Songpa bar for octopus kimchi jeon and pick-your-glass drinks

In short

Jojomomo is a Korean bar in Songpa, Seoul, located underground on the main road of the Bangi-dong food street. On a second-round stop the writer ordered spicy octopus kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake), a peach-scented distilled spirit called Dowonguyol served in a glass of the drinker's choosing, and nutty gamjasul (potato liquor), with a welcome drink of Jirisan Gangssoeju plus crackers and potato salad. A great pick for a lively, low-lit second round with friends.

Jojomomo is a bar in Bangi-dong, Songpa, where you can get delicious snacks and drinks going in Jamsil. I've been back to this Jamsil bar several times now, and had another great time here.

Underground on the Bangi-dong food street: Jojomomo's location and vibe

Jojomomo is on the main road of the Bangi-dong food street, behind the Songpa-gu Office. You head down into a basement space, and the interior has such a distinct atmosphere that it's also a popular date-course stop along the Jamsil Songlee-dan-gil.

Large speaker behind the bar-style seating

There's a big speaker behind the bar-style seats, but the music inside isn't actually that loud. Even though it's underground, the chatter never gets that muffled, echoey feel — I liked that!

Low-lit interior of the Korean bar

With maybe around 10 tables, it's not a huge space, but this Bangi-dong food street bar is always packed. Only a few tables were open when we arrived, and they filled up fast!

Jojomomo's menu and what we ordered for round two

The menu at Jojomomo, a go-to Jamsil bar for after-work drinks. True to its description as a Korean bar, it has a wide range of Korean dishes alongside a varied lineup of traditional liquors, so you can pick snacks and drinks to match your taste. The lighting inside is pretty dim so I couldn't get a shot of the whole menu, unfortunately! We'd already eaten meat nearby and came here for round two, so we went with the spicy octopus kimchi jeon and a clear traditional liquor. I tried the braised pork belly here last time and it was so moist and delicious!!

They say if you leave a Naver receipt review, you get a free bottle of soju or beer — definitely worth doing!!!!

Welcome drink: Jirisan Gangssoeju with crackers and potato salad

When you come to Jojomomo in Bangi-dong, they give you Jirisan Gangssoeju as a welcome drink, on the house. It's a traditional yakju (refined rice wine) with a nutty flavor that comes through nicely — a pleasant way to kick things off at this Bangi-dong food street favorite.

Along with the nutty Jirisan Gangssoeju come plain crackers and potato salad. You end up reaching for these again and again haha — the cracker and salad combo works really well together!

Pick your own glass with your drink — Dowonguyol

One really charming thing about Jojomomo is that when you order a drink, you get to choose your own glass. So much deliberating over which glass to pick~~!! Haha. The Dowonguyol was a distilled spirit with a strong peach scent — first time trying it, but it was really good haha. I went back and forth between a clear glass and a frosted one, and ended up picking the one with the prettier look.

So how does the spicy octopus kimchi jeon taste?

We ordered the spicy octopus kimchi jeon as our main dish. The seasoning is quite bold, so it makes a great pairing with drinks haha. The jeon (savory pancake) comes in a pretty large portion too, so it's perfect for two people sharing on a second round.

A large serving of spicy octopus kimchi jeon

The crunch of the kimchi and the chewiness of the octopus go really well with the soft pancake batter at this Bangi-dong food street bar. It's got a good amount of spice, so it's the perfect drinking snack lol.

It comes with its own dipping soy sauce too, which makes it an even better match for drinks at this Jamsil spot. Honestly, the flavor's bold enough that it's good even without dipping it lolol.

The batter of the kimchi jeon is nice and chewy, which makes for a really appealing texture at this Bangi-dong food street spot. It was so good it made me curious about their other jeon dishes! Haha.

The spicy kick is what makes Jojomomo's octopus kimchi jeon so appealing. You also get good bites of octopus throughout, with a great texture. Plenty of kimchi in there too, so the seasoning balance is right on!

A mellow, grain-flavored glass of gamjasul

The gamjasul (potato liquor) had that distinct grain flavor coming through, making it nice and mellow to drink! Had a great time at this Jamsil bar with such a good atmosphere, enjoying good food and drinks.
