Yeongdeungpo pork rib restaurant dinner for two: Choryang Saenggalbi
In short
Choryang Saenggalbi is a pork rib (galbi) restaurant in an alley off Exit 4 of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station in Seoul. The writer visited at 6:30pm on a weekday with his wife and ordered the 50,000-won Set A: 200g fresh ribs, 100g kkot-hanjeongsal (pork jowl), and 100g hwangjesal (imperial cut), 400g in total, with kimchi jjigae and cheese egg custard, all grilled on a cast-iron charcoal briquette plate. Staff grilled every cut to the finish and served house-made jeotgal (salted seafood dip), making Choryang Saenggalbi an easy after-work dinner for two.

After wrapping up the workday, I headed toward Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station with my wife to grab a good dinner together.
Coming out of Exit 4 and heading into the alley, you'll find a street always buzzing with bars and BBQ places. Among them is Choryang Saenggalbi (초량생갈비), a restaurant known for its pork ribs.

As the banner at the entrance made clear, the restaurant pushes its Choryang Saenggalbi and chadol doenjang sulbap (beef brisket doenjang rice) as signature dishes, which already got my expectations up before we even sat down.

No wait at 6:30pm on a weekday: inside Choryang Saenggalbi
We arrived at Choryang Saenggalbi at 6:30pm on a weekday and were seated immediately with no wait. But by 7pm, the place was nearly full, so if you want a quiet meal for two, it's best to go early.
The interior size was just right — not overly spacious, not cramped either — making for a comfortable meal. We got lucky arriving at the relatively early hour of 6:30pm and were seated right away without waiting. But not long after we sat down, around 7pm, a wave of customers came pouring in and the place filled up almost completely, making me glad we'd come early.

What comes in the 50,000-won Set A for two
Choryang Saenggalbi's Set A comes to ₩50,000 and includes 200g fresh ribs, 100g flower hanjeongsal, and 100g imperial cut pork — 400g of meat in total. On top of that, it comes with kimchi jjigae and cheese egg steam, making the portion and price a perfect fit for a couple.
After browsing the menu for a while, we decided on Set A, which looked like the best value and composition. For a solid ₩50,000, it came with 400g of meat total — 200g fresh ribs, 100g flower hanjeongsal, 100g imperial cut pork — plus a generous serving of spicy kimchi jjigae and savory cheese egg steam. It really felt like the perfect amount and price for two people to eat well and leave happy.

On top of that, if you write a Naver receipt review, you can get a free soju, drink, or naengmyeon (cold noodles) of your choice, so I'd definitely recommend taking advantage of it.

Charcoal briquette cast-iron plate and house-made jeotgal
Choryang Saenggalbi uses a cast-iron charcoal briquette grill made in-house from a custom mold. It's said to keep a consistent high heat, and the 21 holes deeply infuse the meat with charcoal aroma.
Once we placed our order, the grill was set up, completing the restaurant's distinctive atmosphere.

The basic side dishes served were also very neat and varied. Seasoned scallion salad, lettuce wraps, and green onion kimchi were laid out cleanly, and a staff member specifically pointed out the jeotgal (salted seafood) side dish, kindly recommending we pair it with the meat since it's the restaurant's own special house-made version.

Staff grill it for you: how the three pork cuts tasted
Choryang Saenggalbi is a place where the staff grills the meat for you from start to finish. Thanks to that, my wife and I never lost the thread of our conversation and could focus on the meal.
When the meat arrived, its color alone showed how fresh it was, with a striking ratio of lean meat to fat.

Best of all, having a staff member carefully grill the meat from beginning to end made things really easy. We didn't have to worry about it burning, and could keep talking comfortably and focus on the meal instead.

The golden-brown fresh ribs burst with juice the moment you bit in, filling the mouth with savory flavor. The imperial cut pork had very little fat, giving it an appealing chewy texture. The flower hanjeongsal, too, had that distinctive crunchy texture and rich flavor unique to the cut.

Trying a bite with the house-made jeotgal the owner recommended, placed lightly on top of the grilled meat, brought an explosion of umami that cut right through the richness and took the meat to another level.

Cheese egg custard and kimchi jjigae: worth it?
The cheese egg steam and kimchi jjigae included in Set A were no less impressive than the mains. The cheese egg steam puffed up fluffy over the top of the stone pot, and the spicy kimchi jjigae cleared the palate nicely after the meat.
The side dishes included in the set menu were just as high quality as the main dishes. The cheese egg steam caught the eye immediately with its visual — puffed up fluffy over the rim of the stone pot. Scooping up a big spoonful, the mozzarella cheese stretched out, and the softness of the egg blended harmoniously with the savory cheese.

The spicy, richly simmered kimchi jjigae was loaded with thick chunks of pork and well-fermented kimchi, cutting through any greasiness and rounding out the meal perfectly at the end.
Is Choryang Saenggalbi worth it for a dinner for two?
Choryang Saenggalbi near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station delivered on every front — excellent meat quality with no unpleasant smell, attentive and friendly grilling service, and a set menu that offered real value for money. The combination of the distinctive charcoal aroma from the cast-iron grill and the restaurant's own house-made jeotgal is something I'll remember for a long time. If you're looking for a date spot or a place for a work dinner, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.
