Seoul City Hall café for white cream lattes: Lemangdoré

In short

Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun is a three-floor bakery café in Mugyo-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, between Seoul City Hall and Cheonggyecheon Stream. After a walk along Cheonggyecheon, I tried the white cream latte, iced Americano, and two plain financiers while looking around the seating on each floor. Verdict: the sweet cream latte and understated financiers made an especially good pairing.

A bakery café near City Hall Station for after a Cheonggyecheon walk

Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun (레망도레 광화문점)

If you are looking for a café to take a short break while walking around central Seoul, Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun is one worth noting. It sits in Mugyo-dong between Seoul City Hall and Cheonggyecheon Stream, making it easy to reach from City Hall Station and a natural stop while going between Gwanghwamun plans. I visited after walking around Cheonggyecheon, and the first thing I liked was being able to enjoy bread and coffee at an unhurried pace right in the middle of the city.

From the first-floor ordering area to third-floor seating

As soon as you step inside, Lemangdoré’s calm atmosphere begins in the first-floor ordering area. True to the brand introduction describing its aim as a neighborhood gathering place where bread, coffee, and a comfortable space come together, the bakery displays and seating flowed naturally into one another.

After choosing from the menu on the first floor, you can head upstairs to sit, and each floor offers slightly different views and moods, making it fun to choose your spot. Recent reviews say nearby office workers can fill the place at lunchtime, so if you want a quieter stay, I recommend avoiding the busiest time or checking the third-floor seats too.

Bread, sandwiches, and a menu to choose by taste

The bakery selection was more varied than I expected. From crusty breads to flaky pastries, baked sweets, and sandwiches, there was plenty to browse in one place, so you naturally end up choosing bread rather than coffee alone. I picked two plain financiers.

The breads on display came in all kinds of shapes and sizes, making them enjoyable to look over one by one. With sandwiches available too, the options seemed broad whether you are after a quick breakfast or a light lunch. If several people visit together, it would also be nice to choose different kinds and share them.

Beyond standard coffee, the drinks menu includes distinctive choices. The white cream latte topped with soft cream and the ice cream float served with ice cream are particularly considered signature items. You can choose your coffee beans according to your taste, and single-origin hand-drip coffee is available too, making it easy to order toward the acidity or nuttiness you usually enjoy.

White cream latte and financier pairing

That day, I chose a white cream latte, an iced Americano, and plain financiers. It was a combination that let me compare a sweet signature drink with a clean, straightforward coffee side by side.

The white cream latte first met the palate with smooth cream, followed by coffee underneath, giving even one sip plenty of texture. The cream was clearly sweet, but it did not completely cover the coffee, so it was nice to enjoy slowly like a dessert. The iced Americano played a refreshing palate-cleansing role and went especially well with the financiers. Since the two drinks have such different characters, it was also a good choice for ordering together when one person likes sweet coffee and another prefers something more understated.

The plain financiers had appetizingly baked exteriors, while the insides remained moist with a slightly chewy texture. A bite brought out buttery, nutty flavor first, and the sweetness did not come on too strongly, so they felt easy to have alongside coffee. They are baked treats focused on the basics without flashy toppings, so I would recommend them as a starting menu item if you are trying Lemangdoré’s bakery for the first time. Next time, I would like to order an ice cream float with another pastry too.

Taking a break between City Hall and Gwanghwamun

When you are looking for a café to visit after a meal around Seoul City Hall or need a place to rest during a Cheonggyecheon walk, Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun was practical both for its location and menu. Seoul City Hall, Cheonggyecheon, and even Gwanghwamun Square are all within walking distance, so it also works well alongside a Deoksugung Palace or Gwanghwamun itinerary. With varied bakery items, bean choices suited to your taste, and seating on different floors, it is a good fit for dates, meeting friends, or enjoying coffee alone. If you want to properly enjoy bread and coffee while sightseeing in central Seoul, this is a Gwanghwamun café worth remembering.
