Gangnam Station izakaya with Fukuoka-style mizutaki hot pot: Goko
In short
Izakaya Goko Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch is an izakaya on Bongeunsa-ro 2-gil in Gangnam, Seoul, between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station. The writer met her mom there for dinner and drinks after a dermatology appointment and ordered the daegwangeo sio sanhap (flounder wrapped in gimbap and baek-kimchi, 35,000 won) and Fukuoka-style mizutaki (30,000 won). The sanhap arrived looking like an omakase plate and the mizutaki came packed with chicken rib meat, leaving two people completely full.

I visited Izakaya Goko Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch near Gangnam Station! I'd been going to a dermatology clinic near Gangnam Station, and I just finished my 10-session package so I don't have to go anymore haha!!! I left work a little early, got my treatment, and met up with my mom — who commutes through Gangnam Station — for dinner and drinks.

At Izakaya Goko near Gangnam Station, the house snack was this popcorn? Savory and salty, but not just plain popcorn — it was pretty crispy so it was fun to chew haha.
Daegwangeo sio sanhap, 35,000 won: flounder wrapped in gimbap and baek-kimchi
Goko's daegwangeo sio sanhap (flounder wrapped with gimbap and baek-kimchi) is ₩35,000, a dish where you wrap raw flounder in gimbap and white kimchi. Flounder is actually my mom's favorite fish.
At Izakaya Goko near Gangnam Station, they have this flounder sanhap menu where you can wrap flounder with gimbap and baek-kimchi (white kimchi) together.

It also comes with the flounder fin part, which a lot of people love! It's a fatty, savory cut that's a bit divisive, but they gave just enough for two of us to try.
The plating alone is so pretty it almost felt a shame to eat.

They gave a generous amount of gimbap so I stole some haha. The rice was chewy and held together well, so when I picked it up with chopsticks the grains didn't fall apart — I liked that.

So you roll the chewy raw flounder up in the gimbap and top it with baek-kimchi!! The result really looks like a high-end omakase dish! Visually it's amazing, right?
My mom tried it this way too and said it was so good — she rarely overeats, but she did this time.
What does the Fukuoka-style mizutaki, 30,000 won, taste like?
Goko's Fukuoka-style mizutaki is ₩30,000, a Japanese-style hot pot with chicken. The broth had a refreshing, spicy kick from chili, and it was loaded only with dakgalbi-style chicken pieces.

This was my first time trying Fukuoka-style mizutaki — apparently it's a Japanese hot pot with chicken! I was so curious I ordered it, and for this price the quality was very satisfying.
There was way more chicken in it than I expected. It's perfect as a dinner-and-drinks kind of dish!

The broth's spicy chili kick was really refreshing. The seasoning was just right, and the chicken was only the tender dakgalbi cut. There was a ton of chicken, and it was juicy and chewy rather than dry.
Depending on your taste you could add udon noodles for an even better meal, but I was so full I couldn't add noodles — I felt like I'd burst..

Is Izakaya Goko a good spot for dinner and drinks with your parents?
