Pork belly at 3pm, no break time: Jeonju House in Bongmyeong-dong
In short
Jeonju House is a Korean restaurant near the back gate of Gyeryong Spatel in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, serving fresh pork belly grilled on a cast-iron pot lid and galbi kimchi stew cooked in a cauldron. Two diners arrived for a late Saturday lunch after 3pm and ordered four servings of the cast-iron lid pork belly, two bowls of rice and the 2,000 won doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), with no break time to work around. The fresh pork belly was chewy with crisp fat, and the self-serve side dish bar makes Jeonju House an easy pick for group dinners too.

It's located near the back gate end of Gyeryong Spatel in Bongmyeong-dong :) It's a 15-minute walk from Yuseong Oncheon Station, 5-minute walk from the Yuseong Police Substation, and 3-minute walk from Yuseong Convention Wedding Hall, so walking there works fine!

Homemade infused liquor at the door: inside Jeonju House
Jeonju House already looks like a great restaurant from the entrance hahaha. And the vibe the moment you step in makes it feel even more like one haha.

You know a restaurant is legit when the owner has their own collection, right? haha 🪵🍶 Wooden sculptures paired with a collection of homemade liquors — I can't deal with this vibe, seriously...

The interior is also super spacious :) We didn't go up to the 2nd floor, but you can also dine there! Even just photographing the 1st floor shows how huge it is.
On Saturday, September 12th, my boyfriend and I had a late lunch just past 3pm, and since this place runs with no break time, we could eat without any time restrictions haha 👍🏻 Usually 3pm is right when break time hits, you know ㅠ Even though it was a late lunch hour, the staff welcomed us so warmly that it made me happy 🥰

We ordered 4 servings of cast-iron lid pork belly + 2 bowls of rice + 1 doenjang stew!
Complimentary side dishes and the self-serve bar
It's a whole parade of banchan (side dishes) at Jeonju House ~ 🎉 Salad, nabak kimchi (watery radish kimchi), two kinds of chives, seasoned pollack(?), fried tofu, pickled onion, lettuce, and mustard-dressed wood ear mushrooms all came out!
Nice touch that they mix salt with pepper for you 🙌🏻 If any side runs low, you can just help yourself at the extra self-serve bar haha.

There's also bean sprouts and stir-fried fish cake at the self-serve bar ~ 📌 Note: the tofu is for the stew, so if you're eating pork belly, no sneaking it! haha 🤣

They served Geumsansu mineral water! 💧 That surprised me haha. The manufacture date felt super trustworthy too 👍🏻
Check the country-of-origin sign posted, too :) And there's info on phone charging service and Wi-Fi available >_<
How thick is the cast-iron lid pork belly, and how does it taste?
The cast-iron lid pork belly at Jeonju House has thick-cut meat with a great ratio of lean to fat. They oil the iron lid and grill it right on top.

The pork belly we ordered arrived ~ 🥩 It's been so long since I had raw pork belly like this, I was thrilled haha. Total grandma's-house vibes!!

They carefully oil the iron lid first, then we start grilling the pork belly haha. The meat is really thick and the texture is no joke haha. Cook faster, hurry up ~~ 🐷 We grill the kimchi and garlic too 🔥 Can you feel the beautiful form of raw pork belly ✨

The color is seriously legendary ㅠㅠ Perfect ratio of lean meat to fat 💯 The crisp-tender fat texture is insane.. 🤤 Being raw pork belly, the texture is genuinely chewy and springy 🐖 Domestic pork power, as expected haha, long live Korea 🇰🇷
The 2,000 won doenjang stew: how big and how good?
Jeonju House's doenjang stew is ₩2,000, but the earthenware bowl is really huge! It's an anchovy broth base, so the anchovy aroma really comes through in the soup.

The doenjang stew is packed with ingredients too ~ 🤎 It's an anchovy broth base haha. The moment you take the first spoonful of soup, the anchovy aroma fills your mouth 🐟 This doenjang stew tastes like something grandma would make :)

Cleaned my bowl again today, Jiong style ^_^vv I only ate two spoonfuls of rice out of conscience and gave the rest to my boyfriend.. cutting carbs .. ✂️ Thanks for the delicious meal, I'm off :)

Would I go back? Final verdict on Jeonju House
Having no break time is Jeonju House's biggest strength, and the spacious dining room also makes it great for group meals and gatherings. There's a coffee machine and even Febreze near the entrance/exit ☕️
Honestly, we came planning to eat kimchi stew and egg roll, but got tempted into switching our order after seeing the table next to us eating pork belly haha. Next time I'll come back for the kimchi stew and egg roll combo :) The staff were so kind and the atmosphere is cozy and quiet — a total gem haha. I think having no break time is really the best perk ~! Cast-iron lid pork belly, galbi kimchi stew spot 'Jeonju House,' please give it lots of love ~~ 🫶🏻
