongpo pork set too much for two?

Ordered set and a Sprite on the table

We ordered the stone jjajang + dongpo pork set for 2-3 people at ₩48,000, plus a Sprite. The set came with 2 bowls of rice included.

By the time we finished, the portion really was huge for two. The stone jjajang alone filled us up quite a bit, and we ended up packing the leftover dongpo pork to take home. If you two don't usually eat much, ordering à la carte might be worth considering instead.

Dami Sik side dishes and the free self-serve fried-egg station

Basic side dishes: pickled radish, green onion kimchi, cabbage salad

The basic side dishes were pickled radish, green onion kimchi, and a cabbage salad with kiwi dressing. The best match was the green onion kimchi — its sharp, spicy kick cut cleanly through the richness of the heavy jjajang and dongpo pork.

On one side there's a free fried-egg self-serve station, so we each fried our own.

I was trying to make a pretty sunny-side-up egg, but one yolk broke, so that one went to my husband haha. Cooking it exactly how you like was a nice little bit of fun while we waited.

We set the fried egg on top of the stone jjajang, broke the runny yolk over it, and ate it together — it added even more savory depth, and it was great!

Dami Sik stone jjajang: sizzling to the last bite

Dami Sik stone jjajang bubbling on the hot stone plate

The moment the stone jjajang arrived, I let out an involuntary "whoa!" The sauce was bubbling away on a hot stone plate, and staff mixed it evenly for us right at the start.

The charm of it is that the stone plate stays hot enough to keep everything sizzling right to the end! Toward the later part, the sauce can stick to the bottom, so we kept stirring it with the spatula they gave us.

Close-up of the dark, rich stone jjajang sauce

Osan-style stone jjajang has a slightly darker sauce than regular jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles), with a clear, deep savoriness. It's not overly salty, clings thickly to the noodles, and the sauce got even richer the longer it sat, so my chopsticks kept going back for more.

Chunky squid and vegetables in the stone jjajang

The chunky squid pieces were really generous too. The rings and legs had a firm, chewy bite, and mixed with corn, onion, and mushrooms, it felt like picking through a seafood jjajang with lots to discover. Each ingredient had a different texture, which kept the dish from feeling one-note.

What does Dami Sik's dongpo pork taste like? Are the spices strong?

Dami Sik dongpo pork served with bok choy

Dami Sik's dongpo pork came out as a thick cut of meat with rich sauce and bok choy on the side. The lean meat and fat were both wonderfully tender yet still had a bit of spring to them, and eating it with the sweet-salty sauce and bok choy together was a really nice combination.

The spice aroma wasn't strong, so even for us, trying dongpo pork for the first time, it felt easy to enjoy. It's a style that should be approachable for anyone trying Osan-style dongpo pork for the first time. The portion was so big we ended up packing the leftovers! It was great that they let us take home what we didn't finish! Just keep in mind the 2-3 person set is quite a lot for two people to finish.

The finish: mixing rice into the leftover jjajang sauce

After we'd finished most of the noodles, we mixed the rice from the set into the remaining sauce. Even though the sauce had reduced down on the hot stone, mixed with rice it wasn't too salty — the seasoning was just right. Adding a spoonful of squid and green onion kimchi on top brought in extra chewiness and a sharp bite, rounding out the meal perfectly.

Dami Sik in Osan: the one-line verdict

The finished table setting after the Dami Sik stone jjajang meal

Both my husband and I were trying stone jjajang and dongpo pork for the first time, and our first attempt was a hit! My husband kept saying how surprising and delicious it was, and we already talked about coming back. If you're looking for something different among Nueup-dong restaurants, or an Osan Chinese restaurant to bring the whole family to, Dami Sik in Osan works well whether it's a couple's date, a family outing with kids, or a meal with parents — go give it a try!
