Yeouido IFC Mall medium-spice tteokbokki combo for two: Hyeonseonine

Do you like tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes)? I timed a visit to Hyeonseonine, a famous Yeouido tteokbokki spot, with my husband's commute home.🖤 Turns out the shop is in the basement of IFC Mall. It's right along the underground passage to the subway, so it's easy to get to and a great budget-friendly snack place for a quick meal after work.

IFC Mall on a weekday evening: full of office workers

We visited on a weekday evening and it was really, really packed with office workers. Very Yeouido — I saw plenty of people eating alone after work, as well as groups sharing snacks.

The indoor seating isn't huge, but there's also outdoor seating, so the actual usable space felt more generous than expected.

Best of all, it's on the way to the subway, so it's super convenient!! Good for solo dining too, on days when a full meal feels like too much and you just want something snack-like.

By the way, who is Hyeonseoni anyway...? haha Seeing the character makes me suddenly curious. lol

I ordered the Hyeonseoni Combo Set for ₩25,000, and the tteokbokki spice level was selectable — since I can't handle spicy food, I went with medium.

Is the 25,000-won combo set enough for two?

The portion was bigger than I expected. Tteokbokki, sundae (Korean blood sausage), gimbap, and fried snacks — basically every must-order item from a snack restaurant, all in one combo, so there's no need to agonize over what to pick! Plus it even comes with fish cake broth... If two people are visiting, the Hyeonseonine combo set is perfect for sharing. Nice to get a little bit of everything🖤

Hyeonseonine tteokbokki: how the medium-spice broth tastes

The most important part, of course — the tteokbokki! First, the rice cakes were exactly my type. Made with wheat flour, they were super chewy yet soft, pairing really well with the sauce. Not too hard or tough, just soft and chewy — absolutely delicious🖤

It's the broth-style tteokbokki with plenty of liquid, and the broth itself is so good I kept scooping it up with a spoon... hahaha You know dipping the fried snacks and sundae into the broth makes them even better!!

✔️ The medium spice level wasn't very hot at all! A lot of tteokbokki places these days emphasize how spicy they are, but this one wasn't intimidating at all, which I appreciated. Even a mild-spice eater like me could enjoy the medium level!

What fried snacks come with the combo set?

The fried snacks in the combo set were surprisingly satisfying. First off, they were all really crispy overall!

From gimmari (fried seaweed rolls) to squid, sweet potato, and vegetables — the variety made it fun to pick one after another. They were tasty crispy on their own, but of course dipping them in the tteokbokki broth is the way to go with broth-style tteokbokki. Dipping the fried snacks in the sauce made them even better. And with so many kinds, it was great for sharing between two.

Plump sundae and lung in the Hyeonseonine set

The sundae was plump and chewy, so it was delicious, but I was surprised the accompanying lung (heopa) was actually tasty too.

Usually when I order sundae I don't reach much for the organ meats, but the lung had a decent texture...? haha Dipped some sundae in the tteokbokki broth, dipped some in salt too — snack food really does taste best when you order a bunch of things and eat them all together.

The mini gimbap you'd miss if it weren't there

The gimbap (seaweed rice roll) looks like the small-bite style! The filling is plain and simple, and the small size makes it easy to eat in one bite.

Something like this~~ small gimbap, but a slightly plumper version of small gimbap...? lolol So the portion is actually pretty generous. 🤣

Prices in Yeouido have gotten kind of crazy lately, haven't they? A lot of places charge a fair amount just to get a meal, so what I liked most about Hyeonseonine's IFC Mall branch is that for ₩25,000 you get a hearty spread of tteokbokki, fried snacks, sundae, and gimbap.
