Sinsa Station Chinese restaurant, three à la carte dishes ₩48,000

In short

Samsin Garosu-gil is a fusion Chinese restaurant on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a building about 377m from Exit 8 of Sinsa Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Three à la carte dishes — Tokyo tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork, small) at ₩20,000, tendon kimchi fried rice at ₩18,000 and Taean hwangto potato jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) at ₩10,000 — came to ₩48,000, and the potato jajangmyeon was about 1.5 times the size of a regular bowl. The butter-topped Tokyo tangsuyuk with the rich potato jajangmyeon was the most memorable pairing at Samsin Garosu-gil.

I wanted something a bit different for Chinese food in Garosu-gil, so I went to Samsin Garosu-gil. Instead of just a plain jajangmyeon-and-tangsuyuk kind of place, it mixes in Korean, Chinese, and Japanese elements across the menu, so it was actually fun just reading through it. Today I'm sharing my visit to Samsin, a Chinese restaurant near Sinsa Station and close to Garosu-gil.

Three à la carte dishes at Samsin Garosu-gil, ₩48,000 total

At Samsin Garosu-gil I ordered Tokyo tangsuyuk (small) for ₩20,000, tendon kimchi fried rice for ₩18,000, and Taean hwangto potato jajangmyeon for ₩10,000, coming to ₩48,000 total. The menu has familiar Chinese dishes like xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and jajangmyeon, but plenty of items with names that already hinted at something different! There were also several types of set courses.

Dishes like Tokyo tangsuyuk and tendon kimchi fried rice, which blend Japanese or Korean elements into Chinese food, are the standouts here, and the à la carte lineup was pretty varied, from full meals to individual dishes.

Tokyo tangsuyuk (small), ₩20,000: butter and tangy sauce

First to arrive was the Tokyo tangsuyuk. It's the dish Samsin pushes as its signature — a fusion take on Chinese-style sweet and sour pork with Japanese touches.

Tokyo tangsuyuk with a pat of butter on top

The tangsuyuk comes out on a hot plate with a pat of butter sitting on top. When you pour the sauce over it, the sauce bubbles on the hot plate and melts the butter right in! The staff told us to mix it well since there's butter involved.

I expected the butter to make it purely rich and heavy, but the tangy sauce balanced it out better than I thought. This was my first time having tangsuyuk with butter in it, and it's really got its own charm. Feels like something you can only get at Samsin?!

The meat pieces in the tangsuyuk were nice and chunky, and the batter was tasty too.

Taean hwangto potato jajangmyeon, ₩10,000: 1.5 times the usual portion

The Taean hwangto potato jajangmyeon is ₩10,000, but the portion is seriously huge, haha. It looked like about 1.5 times a regular jajangmyeon. It's made with potatoes from Taean that grow facing sea winds, giving the noodles a fluffy, starchy texture, apparently.

Rich black bean sauce with visible potato pieces

Regular jajangmyeon is usually built around pork and onion, but here the potato is clearly visible! The sauce isn't the thin, runny type — it's noticeably thick and rich, with the black bean paste flavor and savory depth really coming through. A truly satisfying jajangmyeon.

Mixed potato jajangmyeon noodles

This was the best jajangmyeon I've had recently! Genuinely rich, satisfying to the max, I kept going back for more bites. Maybe because it's the potato version, you could really taste that potato flavor, and it went so well with the black bean sauce.

Tendon kimchi fried rice, ₩18,000: tempura over kimchi rice

The tendon kimchi fried rice is ₩18,000, a fusion dish where Korean-style kimchi fried rice cuts through the richness of Japanese-style tempura. Sweet pumpkin, egg, shiitake mushroom, shrimp tempura and more make up the tendon on top, with kimchi fried rice underneath, haha.

They also brought out a mini jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) broth on the side, and even this small cup was generously packed with seafood and vegetables!

Eating only tempura can start to feel heavy toward the end, but the tangy, salty kick of the kimchi fried rice underneath cut through the greasiness nicely.

Dessert at Samsin Garosu-gil: mango sherbet

If you take part in Samsin Garosu-gil's Naver receipt review event, they'll give you mango sherbet too, haha.

A clean, satisfying way to end the meal, nice...

Is Samsin Garosu-gil good for group dinners?

Samsin Garosu-gil uses both the 2nd and 3rd floors together, so the interior feels spacious. It seems like a great spot for group gatherings or company dinners! I had a genuinely great Chinese meal after a while, so I'd recommend this place. If you're looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Garosu-gil near Sinsa Station, or a spot where a bigger group can order a variety of dishes to share, give Samsin a try :)
