A bowl of fresh salmon poke at Ola Poke Gangnam

Lately I've started paying a bit more attention to my diet, and suddenly I'm obsessed with healthy food, haha. Before, when I ate in Gangnam it was always 'what's something delicious to eat?' but these days when picking a menu it's more like 'should I try eating a bit healthier...?'

So this time I had plans near Gangnam Station and ended up eating lunch alone, and right in front of Gangnam Station there was Ola Poke Gangnam, so I tried the healthy fresh salmon poke! Ola Poke felt totally fine to eat solo, the ingredients were generous, and it was tastier than expected, so today I'm leaving my hands-on experience for anyone looking for poke and salad near Gangnam Station!

Ola Poke Gangnam, which I visited, was close to Exit 4 of Gangnam Station, so it wasn't hard to find. There are so many offices around Gangnam Station that a lot of people are also looking for solo dining spots at lunchtime, so the location itself was pretty great in that sense.

Overview of the seating inside Ola Poke Gangnam

When I visited it was well past lunchtime and right before break time, so the place was empty. That meant I could eat alone in a relaxed, quiet atmosphere, which was really nice haha. But I imagine there are more people looking for poke for lunch near Gangnam Station than you'd think, so it's probably packed during the lunch peak.

Solo seats, the self-serve zone and kiosk ordering at Ola Poke Gangnam

Inside Ola Poke Gangnam there are 2-person and 4-person tables, plus dedicated solo seats for people eating alone. The solo seats even have phone stands, so the layout felt comfortable for eating alone even during the Gangnam Station lunch peak.

I came alone that day, but since it was a late lunch I confidently sat at a spacious 4-person table, haha. But this place has plenty of solo seats with phone stands, so if you sit at a big table alone during peak hours it can feel a bit awkward or apologetic — sitting at a solo seat would probably feel much more comfortable!! So it seemed like a good spot for anyone looking for a solo dining place near Gangnam Station to visit without any pressure (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧

You order at the kiosk next to the door, and it had pictures of all the menu items, which made choosing easy. There was also a well-organized self-serve zone with utensils, water cups, hair ties, and mouthwash — you could really feel the owner's thoughtfulness there haha.

Fresh salmon poke for 13,500 won, customized to 30% rice and 70% salad

What I ordered at Ola Poke Gangnam was the fresh salmon poke for ₩13,500, with the recommended sauce. Since you can adjust the rice and vegetable ratio, I ordered mine at 30% rice, 70% salad.

Once I sat down and looked over the menu, there were way more types of poke than I expected! From original tuna sashimi poke to salmon, smoked duck, garlic shrimp, seafood, avocado, steak, even buldak (fire chicken) salmon and fried tofu... there were quite a lot of main topping options. I went with the fresh salmon poke since I was craving salmon.

You know how, when eating poke for dieting purposes, having a smaller amount of rice can actually be a plus? In that sense, it was great that Ola Poke Gangnam lets you customize the rice-to-vegetable ratio!

By the way, at Ola Poke you can customize your bowl, and if you're not sure which sauce to pick, there's a chart on the wall showing poke types paired with recommended sauces, so you can reference it for a good combination. There's also an ordering guide for first-time customers, so even newcomers shouldn't feel flustered while ordering!

What goes into the fresh salmon poke, and how is the sriracha mayo?

The fresh salmon poke I received at Ola Poke Gangnam contained rice, vegetables, seaweed, chickpeas, and onion flakes, making it filling as a single bowl. The recommended sauce was sriracha mayo, which was spicy, slightly sweet, and savory — a great match with the salmon.

When my order number finally popped up on the screen and I picked it up, my first thought was 'oh...? that's a lot!' The variety of ingredients packed in made it look pretty filling from just one bowl.

And above all, the salmon condition was great! I once had a bad experience with salmon poke elsewhere where the fishy smell was so strong I ended up eating around the salmon. So I can usually tell whether salmon is fresh just from its color, and here I could tell it was fresh salmon at first glance.

The sauce was sriracha mayo, and even the color looked delicious, haha. I took a small taste of the sauce alone first, and it was less overpowering than I expected, which I liked! After pouring about half of it on and giving it a good shake shake... it had the nice pop of multigrain rice's texture, and the salmon, vegetables, and chickpeas were all tasty, making it a poke of better quality than expected!! And the sriracha mayo was spicy, sweet, and savory all at once, pairing really well with the salmon.

Worth returning for poke and salad near Gangnam Station?

That day at Ola Poke Gangnam, I ate the fresh salmon poke and came away having had a generously filled, healthy meal with fresh salmon, better than expected, haha. Especially since you can adjust the rice-to-vegetable ratio, it was a customizable poke place near Gangnam Station that's great to eat at when you're being mindful about your diet.

Visiting alone was comfortable thanks to the solo seats, and being right in front of Exit 4 of Gangnam Station means it'll be an easy place to come back to whenever I want solo dining or poke for lunch near Gangnam Station. Next time I go, I want to try a different main topping for a different combination than this time!
