Counter-seat solo dining at Gin Jaryoko, an Ansan katsu restaurant
In short
Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch is a Japanese pork cutlet (katsu) restaurant in an alley next to the No Brand building in Gojan-dong, Ansan, where every seat is a counter seat. The demiglace pork cutlet set costs 15,000 won and the mentaiko cream udon 10,000 won, both ordered with the free 1.5-portion upgrade, so the katsu dipped in mustard alternated with thick, chewy udon noodles. Gin Jaryoko is a good-value katsu spot for solo diners or a quiet meal for two or three.

Gin Jaryoko is a famous pork cutlet spot in Gojan-dong, Ansan! I first went because my friend Namchini recommended it, and the katsu sauce turned out to be so good? I ended up loving everything else on the menu too. I'm sure a lot of you have already been, but for anyone who hasn't made it yet, let me introduce it (՞𓏼ᐢ ᵕ ᐢ𓏼՞)

Where is Gin Jaryoko in Gojan-dong, and how do you get there?
Gin Jaryoko is located in Gojan-dong, Ansan! It's one block behind the main dining street, next to the No Brand building — that makes it easy to find. The sign is black and small, so it can be hard to spot, so definitely check a map before heading over! Also, all menu items are available for takeout and delivery, just so you know!

All counter seats: is Gin Jaryoko good for solo dining?
Once you step inside, the staff greet you warmly. The interior is fairly small and has a quiet vibe, so groups aren't really possible — it's a great spot for two or three people to eat quietly together! Since every seat is dachi (counter) seating, a lot of solo diners come here. And it's been featured on a bunch of TV shows too, so no wonder people keep coming back, right?

Ordering at the kiosk and the free 1.5-portion upgrade
At Gin Jaryoko, you prepay at the kiosk and your order goes in from there! It's right by the door, so you can grab a seat, order right away, and wait — the food comes out fast - ̗̀(⌯ˊᗜˋ⌯) ̖́-
And here's what makes Gin Jaryoko even more famous — they upgrade you to 1.5 portions for free! Big eaters welcome .. 🤍 Just be careful, though, since there's an environmental fee if you leave food behind! That day we ordered the signature demiglace pork cutlet set (1.5-portion upgrade) for 15,000 won, and the mentaiko cream udon (1.5-portion upgrade) my friend recommended for 10,000 won.

What's at the self-service corner
Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch also has a self-service corner where you can grab extra side dishes yourself! Since the interior is small, the walking distance is short, so it works out fine! The self-service corner has pickled radish, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), soybean paste soup, and water laid out.

Mentaiko cream udon, 10,000 won: thick noodles with real chew
First up was the mentaiko cream udon 🤍 I'm not usually into rich, heavy food, but I do love that thick, creamy texture, so I eat cream udon pretty regularly — and even though Gin Jaryoko is a pork cutlet spot, you really have to try the cream udon here ㅠㅠ It's not too heavy, and the seasoning is just right, so I kept going back for more...

And this mentaiko cream udon has noodles that feel thicker than regular udon noodles, so the texture is amazing haha. Take a big bite like I did and the mentaiko (pollock roe), cream, and udon all dance together in your mouth. The bowl is huge too — like a washbasin. With the free 1.5-portion upgrade, the portion is generous and the value is really good!

What comes with the 15,000-won demiglace pork cutlet set
Yaaay ヾ( 〃∇〃)ツ this is my favorite, the demiglace pork cutlet set! The demiglace pork cutlet set comes with about 3 big chunks of pork cutlet, rice, fried shrimp, croquette, lettuce salad, and mustard. With the free 1.5-portion upgrade, you get more rice too, which is nice!

The portion is really quite big! We're big eaters so we went for the upgrade, but if you can't eat much, I'd just recommend the regular single portion. And this demiglace sauce is really the highlight — unlike your typical store-bought sauce, it's not sour at all, more on the sweeter side! The sauce isn't harsh, it's smooth, and it goes so perfectly with the katsu and the special demiglace sauce that before I knew it, it was all gone? haha

Pork cutlet with mentaiko cream udon: how the combo tastes
And here's the finished spread .. 🤍 I've also had the salmon rice bowl before, which was delicious, but I think this combo is my favorite! If it were just cream udon on its own, it might feel a bit heavy, but the mentaiko cuts through that richness, and when you're getting a little tired of the katsu, a bite of the mentaiko cream udon refreshes everything again haha.

Dipping the katsu in mustard, plus the side dishes
One more tip — I personally thought the katsu tasted even better dipped in mustard sauce! Try it with just the sauce first, then add the mustard afterward — it makes for an even better bite 🤎
And don't forget the incredibly crispy fried shrimp and croquette! The fried shrimp had a plump shrimp inside with such a fun chewy texture, and the croquette had such soft potato inside! There's not a single weak point in this pork cutlet set haha. If you haven't tried this combo at Gin Jaryoko yet, I definitely recommend it (˶• ▿ •˶)
