Table spread of Yum Bbokki's tteokbokki set in Gojan-dong, Ansan

I've been craving tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) lately, so I went with my kid to Yum Bbokki in Gojan-dong, Ansan. It's near 25siGwangjang so it wasn't hard to find, and there's basement parking in the building, which made it easy to visit with a child.

What comes in Yum Bbokki's Silsogiyam Set 02 (13,900 won)?

Yum Bbokki's Silsog-i Yam Set 02 costs ₩13,900 and comes with tteokbokki for one + a fried snack set + a self-serve tuna rice ball + fish cake soup. Once inside, I checked out the menu — there was everything from single tteokbokki orders to a variety of set menus.

We wanted to try a bit of everything, so we ordered the Silsog-i Yam Set 02.

  • Includes: tteokbokki for 1 + fried snack set + self-serve tuna rice ball + fish cake soup

You can choose between original and rosé tteokbokki, so I went with original at medium spice.

Inside Yum Bbokki: the dining room and the self-serve bar

At Yum Bbokki, you order at a kiosk and grab your own utensils from the self-serve bar.

Spoons, scissors, and tongs were all set out, and you could help yourself to broth and pickled radish too.

The self-serve bar was neat and tidy, so it was easy to use.

Fish cake soup, the easiest dish to share with a child

The fish cake soup that came with the set had radish in the broth, giving it a cool, clean flavor. We were looking around while waiting, and the food came out pretty quickly.

Since the tteokbokki was spicy, sipping the fish cake soup broth in between bites really helped cool things down. My kid especially loved the soup broth and kept going back for more.

How spicy is Yum Bbokki's medium-spice original tteokbokki?

To me, the medium-spice original tteokbokki felt about as spicy as Shin Ramyun. Now, onto the main event — the tteokbokki itself.

Medium-spice original tteokbokki with wheat rice cakes

At first you get a sweet flavor, and as you keep eating, a mild spiciness builds up behind it. The sauce wasn't just aggressively spicy — it had a distinct savory depth that kept me coming back for more bites.

I had the default wheat rice cakes, which were chewy yet soft — a nice texture. You can switch to rice cakes instead, but I stuck with the default wheat version.

The fried snack set, dipped in the tteokbokki sauce

Yum Bbokki's fried snack set included gimmari (fried seaweed roll), fried fish cake, and fried squid.

Everything came out crispy and paired well with the tteokbokki. The fried squid in particular had plump, tender pieces that weren't chewy, so my kid ate it up too.

As always, the fried snacks tasted best dipped in the tteokbokki sauce.

Making the self-serve tuna rice balls at the table

We also tried making the self-serve tuna rice ball that came with the set.

Ingredients for the self-serve tuna rice ball included in the set

It's a DIY setup — you mix the tuna and rice together yourself.

I mixed it up with a spoon and ate it alongside the tteokbokki sauce — the combo of spicy tteokbokki and savory tuna rice ball worked really well together.

Sweet cheese fries with the seasoning served on the side

Besides the set menu, I also added the sweet cheese fried potatoes.

Since I was sharing with my kid, I asked for the seasoning to be packaged separately, and they happily obliged. So my kid ate their portion plain, while I sprinkled the sweet cheese seasoning over the adult portion. The sweet-and-salty cheese seasoning paired well with the crispy fried potatoes. If you're visiting with a child, requesting the seasoning separately like this is a great option.

What stood out after eating at Yum Bbokki with a child

Visiting with my kid this time, I really appreciated being able to share a variety of dishes bit by bit. Ordering more than just tteokbokki — with fried snacks, rice balls, and fish cake soup added in — made it feel like a full, satisfying meal. My kid actually ate more of the fish cake soup, rice ball, and fried potatoes than the tteokbokki itself.

Final verdict on Yum Bbokki, a tteokbokki restaurant in Gojan-dong, Ansan

This time I tried the Silsog-i Yam Set 02 along with the sweet cheese fried potatoes. The ₩13,900 set included tteokbokki, fried snacks, a tuna rice ball, and fish cake soup, so it was a great way to sample several dishes at once.

The medium-spice tteokbokki was about as spicy as Shin Ramyun, starting off sweet before a mild spiciness built up toward the end. The fried snacks were crispy, and with the rice ball and fish cake soup rounding things out, the meal felt quite substantial. Most of all, having several menu options beyond tteokbokki made it a convenient visit with a child.

Next time, I'd like to try the rosé tteokbokki or jjajang (black bean sauce) tteokbokki, which I didn't get to this time. If you're looking for tteokbokki in Gojan-dong, Ansan, it might be worth checking the menu combos and spice levels before you visit. Had another delicious meal with my kid today :)
