Weekend happy hour live jazz and whiskey at Flat Nine, Gangnam Station

I wanted to try a slightly different kind of Gangnam Station date, so I went to Flat Nine, a place where you can catch live jazz shows!

It was my first time at a jazz bar, so I was curious what the vibe would be like — but listening to live music right in front of me while enjoying a course meal and whiskey turned out to be way better than I expected, haha.

The course food especially was delicious dish after dish, so this isn't just a place to watch a show — it holds up fine as a Gangnam Station restaurant and bar too.

Let me introduce Flat Nine, where I enjoyed great food, live jazz, and a nice atmosphere all on one Gangnam Station date :)

How far is it from Gangnam Station Exit 10?

Flat Nine is about a 5-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 10, so it wasn't hard to find at all.

On the ground floor there's a sign for Flat Nine along with that day's show lineup, so I could check what performance was on before even going inside :)

Flat Nine is on the 5th floor of the building, and we arrived about 20 minutes before the 4pm show!

Show times and artists were listed date by date, which made it easy to check what was on before visiting.

The day we visited happened to have the Jackie Kim Trio performing at 4pm.

Flat Nine's lineup changes by date and time, so I'd recommend checking in advance if there's a specific show you want to catch :)

If you're looking for a Gangnam Station restaurant and bar, being able to enjoy a meal alongside live jazz seems like Flat Nine's biggest draw, haha.

Atmosphere and seating

Walking inside, the lighting was low and the overall mood was calm — you could really feel that classic jazz bar atmosphere.

At the front there's a stage for the live show, with tables arranged so you can dine while facing it.

In the center there are also bar seats, which looked great for just having a light drink while enjoying the show, course meal or not :)

In the back there's separate group seating for larger parties.

The mood wasn't too loud or overwhelming, which made it good for a date, and it seemed like a great fit for anyone looking for a Gangnam Station restaurant and bar with a bit of a different atmosphere, haha.

How the live charge and happy hour work

Each table had a tablet where you could order from the menu and check the usage info.

At Flat Nine, a live charge of ₩15,000 per person is added separately when watching a show, and the amount can vary depending on the performance.

We came for the 4pm weekend show, and it happened to fall within the Sat–Sun 3-6pm happy hour window!

During happy hour, all cocktails are 30% off and the live charge drops from ₩15,000 to ₩10,000, haha 😆😆

Since we wanted to enjoy a full meal along with the show, we ordered the classic course for two!

We upgraded the lasagna in the course to the white truffle lasagna for an extra ₩4,000.

We also ordered a Godfather and a Smoked Old Fashioned, one each :)

I figured a jazz bar would mainly do simple bar snacks, but they actually had full course meals, making it a Gangnam Station restaurant and bar where you can enjoy dinner, drinks, and a show all in one place, haha.

For anyone who, like us, wants a proper meal too, I'd recommend ordering the course menu :)

The classic course for two

A refreshing welcome drink to start

The classic course started off with a welcome drink!

You could choose between non-alcoholic and alcoholic, and we both went with alcoholic, haha.

It was made with cranberry, raspberry, mint, lemon, and sparkling wine, so the first sip was refreshing with nice fizzy bubbles.

Sweet yet tangy, it gently woke up the palate, which made it a great start to the course :)

A one-bite amuse-bouche

After the welcome drink came the amuse-bouche!

It was thin layers of potato fried until crisp, and the potato's texture came through clearly with every bite.

It was bite-sized, so it was great for snacking lightly while waiting for the show to start, haha.

A refreshing squid and melon salad

Thinly sliced squid and Korean melon were served together, laid over a paprika sauce underneath.

The squid was tender, and the sweet, crisp melon combined with the tangy paprika sauce made for a great combination!

Starting light with the welcome drink and amuse-bouche and then moving into a refreshing salad was a great way to build up the appetite :)

A must-try: white truffle lasagna

We paid an extra ₩4,000 in the classic course to upgrade to the white truffle lasagna, and it was such a good call, haha.

The cheese on top was melted invitingly, and as soon as you took a bite the truffle aroma came through subtly, really bringing the whole dish to life.

But above all, the lasagna itself was genuinely delicious!!

Personally, this was the most memorable dish from the whole course, so if you go to Flat Nine, definitely try it :)

The main: Jeju black pork tenderloin steak

The outside of the steak was coated in herb powder, and true to a tenderloin, the inside was moist and tender — really delicious.

It came with mushrooms and potatoes as a garnish, which paired nicely with the steak :)

Above all, eating a delicious course meal while listening to live jazz right in front of us made for such a great atmosphere.

Good food plus live music — that moment was pure bliss, haha.

I really got why Flat Nine is such a good Gangnam Station restaurant and bar for a date :)

Godfather and Smoked Old Fashioned

The Godfather and Smoked Old Fashioned we ordered came out too!

Both were whiskey-based, with that distinctive deep, subtle aroma — great for sipping slowly.

Especially with live jazz playing, having a fragrant whiskey in hand made for a perfect mood, haha.

The live show: Jackie Kim Trio

At Flat Nine, the Jackie Kim Trio performed live!

Hearing the piano and bass right in front of us, you could really feel the energy that only live music has.

What made it even better was that it wasn't just a performance to listen to passively — the musicians interacted with the audience throughout, so it felt like we were part of the show, haha.

With good food and drinks alongside it, I found myself naturally getting pulled into the performance — even though it was my first jazz bar, it never felt intimidating or awkward, I could just relax and enjoy it :)

Dessert: chocolate cake

The course wrapped up with chocolate cake!

It was a rich, dense chocolate cake served with house-made cream cheese and nuts.

The soft cream cheese and nutty crunch went really well with the rich chocolate, so dessert was great too, haha.

It paired especially well with the whiskey we had left!

How was it as a Gangnam Station date?

This was my first time at a jazz bar, and it turned out to be way more fun than I expected!

Just hearing live jazz up close was great on its own, but the musicians interacting with the crowd throughout made it even more memorable, haha.

Above all, it wasn't just a place to watch a show — every dish in the course was delicious too. The white truffle lasagna especially was so my taste that I'd want to order it again :)

Getting to enjoy a great course meal and whiskey along with live music in such a nice space made it perfect for a Gangnam Station date!

It has a different kind of fun from an average dinner-and-drinks date, so it's a great pick for a day when you want a special Gangnam Station date.
