Gwangalli brunch café with pumpkin soup and a long black: Famous Benny

In short

Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch is an Australian-style brunch café on Minnakbondong-ro, a short walk from Gwangalli Beach in Suyeong, Busan. On the morning of a one-night Busan trip the writer ordered The Famous Benny (salmon) for 18,000 won, an acai bowl for 9,000 won, pumpkin soup for 9,000 won and a long black made with Melbourne Roasting Market Blend beans. Between the poached egg and salmon on croissant, the thick acai purée and the balsamic-brushed toasted bread, both the plating and the flavour at Famous Benny make it a fine brunch to pair with a walk along Gwangalli Beach afterwards.

Whenever I travel I always eat brunch in the morning, and while looking for a good brunch spot during my one-night trip to Gwangalli in Busan, I found a café doing my favorite style — Australian brunch — and headed straight to "Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch."

Among all brunch styles, Australian brunch is personally my favorite, and I heard there's a certified brunch spot in Gwangalli that's earned two Blue Ribbon awards — there was no way I could skip that.

Where is Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch, and what does it look like?

"Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch" sits near Gwangalli Beach, so it's easy to eat and then walk over to the shore.

Modern café building exterior finished in concrete

Rather than a flashy interior, the concrete and clean building exterior gave off a very modern, sophisticated feel overall. Sleek with a touch of an overseas café vibe — perfect for a date spot, right?

Inside Famous Benny: atmosphere and seating

The café has a warm wood-toned atmosphere, and with sunlight pouring in through the large windows, it felt cozy and relaxed.

Relaxed dining hall of the brunch café

It's the kind of place where you can spend leisurely time enjoying Australian brunch — when I visited, there were friends eating together as well as couples on dates.

Seating area with 4-person tables

Most tables seat four, so it's good for visiting with a group of friends as well as for dates. It wasn't awkward to sit for a long time, and it was nice chatting over brunch.

What is on the menu at Famous Benny Gwangalli?

From egg Benedict dishes to French toast and salads, the menu was really varied. There were also lighter options like acai bowls, yogurt bowls, and soups, so you can order several things and share a little of each.

The drink selection was diverse too — beyond coffee, there were premium Australian teas, smoothies, and fresh fruit drinks, so it was easy to pick something to match your brunch order.

Long black and iced Americano with Melbourne Market Blend beans

Coffee arrived before the food — and since I was at an Australian-style brunch café, of course I had to order a long black. Both the long black and Americano used Market Blend beans, which are 100% organic Arabica roasted in Melbourne.

From the very first sip, the acidity was quite pronounced. Rather than a sharp sourness hitting right away, a bright tartness came through first, finishing clean toward the end. Personally, I loved that the long black also carried a heavier, richer note alongside the acidity.

It looked pretty in photos, but seeing the food in person, the plating was a work of art. Taste matters, but so does pretty plating — you could say I enjoyed it with my eyes first.

Plated dish of The Famous Benny with salmon

The Famous Benny (salmon), 18,000 won

The Famous Benny (salmon) is Famous Benny's signature dish — their own reinterpretation of eggs Benedict. Instead of the usual English muffin, it uses a crisply toasted croissant topped with poached egg, salmon, vegetables, and more.

Poached egg and salmon on croissant

Piling the soft poached egg and clean-tasting salmon onto the crispy croissant made for pure deliciousness (mimi)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know how important the poached egg is for eggs Benedict, right? The one here was done perfectly — when you break it, the yolk flows out silky and moist, and it was so good.

Acai bowl at Famous Benny, 9,000 won

Ever since a trip to Bali, I've been obsessed with acai bowls and always order one when I see it on a menu. On top of the purple acai base were generous toppings of banana, berries, granola, peanut butter, and more — just looking at it, I could tell this was the real deal.

The acai purée itself was genuinely delicious — even eaten without the toppings, it was really good. Unlike store-bought acai bowls that are overly sweet or blended with a lot of mix-ins, this purée let the acai's own character shine through, with a gentle tartness and natural fruit sweetness together. You have to order this one!!!!!!

Pumpkin soup, 9,000 won, with balsamic-brushed bread

The pumpkin soup had the pumpkin's subtle natural sweetness and smooth texture, and eating it together with the mustard greens on top doubled the nutty flavor!!!

The soup wasn't overly sweet or too intensely pumpkin-flavored — it was smooth and easy to spoon up. It's a dish that would taste even better once the weather turns cooler.

Crisp baked bread served alongside the soup

The bread served alongside was the real kicker. It didn't taste like plain toasted bread — it felt like it had been brushed with balsamic before baking, giving it a kind of bright, tangy edge. The crust was baked crisp for a nice crunch, and dipping it in the soup made it even better. Definitely order this to share too.
