Yangju galbi restaurant two-person lunch set with yukhoe: Manpo Garden

I was looking for somewhere to eat lunch in Yangju and ended up at Manpo Garden, a place I'd heard good things about for a while. Honestly, sometimes a place gets recommended and you go and it's just "eh, fine." This one was a little different.

"Ate till I was stuffed" is exactly right, but it wasn't just that the portions were big — it was the kind of full where you actually walk out saying "that was a great meal." I went for lunch and left in a genuinely good mood — a real Yangju find.

Where is Manpo Garden, and what is the parking and dining room like?

Manpo Garden is on the 1st floor at 28-37 Godeok-ro 355beon-gil, Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. The parking lot won me over right away — it's quite spacious. A lot of restaurants at lunchtime give you parking stress, but here I barely had to worry about it.

Walk inside and the whole place has an upscale galbi-restaurant feel.

Above all it was clean, and the tables had generous space between them, which I liked. My first thought walking in was, "This would be great for a family outing."

Thinking about it more, it'd also work well for a meal with your parents, or with senior colleagues from work. The lunch special is priced reasonably, but the table setting and atmosphere feel upscale enough that you feel taken care of.

Manpo Garden's private rooms for family gatherings

Beyond the regular tables, Manpo Garden also has rooms that seat anywhere from 8 up to 24 people. That makes it a good option for family gatherings, meals with elders, or small get-togethers.

They also have baby chairs, and the men's and women's restrooms are separate and clean — a nice detail. Reservations and takeout are both available. They also take local currency and Zero Pay, so it's worth checking payment options before you go.

What comes with the two-person handmade galbi lunch set?

What I ordered that day at Manpo Garden was the 2-person handmade galbi set plus yukhoe bibimbap.

Then the dishes started coming out one after another and I was like, "wait, all of this is coming?" Even the basic side dishes were generous.

Six side dishes plus salad, yukhoe, yukjeon (pan-fried beef), and seasoned vegetables — this wasn't just a few banchan on the table. It filled up fast. The dishware was pretty and thoughtfully arranged too, so the whole spread looked good.

One thing that stuck with me personally was the salad — it had a texture like it had finely chopped jellyfish in it, which gave it a different feel from a typical salad. The yukhoe served alongside vegetables was also a standout. And the yukhoe... the portion was so large I had to wonder, "is this really just the side-dish version?" Usually the yukhoe that comes as a side at a galbi place is a few bites and it's gone, but here the amount was enough that you could order it as its own dish.

Yukhoe bibimbap: sweet, tangy and savory

The yukhoe bibimbap came out first. I genuinely enjoyed this one. To describe the flavor: sweet + tangy + salty, and for my taste, the sweet leaned slightly stronger.

The seasoning typical of yukhoe bibimbap wasn't overpowering, and it just clicked with my palate. One bite in, I thought, "could I come back just for this?" Since the galbi set is a pretty big portion on its own, if you want a light solo lunch, ordering just the yukhoe bibimbap would probably be satisfying enough.

How was Manpo Garden's handmade galbi?

Finally, Manpo Garden's handmade galbi arrived. At first I briefly wondered, "should I have gotten beef galbi instead?" — but one bite changed my mind immediately.

"Oh, this is good." The meat wasn't tough at all, it was tender, and the seasoning had soaked in well.

Even the meat around the bone pulled away cleanly, which made it easy to eat. And above all... the portion was generous. Between the two of us and the 2-person galbi set plus everything else, we basically finished it all. So yeah, that says it all haha. We ate until we were completely stuffed.

But oddly, it wasn't a "too full, this is rough" feeling so much as a "wow, I really ate well today" one.

Doenjang sulbap that tastes like home cooking

The doenjang sulbap (rice soaked in soybean paste soup) that came with the galbi. At first the name made me think it might be something special, but once I tried it, it was basically rice served in a good doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). And it was genuinely tasty.

Not a flashy flavor, but the comforting taste of rice mixed into doenjang jjigae like your family makes at home — the kind that both kids and adults would like without much disagreement. After the meat, a spoonful of this made the whole meal feel complete. The Hamhung naengmyeon is free, but we were too full to even try it — I'll definitely have to come back for that.

Full and about to pay, a thought suddenly hit me: "an iced americano right now would be perfect." Haha. After meat, coffee always somehow sounds good. And then... chills.

They had ice cups ready to go. I'd never seen that at a place like this before. It wasn't just coffee sitting there — it felt like the restaurant was saying, "have something cold after your meal." At that point I was thinking, "does the owner here really know what people want?" Fully convinced. 👍

Next to it were ppeongtwigi (puffed rice crackers) and a soft-serve ice cream machine. Impossible to walk past without stopping.

We piled soft-serve onto the ppeongtwigi, and made an on-the-spot affogato by putting ice cream into our coffee.

It might sound like a small thing, but it made the very last moment before leaving fun too. If you came with kids, they'd probably leave in a great mood after getting to enjoy dessert too.

Looking for a family lunch spot in Yangju?

After eating through the whole meal, my overall takeaway was, "this is a place worth recommending to try at least once."

Easy parking, a clean restaurant, roomy table spacing, private rooms, and generous food. And especially considering the lunch special price, the table setting was quite impressive. If I need a restaurant for my parents, or a day I want a proper family meal, or a day I'm hosting elders, Manpo Garden is one I'd consider.

It's not just a restaurant with big portions — it's a place that makes you say, "I really ate well today." And getting to enjoy dessert right up to the very end left the whole family in a good mood on the way home.
