Couples' date café in Sutonggol, Daejeon: Luonto chimney bread
In short
Luonto Sutonggol Branch is a garden café known for chimney bread in Sutonggol, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. Leaving the baby with her mother-in-law, the writer visited Luonto with her husband and ordered cinnamon chimney bread, a Luonto blend iced americano and a decaf blend iced americano, then took her time around the green interior and the terrace used for small outdoor weddings. The cinnamon chimney bread tasted like churros, and with baby chairs on hand, Luonto worked well as a date course for parents.

Since having a baby, dating my husband one-on-one has gotten really hard, ugh. We used to just naturally grab good food and coffee together on weekends, but ever since the baby was born, every outing revolves around the baby (everything is baby-centered!!!!!!!!) — my own life, on hold... haha. And then, after a long time, came the day we finally got to use the grandma card!
She agreed to watch the baby for a bit so my husband and I could have some time to ourselves. I was oddly nervous, wondering how long it had been since we'd gone on a date just the two of us — and honestly, stepping out without the baby felt a little strange too, haha.
Still, once we were actually out together, it felt like a relaxed date from back when we were dating, and it was so nice. This time, wanting to take a drive and feel some nature, we looked for a café around Sutonggol and ended up visiting one.
Café Luonto (a chimney bread hotspot in Yuseong-gu)

What is Luonto, the garden café in Sutonggol, Daejeon, like?
Luonto Sutonggol Branch is a café on Sutonggol-ro 71beon-gil in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, and its signature menu item is chimney bread. Sutonggol is great for walks and has plenty of cafés nearby, so it's somewhere we visit now and then, usually as part of a drive. This time we went looking for a café with a slightly different atmosphere and found Luonto.

Take a look at the menu board first~~

On this day, I ordered Luonto's signature items:
- Cinnamon chimney bread
- Decaf blend iced americano
- Luonto blend iced americano
That's what we went with!!

The teas also come with little descriptions written out, so it's helpful to check those when ordering~!

They sell cookies too!!! The chocolate cookie must've been popular that day because there was only one left????

They prep the chimney bread dough ahead of time and bake it fresh the moment an order comes in
So excited for the chimney bread!!!!!! The indoor space is fairly spacious, and there's an outdoor area too, so it'd be even better on a nice-weather day.

The trees and greenery scattered throughout the café blend together really nicely, giving it a completely different feel from a city café. That's probably why, personally, I think 'Daejeon tree café' is a fitting way to describe this space. While looking around inside, I stepped out to the outdoor terrace, and I really liked that too.
Luonto's outdoor terrace: the space used for small outdoor weddings
The outdoor terrace at Luonto Sutonggol Branch is apparently also used for small outdoor weddings. Maybe that's why the atmosphere felt a bit different from a typical café terrace. Sunlight comes in naturally, and the lighting was genuinely beautiful. Watching the warm sunlight pour in, I felt like photos here would come out with real atmosphere! I could really picture a small-scale outdoor wedding here being gorgeous.
It seemed like a great fit for people considering a small wedding with family and close friends rather than a big ceremony with lots of guests. We spent a little time in the outdoor space too, taking photos and slowly looking around the café.

The weather was great that day, so there were people enjoying the outdoor space — isn't the weather amazing these days??????

Turns out outdoor weddings really do happen here??? Every corner of the space was so pretty

Couldn't resist a mirror shot~~

That outdoor terrace really is perfect as a wedding spot!!!!!!!

The indoor space is fairly spacious and there's an outdoor area too, so it'd be even nicer to visit on a good-weather day. The trees and greenery scattered around the café blend together really well, giving it a totally different feel from a downtown café. That's probably why, personally, I think 'Daejeon tree café' fits this place. These days, when picking a café, I don't just look at the coffee and desserts — the atmosphere and surrounding scenery matter too, and on that front, I was satisfied.
Just sitting with my husband, sipping coffee, and slowly talking felt healing in itself.

Calling dibs on this spot!!!!

There are baby chairs available too, just so you know
A café date at Luonto with just my husband, after a long while
For a while that day, we actually got to step away from baby talk and just talk about us. Of course, we still checked in with each other now and then like 'the baby's okay, right?' 😂 But still, we normally can't even enjoy a coffee at ease while looking after the baby, so it was nice to really slow down and talk over coffee that day.
Honestly, we didn't do anything special. Just ate good dessert, drank coffee, talked, and looked around the café — but ever since becoming parents, this kind of ordinary date feels extra special somehow. Even if just for a moment, it felt like going back to our dating days, and that made for a good day. I really think moms and dads need some time to themselves once in a while too. 🤎
What does Luonto's cinnamon chimney bread taste like? Like churros
If you come to Luonto Sutonggol Branch, you have to try the chimney bread. Since it's baked to order, it comes out freshly baked.

Finally!!!!!! The chimney bread we'd been waiting for!!!!!!

And what stuck with me most from the café that day was definitely the chimney bread. It's not a dessert you usually see at cafés, so as soon as I saw it on the menu I was curious. Even the look of it is different from regular bread, which caught my eye. We ordered the cinnamon flavor that day. There was a subtle cinnamon aroma along with a sweet, crispy texture, and as we ate, my husband and I both had the same thought.
Doesn't this taste like churros?
Haha, maybe because of the cinnamon and sweetness, it really did bring churros to mind. If you like churros, this will probably feel pretty familiar.
That said, it's not exactly the same as churros — the chimney bread's own texture and shape gave it a different kind of fun. If you want something a bit more special than your typical cake or bakery item, it's worth ordering at least once. We had it with coffee, and the sweet chimney bread paired well with the slightly bitter coffee. If you're looking for a special dessert in Sutonggol, this chimney bread hotspot in Yuseong-gu is worth remembering.
Why a babysitting grandma made this Luonto visit special
This café date stuck with me so much, and I don't think it was just because the café was pretty. I think it's because, after a long time, my husband and I could enjoy a date without any worries.
Before having a baby, time alone together was just a given, but now it's something that only happens with someone else's help, which makes it feel even more precious. I felt especially grateful to my mother-in-law for so readily watching the baby, giving us this rare time together. Sharing tasty chimney bread with my husband, slowly drinking coffee, looking around the outdoor space — it really felt like a proper date after so long!
It wasn't some grand trip or a special event, but that relaxed stretch of time that day was really nice. Going forward, I think I'll borrow the grandma card (?) every once in a while for a date with just my husband. 🤭
Wrap-up: is Luonto worth it as a café in Sutonggol, Daejeon?
If you're looking for a good-atmosphere café in Sutonggol, this is worth a visit at least once. The nature-blended atmosphere was lovely, and the chimney bread, something you don't easily see at typical cafés, left an impression. A day that brought back 'our date as a couple,' something I'd almost forgotten amid parenting. We headed home talking about where to go on our next date. 🤎
