Yeouido izakaya with curtained tables and spicy Nagasaki nabe: Nani

In short

Nani Yeouido Branch is an izakaya on the 3rd floor of the S-Trenue Building in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Every table at Nani can be closed off with a curtain, and over a lamb shoulder rack (43,000 won) and spicy Nagasaki seafood nabe (35,000 won) the group talked without being overheard. Between the lamb with no gamey smell and the nutty, spicy baek-jjamppong broth, Nani Yeouido Branch is an easy recommendation when you want a Yeouido bar built for conversation.

Today I visited Nani Yeouido Branch, a Yeouido izakaya.

Where is Nani Yeouido Branch, and is there parking?

Nani Yeouido Branch is located on the 3rd floor of the S-Trenue Building. Right after you get off the escalator, it's just through one door. From the entrance itself, it felt like it was shouting, "I'm an izakaya!"

Parking is available in the building's basement lot. Just ask separately.

Curtained tables: a Yeouido bar good for talking

I felt like Nani Yeouido Branch is a bar that's good for talking. There were quite a lot of tables, arranged around three themes: a nice-atmosphere date spot, a calm blind-date spot, and a solo-drinking spot.

I was seated at a table where you can draw a curtain, so when chatting with the friends I came with, drawing the curtain gave a slightly more private feel.

What complimentary snacks come with your drinks?

Sweet fried hardtack biscuits and what looked like seaweed stems came out as the basic snacks. I caught myself constantly reaching for the hardtack once I saw it... stop eating...

What's on the menu at Nani Yeouido Branch

The menu was broadly divided into categories: sashimi, grilled dishes, signature dishes, fried items, stir-fries, and nabe/soup dishes.

The menu was really varied. Apparently all the side dishes are made by a chef with 15 years of experience. The sashimi and tempura are the chef's recommended dishes and I was curious, but today called for meat, so I ordered lamb and a soup.

  • Lamb shoulder rack ₩43,000
  • Spicy Nagasaki seafood nabe ₩35,000

I went with the combo of lamb plus the Nagasaki seafood nabe for some extra heat!

A table setting with 3 pieces of lamb shoulder rack

The lamb shoulder rack (₩43,000) comes with 3 pieces total, and you can add one more piece for ₩14,000.

It's lamb under 10 months old, and the lamb Nani uses is apparently from clean, pristine Australia. I wondered what "shoulder rack" meant — turns out it's the shoulder portion of the lamb. That definitely explained why it felt so juicy.

Lamb shoulder rack served on a stone plate

It arrived cooked just right, and since it's served on a stone plate, you can keep eating it warm until the end. Just be careful — the stone plate can splatter oil!

Virtue of a good blogger friend = cutting the meat nicely, haha.

Lamb cut into bite-sized pieces

Doesn't it look even more appetizing cut into bite-sized pieces? But honestly, the meat still on the bone is also really good~

Mint jelly or cumin: which suits the lamb better?

Mint jelly sauce and cumin spice

Mint jelly sauce and cumin spice are set out. Pair them however suits your taste.

Eating it with the mint jelly adds a fragrant aroma, while dipping it in cumin adds a spicy kick for a different experience. You can go with whichever you prefer, but honestly, I couldn't choose — I liked both!

I barely noticed any gamey smell, so I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Spicy Nagasaki seafood nabe, 35,000 won, on a baek-jjamppong broth

Spicy Nagasaki seafood nabe with red broth

For the spicy Nagasaki seafood nabe (₩35,000), you can choose mild or spicy, and I went with spicy. The menu described it as a baek-jjamppong (white spicy seafood noodle soup) style with seafood stir-fried in sauce and then simmered — I figured even the spicy version would be a white broth, but it turned out to be red.

It wasn't as intensely spicy as I expected. If I hadn't already been full, I think I would've added udon noodles — it seemed like it would go really well with udon.

Seafood nabe with bean sprouts and onion

There was a lot of bean sprouts and onion, which gave it a refreshing feel. Since it's a baek-jjamppong base, there's a savory taste as the foundation, with spiciness layered on top!

Seafood nabe with baby octopus, shrimp, squid, and clams

Cute baby octopus, shrimp, squid, clams, and other seafood were packed in more generously than I expected.

Is Nani Yeouido Branch worth a visit?
