Haenggung-dong family restaurant with a 3-year-old: Nonchalant Lounge

We visited Nonchalant Lounge for lunch while out and about in Haenggung-dong, Suwon with our 3-year-old. Haenggung-dong has tons of pretty cafés and small restaurants, but when you're with a baby, it's surprisingly hard to find somewhere with enough space to eat comfortably.

That's exactly why I liked Nonchalant Lounge so much. It's rare to find a restaurant this spacious in Suwon Hwaseong's Haenggung-dong, with generous gaps between tables, making it easy to visit as a family — and sure enough, there were quietly a fair number of other families with kids like us. We'd booked ahead through Naver Reservation.

Looking for Haenggung-dong brunch? Nonchalant Lounge won us over with its vibe alone

The moment you walk into Nonchalant Lounge, you can tell it's got way more atmosphere than expected. It has this calm, relaxed feel like a hotel lounge overall, and the table spacing isn't cramped at all, so it was comfortable to eat.

It clearly gets a lot of date and blind-date traffic too — I noticed quite a few tables with that kind of energy. That said, it didn't feel like an intimidating place to bring a kid. There were plenty of families around, so we felt totally at ease eating there with our 3-year-old.

And personally, I loved the music, haha. The screen in the restaurant kept playing exactly the kind of music I like on repeat, and it made the whole thing feel less like a regular lunch stop and more like properly enjoying Haenggung-dong brunch.

We also ordered a lemonade to go along with it all. Bottom line — our baby ate everything we ordered that day. Eating out with a toddler usually means at least one menu item flops, but she went for the risotto, the pasta, and the pizza all around, which alone made us parents pretty happy!

Crispy thin pizza, ₩18,000 — a crunchy bite between the heavier dishes

Nonchalant Lounge's crispy thin pizza is ₩18,000, and it was surprisingly the dish I kept reaching for. It's a light-style thin pizza with fresh toppings on a crispy tortilla base, a very different feel from a typical thick-crust pizza. Since the risotto and cream pasta were both on the heavier side, having the crunchy thin pizza in between worked really well. We also ordered a lemonade to drink alongside it all.

Bottom line — our baby ate everything we ordered that day. Eating out with a toddler usually means at least one menu item flops, but she went for the risotto, the pasta, and the pizza all around, which alone made us parents pretty happy!

Truffle bulgogi risotto, ₩18,000 — the dish our 3-year-old ate best

The first dish was the truffle bulgogi risotto, ₩18,000. It's risotto topped with seared bulgogi finished with a touch of truffle, served with a special cream sauce and perilla leaves.

The bulgogi-and-cream-risotto combo felt familiar but got a slightly more special edge from the truffle aroma. Eating it with perilla leaves on the side cut through the creaminess nicely, so the combo worked well. But most of all, this was the dish our baby ate the best. It's cream-based so it's soft, and since it's a rice dish, our 3-year-old ate it without any trouble.

Alfredo cream pasta with chicken thigh, ₩18,000

The alfredo cream pasta topped with chicken thigh is also ₩18,000. It's alfredo cream pasta with a rich cheese-and-milk flavor, topped with grilled chicken thigh.

Eating the thick, rich cream pasta together with the chicken thigh made it more filling than I expected. Pasta alone can feel a bit lacking, but having meat served alongside made it great for a family to order a few dishes and share. And this one was squarely aimed at our baby's taste too, haha — she ate the noodles, ate the chicken thigh, really cleared it out.

A Haenggung-dong brunch spot that worked well with a baby, too

Nonchalant Lounge has a wide range of Western dishes on offer, from brunch and pasta to steak, and in the evening it looks like a good spot to enjoy the atmosphere with a signature lemon draft beer, wine, or highballs. What I liked most, though, was the sense of space.

Haenggung-dong tends to have a lot of small-scale restaurants, so having a spacious place like Nonchalant Lounge made things relatively comfortable when visiting with a baby. Just from the vibe, it looks like a date or blind-date spot, but once you're actually there, families blend in naturally too — so it's a solid option if you want to eat with your kid somewhere with good atmosphere.

If you're tired of just hopping between cafés in Haenggung-dong, or looking for somewhere relaxed to eat after wandering Suwon Hwaseong, it's worth a visit. If you're after Haenggung-dong brunch with plenty of space, good atmosphere, and dishes that work for kids, I'd recommend Nonchalant Lounge :)
