Seolleung poke lunch for two: truffle mayo steak poke at Hola Poke

In short

Hola Poke Seolleung Branch is a poke and salad restaurant on the second floor of a building a short walk from Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Two of us had lunch here, ordering the steak poke with a half-salad, half-rice base and truffle mayo sauce, plus a side of buldak salmon kkakdugi (spicy fire-chicken salmon with radish cubes). We came in expecting a light meal, but the steak poke kept us full all afternoon.

A bowl of poke at Hola Poke Seolleung Branch

I was trying to decide what to eat for lunch near Seolleung Station and figured I'd go a bit lighter this time, so I went out for poke. With poke I always worry it'll just feel like eating salad and I'll be hungry again soon, but these days you can get it with rice mixed in too, and it turned out to be a pretty solid meal haha. This time I visited Hola Poke Seolleung Branch!

Steak poke and fire chicken salmon kkakdugi at Hola Poke near Seolleung Station

If you've ever looked for poke or salad near Seolleung Station, you've probably heard of this place. We ate in the restaurant and ordered one fire chicken salmon kkakdugi (spicy salmon and radish cubes) and one steak poke.

For the steak poke especially, we chose a half salad, half rice base and picked truffle mayo as the sauce. We went in planning to eat light, but ended up more full than expected — here's my review of this poke restaurant near Seolleung Station.

Where is Hola Poke Seolleung Branch, and what is the second-floor space like?

Hola Poke Seolleung Branch is close enough to Seolleung Station to make it a good lunch spot for office workers. Around Seolleung Station lunchtime always turns into a whole debate about what to eat, so having something light like salad or poke available is nice, even for people watching what they eat.

The restaurant is on the 2nd floor, and once inside it had a clean, bright feel overall. There are seats set up for eating in-store, so we didn't take ours to go — we ate right there :)

A lot of people come to poke places to eat solo, and honestly the whole vibe here felt easy and unpretentious enough that eating alone would be totally fine too.

What we ordered this time: steak poke and fire chicken salmon kkakdugi! For the steak poke we picked half salad, half rice, and truffle mayo as the sauce. Personally, when it comes to poke, I think half salad half rice beats a bowl packed with only rice.

Getting both vegetables and rice made it feel like a much more substantial meal haha. Once the dishes arrived, the colors were seriously vibrant. Poke comes with a bunch of ingredients all piled into one bowl, so there's a fun element of picking and choosing bites even before you start eating.

How does truffle mayo taste on Hola Poke's steak poke?

We started with the steak poke. Steak, salad, rice, and a bunch of toppings were all packed generously into one bowl. The steak was cut into bite-sized pieces, so it was easy to eat together with the vegetables.

Eating the meat together with fresh vegetables was so good! And tying it all together — the truffle mayo sauce!! You could pick up a subtle truffle aroma along with the savory richness that mayo brings, and it paired really well with the clean flavor of the steak.

With salad and rice mixed half and half, it definitely felt like a proper meal. Eating rice, steak, and vegetables all together also gave a nice variety of textures.

Best of all, you didn't need to pour on a ton of sauce — it went well with the ingredients on its own, so it never felt heavy all the way through. Poke fills you up more than you'd expect haha. I thought I wouldn't be full, but I actually wasn't hungry again even into the afternoon!

Buldak salmon kkakdugi: does spicy sauce work with raw salmon?

Fire chicken salmon kkakdugi topped with sauce and flying fish roe

And now the dish I was most curious about this time — fire chicken salmon kkakdugi! You can already kind of guess the flavor from the name lol. It's salmon cut into cubes, topped with spicy fire chicken sauce and flying fish roe, among other things.

The salmon pieces were sizable, so each bite had real presence. The naturally soft, savory flavor of the salmon combined with the spicy fire chicken sauce worked surprisingly well together.

On top of the deliciously spicy fire chicken sauce, the flying fish roe popped between bites, adding fun texture. With the popping roe against the soft salmon, it was definitely more fun in the mouth than eating plain salmon.

Adding a bit of the fire chicken salmon kkakdugi to the clean-tasting steak poke brought in a spicy kick and gave it a whole different feel. At first we ate the steak poke and the fire chicken salmon kkakdugi separately, but eventually we ended up eating them together like this haha. If you want a lunch that's both tasty and healthy, I really recommend this restaurant near Seolleung Station, Hola Poke! Wrapping up this genuinely satisfied review here~~!
