Toddler-friendly café in Sutonggol, Daejeon: Luonto chimney bread

In short

Luonto Sutonggol Branch is a large chimney bread café on a hill in Sutonggol, Yuseong, Daejeon. The whole family — parents, husband and a 19-month-old baby — visited on a Sunday afternoon, took an outdoor table and shared cinnamon chimney bread with Sanghamokjang ice cream, adding a second bread because the baby kept asking for more. Luonto has no elevator, so a stroller is a hassle, but the view and the dessert made the trip worth it.

The weather's finally cooled down a bit, so I went on a family outing to a café in Sutonggol. This time we picked Luonto Sutonggol Branch, which is already famous for its chimney bread. Since my parents, husband, and our baby all came along, the dessert really had to deliver haha. Spoiler: it won over not just me, a certified bread lover, but also our picky baby's taste buds!

Where is Luonto Sutonggol Branch, and what are the outdoor seats like?

Luonto Sutonggol is tucked into an alley and sits on a slight hill. Because it's a bit elevated, the air genuinely feels clearer, and the open view is stunning.

We visited around 2pm on Sunday, September 13, and since the weather was nice, we grabbed an outdoor table.

Everything around us was so green that just sitting there felt healing 🌿

There were photo zones everywhere, so it was great for taking pictures with the baby! 👍🏻

Outdoor wedding space and each floor at Luonto — stairs to note with a stroller

True to its status as a large café, the inside of Luonto Sutonggol Branch was spacious and comfortably managed. One side of the shop had a nice display of coffee beans and goods that was fun to browse. They also sell snacks for kids, like organic rice puffs and dried sweet potato slices, so it's a great spot to bring a baby.

One unique thing was that there's a separate outdoor space on the 2nd floor set up for weddings.

When we were there, a family celebrating a 70th birthday party was taking photos, and the atmosphere was really pretty haha.

Just note that there's no elevator, so you have to take the stairs to get from the 1st to the 2nd floor!

If you're bringing a baby and a stroller, it might be a bit of a hassle, but the view makes it well worth putting up with!

What does Luonto's cinnamon chimney bread taste like, baked to order?

The main reason we came to Luonto Sutonggol Branch was, of course, the chimney bread!

Looking at the menu, there were two types — plain and cinnamon — and we went with the cinnamon chimney bread.

Since it's baked to order, it takes a bit of time, but that means it comes out extra hot and fresh.

Chimney bread with its tall, sculptural shape

The look alone is overwhelming, right? The tall, sculptural shape was so unusual that even my parents couldn't stop taking pictures.

Nice touch — they give you disposable finger gloves so you can eat the bread easily by hand!

Dip it in the whipped cream that comes with it, and the sweetness and nuttiness fill your mouth — this is the textbook definition of crisp-outside, soft-inside 👍

The cinnamon powder was coated evenly all over, giving it real depth of flavor!

Our 19-month-old kept opening her mouth for more, eating it happily haha.

In the end, it was so good we polished it off in no time and ordered one more!

What to drink with chimney bread: Sanghamokjang ice cream

Every drink at Luonto Sutonggol Branch was delicious and paired well with the chimney bread.

The Sanghamokjang ice cream in particular had a rich, nutty milk flavor that was soft and sweet — my dad really enjoyed it :)

I heard that Luonto's latte is delicious because they use 1A-grade Maeil milk, but we ordered other drinks this time, so I didn't get to try it. Next time I visit Sutonggol, I definitely need to try the latte too!
