Gyodae gimbap restaurant with 10,000 won dakgangjeong: Halls Gimbap
In short
Halls Gimbap Main Branch is a gimbap and dakgangjeong (Korean sweet crispy fried chicken) snack restaurant on Seocho-jungang-ro 22-gil near Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. Stopping in with no real expectations on the way to a nearby bakery, the writer ordered a small dakgangjeong, a double cheese egg gimbap and a Jindo green onion tuna gimbap, and the 10,000 won dakgangjeong made with domestic chicken thigh meat came out shatteringly crisp in a dining room with every window thrown open. Halls Gimbap Main Branch turned out to be a must-revisit spot worth making the main destination next time.

I came here on the way to a bakery I'd been wanting to visit near Gyodae. Visiting Halls Gimbap wasn't really the main plan, so I walked in with genuinely low expectations. But this place is a real gimbap and dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) gem. I would have really missed out if I hadn't come... especially the dakgangjeong — it's a work of art!!! Next time I want to bring my husband and make Halls Gimbap the main destination instead of just a stop before the bakery. Here's my honest review.
Where is Halls Gimbap Main Branch, and when is it open?

Kiosk menu at Halls Gimbap: even half-and-half gimbap

The kiosk even had a half-and-half gimbap option.

It's nice that you can mix and match so many combinations.

A dining room with every window open, for solo diners and groups

Maybe because the weather was nice, the entrance had every window flung wide open, giving the place a really open, airy feel. The tables are arranged well for both solo diners and groups, both outdoors and in. True to the name Halls Gimbap, there were little horse figurines and characters scattered around. I really love a concept that's this clear and cute.

There's cup ramen and also a mild, MSG-free bonito broth. Lately I'm really drawn to that kind of mild, savory simplicity.

Drinks are self-serve after ordering. Make sure to clear your own table after eating!

Fresh, top-quality ingredients. It just has that smell of a great restaurant.

A little chaotic-looking, but in a warm, homey way.
What we ordered: small dakgangjeong and two gimbap rolls
I ordered a small dakgangjeong, double cheese egg gimbap, Jindo green onion tuna gimbap, and a Cider. Luckily I came after lunch rush, so there was no wait and I got my food right away.

The gimbap looked so pretty and neat that I was genuinely moved. There's truly not a single gap — the rice is wrapped in an extremely thin layer around the outside. The fillings inside are julienned for easy eating, and the egg is packed in tight. It just looked delicious.

Double cheese egg gimbap
Packed with egg and a full wrap of cheese. Each flavor came through clearly, which I loved! It looked like a high-protein, healthy meal at a glance...

Jindo green onion tuna gimbap
Jindo green onion tuna gimbap (진도대파참치김밥). Honestly, I couldn't quite tell where the green onion was, but the combination of pickled radish, cabbage and tuna was excellent. It covered both texture and flavor. Tuna gimbap can get a bit repetitive after a while, but the cabbage kept the texture interesting, and the pickled radish cut through that heaviness — genuinely delicious. Another thing I loved about the gimbap: it wasn't too sweet. A lot of places make gimbap on the sweet side, but this one let the flavor of the actual ingredients come through from the first bite instead of hitting you with sweetness.

Top pick: the 10,000 won small dakgangjeong
The gimbap was delicious, but my real top pick is the dakgangjeong.

Visually it doesn't look especially crispy, but the moment it hits your mouth, everything changes. It's crunchy with just the right amount of spicy sauce — incredibly good. I wonder if the green chili on top is there for people who like it spicier? Eating it together makes it even spicier, and honestly, it's just a total flavor bomb. It's amazing how it manages to be this crispy and crunchy while the chicken itself stays fresh and savory. It was just so, so good.

Dakgangjeong of this quality made with domestic chicken thigh meat for ₩10,000 is genuinely hard to find. Given today's prices, this feels like a bargain. This is a place I definitely want to bring my husband to — a must-revisit spot.

Eating gimbap and dakgangjeong while looking out at the wide-open outdoors felt like a different kind of experience. It almost felt like having brunch abroad somewhere — a nice change of pace.
Is Halls Gimbap Main Branch worth a return trip?
A place gone slightly mad with a killer combination: neat, thin-rice gimbap packed with colorful fillings, and unbeatable-value dakgangjeong made with domestic chicken thigh meat that's extremely crispy and savory. On a nice day, the open, airy dining room makes for a great mood boost — a hidden gimbap gem near Gyodae Station that rivals any decent brunch café. If you're ever in the area, be sure to stop by Halls Gimbap and experience the charm of that crispy dakgangjeong for yourself.
