In short

Mirim Yangjang Gwangalli branch is a Chinese restaurant and bar with an exotic interior near Gwangalli Beach, on Gwanganhaebyeon-ro in Suyeong-gu, Busan. 🎈 Daily 12:00 – 2:00 (next day)

On the weekend, my husband and I wanted to enjoy the sea view and have a nice meal for a change of mood, so we went looking for a Peking duck restaurant in Gwangalli and ended up at Mirim Yangjang Gwangalli branch 🌙

Inside Mirim Yangjang Gwangalli: an interior that feels like China

I'd heard there was a place in Gwangalli where you could properly enjoy Peking duck, which isn't something you come across easily around here, so I dragged my elementary schooler along with us right away — and the moment we walked in, my eyes went wide at the exotic interior that felt straight out of China ✨

Exotic interior with an authentic Chinese feel

The atmosphere is so exotic

Peking duck is called 'Beijing Kaoya (北京烤鸭)' in Chinese

It means 'duck roasted in Beijing'!

It actually started as a duck dish from Nanjing in the south, but developed into a court dish after the Ming dynasty moved the capital to Beijing, and it's still beloved today as a traditional dish

I'd eaten this dish before on a trip to China, so being able to have Peking duck in Gwangalli was honestly moving

Half a Peking duck: the right amount for three people

After settling in, we agonized a bit and ordered half a Peking duck, and the moment it arrived looking so glamorous, my mouth started watering 🦆

It was the perfect amount for the three of us, and the kaoya looked amazing — crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside 🥢

I could barely believe we were eating Peking duck of this quality right in the middle of Gwangalli, and I kept sighing in admiration

How to eat Peking duck at Mirim Yangjang Gwangalli branch

A staff member kindly explained how to eat it: put the crispy duck skin and meat with the umami-rich signature sauce, yajang, onto a thin wheat pancake, pile on plenty of crunchy scallion and cucumber strips, and wrap it up like a little parcel 🫓

Our son was curious at first, but soon started confidently loading the skin and meat onto the thin pancake himself, brushing on the sauce and wrapping it up like a pro 😋

It clearly suited his taste, because he couldn't put his chopsticks down and ate so well — I was glad we'd brought him along

I took a big bite the same way, and the crispy duck skin burst with savory juices, mingling with the moist meat and the salty-sweet yajang sauce for an umami explosion in my mouth 😋

I'd actually had this dish before in China itself, and it tasted just like what I remembered from there — genuinely delicious 🥢

Scallion and cucumber strips that cut through the richness

The sharp, fragrant scallion and cool cucumber cut cleanly through the duck's richness, so it never got heavy no matter how much we ate — there was something addictive about it 🥒

Even my husband, who's usually sensitive to any gamey smell in meat, said there was none at all and that it just got cleaner and nuttier the more he chewed — he couldn't stop eating 🥢

Coconut ice cream ordered for dessert

Coconut ice cream to finish the meal

After finishing the duck, we wanted something to refresh our palate, so we ordered coconut ice cream on top 🥥

Taking a sweet, cool spoonful, I found chewy, sweet bits of coconut flesh mixed in 🍨

It wasn't just smooth — the chewy texture added extra fun, and it wrapped up the meal perfectly 🥄

It felt so surprising and delightful to be able to taste such an exotic, upscale Peking duck right here in Gwangalli, Busan — I found myself saying over and over during the meal that I absolutely had to bring my friends here too 🥰

If you want to enjoy a special menu and an exotic atmosphere near Gwangalli Beach, this Peking duck restaurant in Gwangalli will be a choice you won't regret 🏮

We fell so hard for the charm of this unique dish that my husband and I promised each other we'd definitely come back next time with our parents — a place that really won over both our hearts 💖
